The Best Streets for Trick or Treat in 91ý

Visit the to find out which 91ý streets are going large for trick or treaters this year. Please make sure to only knock on houses displaying a Trick or Treaters welcome sign. Be respectful to those not wanting to participate.

Trick or Treat Etiquette – The scary seven

🎃 : Halloween is not compulsory. If you hate it, and you don’t want to participate that’s more than fine. Turn your front light off and post a friendly note on the door letting people know not to knock. Just don’t poo poo on the people who think it’s fun (like us)
We’ve made up some printable signs for you to put on the door. Click on the one you want to download and print at home.

🎃🎃: As above, please respect those houses not participating and please remember your manners!

🎃🎃🎃: Kids, please trick or treat in a group and take an adult or responsible person with you. It’s way more fun and way more safe! Don’t ever enter anyone’s house, even if invited and also please make sure you watch out for cars when crossing the road and stay on the footpath where possible.

🎃🎃🎃🎃: Let’s tone down the sex and turn up the scare for the costumes. Try and be an example for the kids, flash the peeling zombie skin coming off your face rather than boobs and bums!

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃: Offer wrapped lollies and chocolates. A bowl of unwrapped lollies with a thousand kiddy hands passing through it is a whole nightmare of it’s own.

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃: Go easy on the healthy “treats” It’s trick or TREAT not trick or sultana.

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃: Have fun! Don’t feel pressure to buy the most expensive costume – have fun making one at home

New in 2025 – “The Little Flower Hunt” lets kids take a guided wander with the Farm Manager and fill their own mason jar with as many blooms as they like. How cute!

Step into a sea of purple at Hahndorf this summer and enjoy a fragrant, hands-on experience at the Lavender Bloom Festival. Wander the fields, pick your own lavender, and soak up the sights and scents of the season, perfect for families!

Spend a full hour in a secluded area of the estate, experiencing its beauty without the crowds, and leave with stunning images expertly captured and beautifully edited in Tianie’s signature style.

Whether you’re updating family photos, celebrating a pregnancy or engagement, or showcasing your artistry through dance, cosplay, or performance, these sessions are designed to create unforgettable memories you’ll cherish forever.

Where: Hahndorf Lavender Estate

The farm will reopen in January 2026 for the next sunflower season, ready for another season of vibrant blooms and family fun.

Get the camera ready!

Spring certainly shows off its best colours, and Charleston Farm is the perfect place for families to dive into fields of fresh blooms.

Some of the flowers to expect include Ranunculus, Tulips, Anemones, Peonies, Larkspur, Delphinium, Chincherinchee, Stock, Poppies, Billy Buttons, Scabiosa, Feverfew, and Statice –  a colourful mix that’s perfect for picking and exploring with the whole family.

Mother Nature likes to keep everyone guessing so the PYO season dates aren’t announced too far in advance.

Bookings essential.

Kids and adults can enjoy the Summer Blooms (in smaller picking rows) while taking in the beautiful farm views.

A Picnic Spot in 91ý for every weekend in Spring /a-picnic-spot-for-every-weekend-in-spring/ /a-picnic-spot-for-every-weekend-in-spring/#respond Thu, 04 Sep 2025 23:19:00 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=28890

Goodbye Winter and hello Spring! Looking for the perfect picnic spot in 91ý? Whether you’re after a shady spot by water, a beachside escape, or a scenic park with plenty of space for the kids to run around, we’ve got you covered! And if you’re hunting for the perfect picnic rug or cute accessories to make your outing extra cosy, we’ve got that covered too!

91ý is home to some incredible picnic locations, from hidden gems to family-favourite parks with playgrounds, BBQ facilities, and stunning views. With so many beautiful places to choose from, why not plan a new picnic adventure every weekend this spring?

We’ve asked around the Kids in 91ý team for our favourite picnic spots and have come up with a heap of beautiful places to enjoy springtime picnics with the family.

So, get your kite, your rug and start re-acquainting yourselves with the sunshine.

Jack Watkins Reserve

Jack Watkins Reserve – the brand-new playspace at Kilburn is set to be a hit with families as the weather warms up.

We love the ample grassy areas, perfect for picnics, while the kids enjoy the playground.

Top tip: walk over to Kenny’s across the road near Costco and grab some hot chips to enjoy on your picnic!

Picnic amongst the flowers

91ý has some gorgeous flower farms that are more than just pretty to look at – they’re the perfect spot for a picnic.

With wide open spaces, colourful fields and plenty of fresh country air, you can spread out a rug, enjoy some food and take in the view. It’s a simple, relaxing way to spend the day surrounded by nature.

Botanic Gardens, North Terrace

You know the Botanic Gardens – who doesn’t? But when was the last time you visited another world within 91ý and just soaked in the amazing oasis in the heart of the city. Shady spots are everywhere including lots of open space for fun play.
*Tip- Bring a soccer ball or scooter, there’s heaps of room.

Barossa Valley Chocolate Company

For a spring picnic with a difference, roll out your rug at the Barossa Outdoor Cinema. Set lakeside at the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company and framed by vineyards, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a movie night under the stars.

Grab a pizza from Benni’s of Barossa and enjoy plenty of family-friendly films throughout the school holidays and beyond – a fun outing for all ages.

Henley Square

We love eating tea on the beach (take away or packed picnic) because we can take the dog, the kids can be loud, run around, watch the sunset, get takeaway beers from the Henley Hotel (that is the actual only reason). There is a toilet block and a deck you can sit on if you don’t actually want to go on the beach and get sandy OR you can back your car in and sit in the boot. Something about all of that fresh salty air just makes us all happy.

Carrick Hill

Take a step back in time… Carrick Hill is fortunate enough to be one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and grounds undiminished.
Discover all kinds of wonderful places to have a picnic at Carrick Hill – choose from the stable lawns, story book trail and more designated spots.

Elder Park

Move over Central Park – we have Elder Park ! Where else can you get a beautiful river, paddle boats, a popeye, bridge and a zoo not too far away! This park is a great spot for an adventure to the city on the train and back!

Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens

Spring is a magnificent seasons to visit, with stunning mass displays of magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and roses adding a splash of colour to the gardens.  A picnic lunch by the lakeside after an invigorating walk is just the thing for an enjoyable outing with family and friends.

*Tip – bring some walking shoes for the steep tracks

Market Square Reserve, Old Noarlunga

Market Square Reserve overlooks a bend in the Onkaparinga River, complete with undulating hills, river gums and rich native bird life. There is a playground, electric barbecues, shade, tables and lots of open space for children to run around. Grab the picnic rug and the balls to kick around and head to Market Square in Old Noarlunga! You’ll also find a great little cafe across the road.

Melbas Chocolate Factory Barossa Valley

Grab an icecream and enjoy the lawns of Melba’s at Angaston complete with tables, umbrellas and even lawn games to enjoy. Probably the most delicious spot for a picnic in 91ý

More info here

Steamroller Park, Stirling

Fully fenced playground with climbable steam train, toddler area, rotunda, BBQs, toilets and a beautiful grassy spot begging for a picnic rug. You don’t even need to pack any food with plenty of cafes, shops and even a chocolate shop nearby to grab your goodies.

Tusmore Park, Burnside

Hello all in one park! Playground, Pool and top Picnic Spot. This park also offers the convenience of toilets and barbecues.

Bonython Park (Tulya Wardii)

Bonython Park is for everyone! Including the furry family members! It is home to the all access playground, providing play areas for everyone. You can relax while watching the remote controlled model boats sailing across the pond or take advantage of the large grassed areas for some sunshine fun… did we mention too you can feed the horses at the stables and take the bike to the SAPOL Road Safety Centre

*Tip – bring  oats or sultanas for feeding the ducks because you cannot forget to feed the ducks while stopping by their home.

Belair National Park

Put this place on your spring bucket list if you have not visited Belair National Park as yet. There are woodlands, waterfalls, lakes, creeks and a playground ! A family picnic at Long Gully is a great spot to select and venture to the cave-like Amphitheatre Rock or Playford Lake and Karka are other great spots.

Morialta Conservation Park, Morialta Falls Rd, Woodforde

For the more adventurous picnickers, Morialta Conservation Park allows you to combine hiking, birdwatching and even rock-climbing with a packed lunch.

There is a picnic area as well as an extensive network of walking trails used to view three waterfalls along Fourth Creek and the playground is right up there with the best. Any one for tadpole catching? Bring rubber boots or a change of clothes if your kids like water.

Willunga Rose Garden, Willunga

This nature play space is located adjacent to the existing Willunga Rose Garden playground. With picnic tables, shade, benches, BBQ, and toilet facilities it’s a great new spot for a picnic and a play. We are pleased to see this fabulous new playground open ready for laughs, smiles and lots of nautre play fun

Mitcham Reserve

Lots of space, beautiful big trees, a great new playground, creek to explore, BBQs, toilets and plenty of parking make Mitcham Reserve a great option for a picnic not too far out of the city.

Byethorne Park, Nairne

This park features a lovely duck filled lake in the centre. Make sure you know the rules about feeding ducks though. There’s a new adventure/nature playground and has a covered BBQ area that is close by, so the kids can play while you cook. Its a beautiful spot for a BBQ, picnic or just a new spot to take the kids for a good run around in the park. Fab wide open spaces and lots of fresh air, which the hills is so good for! Well worth the drive.

Family Bushwalking Adventures in 91ý /our-favourite-family-bushwalking-adventures-in-adelaide/ /our-favourite-family-bushwalking-adventures-in-adelaide/#respond Sat, 15 Mar 2025 21:28:49 +0000 /?p=49429 Hiking with kids can be a bit hit & miss, can’t it? Will you take a wrong turn & end up miles away from where the car is parked? Will your toddler find a stick that they INSIST on carrying the whole way? Will that “short stroll” turn into a 9 hour epic adventure? Will your teenager complain the entire time that their legs are hurting? (Yes.) We’ve done the kms for you & walked ahead to find the best family friendly bushwalks & hikes around 91ý. We’re betting there are some in this list you have never even heard of! Pack the snacks, slap on the suncream & get hiking, families of 91ý!

Mount Osmond Reserve

Located around Glen Osmond, the series of trails provides you with spectacular views of the city.

Parking is a bit of an issue (Mount Osmond Road is your best bet) and we know a little sneaky spot you’ll find
With walks suitable for families of all ages with our walk on the central track taking about 20 minutes (we would class it as easy-medium in difficulty), this is an absolute fave it’s definitely worth spending the time to find a carpark. Be mindful of the blindspots on the road in this area as it’s narrow. However there is a walking path alongside the golf course which stretches up to 1km from that car park if you do park on road side. This path connects to the main pathway.

Sadly it wasn’t pram friendly, but being centrally located and with a selection of great walking tracks, put this one on the list.

For all the info on the tracks at Mount Osmond, find out more .

Granite Island Loop

Victor has it all for families, but one of our favourite ‘must-do’ activities with the kids is the Granite Island loop walk. Incredible scenery and a relatively short 45 min loop is achievable for kids of all ages. Shave a bit of walking time off with a ride on the horse drawn tram and you can also grab a post walk treat at the island kiosk.

Carrick Hill/ Waite Conservation Park

Snuggled in behind Carrick Hill, lies a sneaky hidden gem of a walking track that offers some simply stunning views of our city, but without having to deal with all of the people (looking at you Mt Lofty). A 2-3 hour circuit covering a nudge over 4km, this moderate loop will be easily achieved by the whole fam. Some amazing rest stops along the way to marvel at the views, see if you can find the tree swing!

Marion Coastal Walkway and Suspension Bridges

A long time fave of the KiA crew and hugely popular down south with the locals. Recently saved with much needed Government funds to help with maintenance, it would have been a tragedy had it been lost. With the newly opened multi-million dollar dual suspension bridges, the walk is now even more spectacular. The views are incredible and you can stop and head down the stairs to the beach to explore the small sea creatures and ancient rock faces when you need a break.

Park at Hallett Cove (plenty of parking and a fantastic cafe to inspire to you on the way back) and start your trek. The area is rich with natural geological history (a good excuse to rest I find, to stop and read the information signs) so you can combine family exercise with learning! Something the kids will surely appreciate…or not. The boardwalk follows the cliff tops or (as above in the pic), pop down to the rocky coast below and explore. Absolutely fantastic to take kids of all ages this one.

The entire trail is about 7km from Hallett Cove to Marino, with the boardwalk comprising of a few km of that from the Hallett Cove end. Personally a trek to the end of the boardwalk and back to Hallett Cove is usually enough for most kids. Be sure to check out the beautiful Sugarloaf and Amphitheatre, incredible geological formations along the way.

More info here

Morialta Conservation Park

An absolute must for a list like this, and for me, it is my fave. Located only 20 odd minutes from the CBD, what I love about Morialta is not only the incredible scenery, waterfalls and rock formations, but the variety. The different hiking trails, which are really well sign posted if you are inclined to take a wrong turn like me, give you the option to spin around the valley floor on a quick and easy 45 minute trek or you can challenge yourself with a 4 hour epic around the whole region. Some of the trails do take in some pretty awe inspiring heights, but the falls valley floor walk is a ripper if you are after flat scenic walks with the younger hikers. Plenty of adventurous families tackle all of the different trails so be sure to explore, explore, explore.

For info on all the amazing walks at Morialta, click !

Onkaparinga River National Park

Heading down south next, with the fabulous Onkaparinga River National Park, which if my personal social media feeds have been anything to go by, has been veeeeerrrrrry busy in recent years. It is easy to see why though! With so many hikes to choose from, which have easy to read (and find!) signs along the way, you will find something to suit the whole fam here. Hikes range from about an hour right up to hard 4hr expeditions, so go for a stroll or challenge yourself. The park also offers incredible views over the various gorges (you can rock climb too if you feel like climbing up a perfectly good cliff).

With your at the ready, prepare to check out the stunning views and kids of all ages are guaranteed to have a ball*

*not a real guarantee

Punch Bowl Lookout

While we’re talking about the Onkaparinga River National Park, make sure you check out the Punch Bowl Lookout. It’s a firm favourite with the KiA team – at 2km return it makes the journey worth your while.

It’s pram friendly with just a few steep bits – the views are worth it though!

Mannum Waterfalls

We love this spot, but a heads up, it’s not pram friendly! Here’s what Walking SA has to say:

“A scenic walking trail following Reedy Creek from the lower pools to the waterfalls.

An adventure playground for people of all ages – it’s easily navigable to walk rock-hop along the creek gully, exploring the many granite rocks, pools and waterfalls. An abundance of birdlife and wildlife can be found. The falls flow during winter and spring, and after rains.

Park at either the lower or upper carpark. We recommend parking at the lower carpark and following the walking trail along the creek, and turning around near the upper carpark. Remember to bring plenty of drinking water. The toilets are 150 metres from the lower carpark. The first pools are 250 metres from the lower carpark. The first waterfalls are 1 kilometre from the lower carpark.”

Deep Creek Conservation Park

Goondooloo ridge walk in deep creek conservation park is a 4km return walk that will take you around two hours to complete easy for little legs and prams, lots of kangaroos and wildlife to spot along the way.
At the end of the track you’ll find picnic tables looking over the picturesque backstairs passage hello over there kangaroo island!
There’s brand new drop toilets located at the start of the track along with parking and picnic tables, keep in mind this is in the conversation park so you will need to pay a fee to enter ($12 per vehicle) which we recommend you do so before heading on your way as there is no signal in the area.
The pass will get you full access to the entire park so make the most of it and plan out a full day as there’s lots to see and do!

Kuipto Forest

Kuitpo Forest, about a 45 minute drive from 91ý, is a really big place. So much so that of all the hikes listed in this national park, I couldn’t even find any reference to my favourite (and a huge fave for locals too). Bone Gully Forest off Dashwood Gully Road has always been my go-to for a Kuitpo hike with the fam. The incredible lush forest scenery and short distance (albeit it is a bit up hill….which just means it is downhill on the way back to the car) makes it perfect for a family day out. But the beauty of such a place like Kuitpo, is everyone has a fave part. You won’t find the huge mountain gorges like you will at other hikes, which may be perfect for you! Also a fave with mountain bikers and horse trail riders

Hope Valley Reservoir

Opened to the public in 2020 Hope Valley Reservior is S.A’s first metropolitan reservoir to open to the public and a great place for kids to explore.
Shared use trail mostly on the western side near the dam wall. A full loop is just over 5km and make sure you stop at the new nature playground for a climb

Glenthorne National Park

Home now to one of our best adventure playgrounds, the national park also includes a 4km trail loop that starts just off Majors Road at the Ranger Station.

Belair National Park

An old fave but remains a fantastic natural space within minutes of the city at Belair. Plenty of areas to start your bushwalking adventure inclduing the Playford Lake along the Wood Duck Walk (1km trail) or hit up the famous adventure playground which is right along the Lorikeet Loop Trail (3km).

Myponga Reservoir

The 3.3km (approx.) loop track on the south east side of the reservoir takes you through open plains, forested areas and native vegetation. The unsealed trail is suitable for walking and running and is short and sweet for little feet. There are little “ look out “ parts off the loop you can add or you can stick to the loop and keep it short and fun! There is a toilet on the track, reat places to sit rest and enjoy the view, picnic tables and SO MUCH NATURE to explore and investigate. Moss, mud, pinecones, birds, kangaroos and more.

Lobethal Bushland Park

Lobethal Bushland Park comprises 118 hectares of varied terrain of gentle slopes and running creeks. There are 5 mapped trails to choose from starting at an easy/moderate loop around around the Reservoir South right up to the Purple Moderate/Difficult trail that you’ll need at least 2 hours to get around. Main access to the Park is via a gate at the southern end of the reserve adjacent to Reservoir South, and a gate on Kenton Valley Road on the eastern boundary.

Brownhill Creek Recreation Park

Another ‘blink and you miss it’ beauty this one….Just sort of drive to Mitcham and turn left. Then bam, couple of minutes later and you get views like this. With 300 year old river red gums lining the valley, there are several hikes listed here which might take your fancy. We are blessed to have such incredible access to areas such as this, so close to the city. If you are feeling adventurous, the 4 hour hike looping for 13km around Brownhill Creek to Belair will surely tire out even the fittest kids.

Ingalla Waterfall

You’ll find this one on the Fleurieu off of Hay Flat Road. It’s semi-pram friendly – which in KiA language means you might need to do some heavy pushing or the pram itself might get a bit dirty. Consider yourself warned! The track itself is only 500m return making it perfect for little legs.

It’s lovely to see the flowing waterfall however and next door is a gorgeous forest with mushrooms out of a fairytale. (Do.not.eat.them)

Newland Head Conservation Park

Another Fleurieu favourite, just near Waitpinga Beach at Victor Harbor. This one is not pram friendly & is probably more suited to older kids or kids who asre used to hiking.

It’s called the Coastal Cliff Walking Trail for a reaon & you’ll be rewarded with stunning ocean views!

Mount Lofty Summit

Unless you are one of those really fit families who have protein shakes for breakfast before heading off to a 5:30am F45 class, this one is a toughie. Not really for the little kids but your tweens should handle it relatively well….probably better than most parents if we are honest. But totally worth it for the view….and the coffee at the lookout! Parking can be a nightmare, as half of 91ý make the trek here most weekends, so pick your day wisely (or tip for young players…park at the top where parking is aplenty and walk it in reverse). Currently there are restoration works taking place which may alter your trail depending on when you decide to go. Click  for all the latest info from Parks SA. image credit Stacey Lee

Shepherds Hill Recreation Park

Another of our ‘you may have driven past this a hundred times but never knew it was there’ spots, this is really popular with locals for the great hiking tracks and fantastic mountain biking areas. With a number of really well signed tracks offering something for all ages and abilities, this is so close to home (enter off Fiveash Drive Pasadena) and you will instantly feel like you have been transported a million miles from anywhere.

Victor Harbor Heritage Trail

Look I am going to be honest here, this place is windy. Like all of the time. In 30 odd years travelling to this spot, I don’t ever recall it not blowing a gale, but if you want to see the beauty of the full force of the Southern Ocean smashing into a coastline, then putting up with some wind is well worth it. The Bluff is an obvious and famous landmark at Victor Harbor, but it is also a great starting point for the Victor Harbor Heritage Trail, a sensational 2 hour hike along some of the best coastline in our state. With shipwrecks, beach walks and stunning ocean views, it is easy to see why this is a fave. If the 2 hour hike is a bit out of the reach of your fam, why not try the walk up and down The Bluff? At only about half an hour return (and it isn’t really that steep for that long) your kids should make the top with the promise of a great view of Victor (or an ice cream. You may need to promise an ice cream). If any of the above hikes don’t take your fancy, there is always a lap around Granite Island!

Mount George Conservation Park

The Mt George bush walk took us about 1.5hrs from carpark return but the path is a bit tricky though. It is easy to miss the turn off to the summit too so be careful! The 2.4km loop trail to the summit of Mount George is a great walking trail with kids. The trail follows fire tracks and walking trails on a slow incline to the summit of Mount George. A highlight is a stop at a rocky outcrop near the top with magnificent views over Bridgewater to Mount Lofty. The trail is marked with pine posts and blue arrows, but its not clearly marked at the start or along the way sometimes. We recommend following the map closely to get started. The trails are well maintained and easy to follow. You can’t really get too lost anyway as side tracks lead to the 2-metre high electric fence with its 2-metre high locked gates – the only entrance and exit from the trail is at the shed near the main picnic area at the end of Mount George Road. The walk takes you through a Stringybark native forest and a great preservation of historic native vegetation.

Happy Valley Reservoir

With almost 20km of trails, perfect for mixed uses including running, mountain biking, hiking (lots of it is pram friendly too!), this is a really exciting community space for the south.
Choose from a range of well signed tracks, from 2km loops all the way up to the 11km Shoreline Loop

Para Wirra Conservation Park

One for the northerners, with the very popular Para Wirra Conservation Park. Only 45 minutes from the CBD, there are so many fantastic hikes to choose from depending on your level of ability and enthusiasm. With hikes from 30 minutes to 4 hours, you can either take the kids to see the beautiful lake or take them up on the lizard rock hike. The choice is yours.

Anstey Hill Recreation Park

If you’re looking for a great family bushwalk in the Northern suburbs one of our favourites is Anstey Hill Recreation Park. There’s an extensive network of walking trails here so you can choose the one that suits your group. We love the abundant birds and wildlife here and if you visit in Spring you’ll love the wildflowers that pop up all over the place.

Little Quarry Loop is pram friendly on a gravel path. Parking on site too – such a bonus.

Woorabinda Bushland Reserve

Updated in 2024 to add a fantastic pram friendly boardwalk, Woorabinda Bushland Reserve up at Stirling includes a beautioful loop around the lake, or for a longer walk complete the full bushland loop at 5.4km.

Cobbler Creek Recreation Park

Home to the fabulous Kites and Kestrels playground, there are also 5 great walks here including teh Valley Circuit (4km) and the shorter Mai Tappa Circuit (2.4km). A fantastic natural space to explore with the family north of 91ý.

91ý in Spring – Put these on your to do list /adelaide-in-spring/ /adelaide-in-spring/#respond Wed, 09 Aug 2023 03:45:40 +0000 /?p=67785 Pull the shorts out of the cupboard, stock up on suncream & put the umbrellas away – SPRING IS HERE!! (Ok, maybe don’t put the umbrellas away just yet, cause you know, 91ý. ) But the days are definitely getting longer & warmer so it’s time to come out of hibernation. If your kids have spent the winter months watching waaaaaay too much YouTube, I have some great spots for you to visit in Spring. Not just anywhere, but places that are extra special in springtime….think flowers blooming, baby animals….read on!

Did you say pic-a-nic?

That’s right Yogi Bear, we did! Cause picnics and Spring just go together don’t they? Grab your picnic rug, pack some snacks and find a favourite park, playground or national park to explore – once the kids have burnt some energy, open up the picnic and enjoy the serenity (and hopefully not too many ants).

We even wrote a whole list of our favourite picnic places to visit in Spring.

Prospect Spring Fair

The Prospect Spring Fair 2025 is a great family day out in spring.

With the Dachshund Mini Dash, rides, live music, and flyball dog races, there’s plenty to enjoy. Kids will love the petting zoo and face painting, while parents can browse the market and food stalls.

It’s a FREE event at Broadview Oval, making it a perfect way to spend a spring Saturday together in October.

find the event info here

Springlake, Mount Barker

With sights like these, Springlake is definitely one of the top spots we’ll be taking the kids during Spring. And it even has “Spring” in the name, which must mean we are all contractually obliged to visit between September & November, right? But seriously, look at the flowers. And ducks!

Springlake Nature Playground is right next door too, along with BLVD Cafe, so it ticks all my boxes.

Carrickalinga Esplanade Walking Trail

I mean does anything get any more spring than these photos taken at Carrickalinga Walking Trail. The path is a 5km return trip with beautiful views of the ocean and colourful flowers in spring. Pram friendly too, if you don’t mind a few bumps along the way. Enter via the carpark on Gold Coast Drive then follow the trail around.

Nature Festival

Nature Festival returns to South Australia from 26 September – 12 October 2025, bringing the state to life with more than 400 events and experiences.

From nature walks and bird watching to exhibitions, talks, workshops, and even poetry, the festival is all about celebrating our love of the natural world.

With this year’s theme “Flow”, it’s the perfect way to slow down, connect with nature, and make the most of spring in SA.

91ý’s Best Icecreams

91ý has had some big entrants to the ice cream scene in the last twelve months, honestly, and we felt it was our duty to collate (and personally check out) the best spots to enjoy a delicious scoop, be it ice cream, gelati, gelato, frozen yoghurt or even an acai treat with the kids! Whether you’re into classic scoops and flavours like vanilla, chocolate or mint chocolate chip, or like something a bit fancy like peach and white chocolate (yes we recently found that) we’ve done the hard work for you and found the best spots to visit.

Find the list here

Wisteria Tunnel, 91ý Botanic Gardens

There are very few places you can get so close to wisteria as stunning as this, except of course in the 91ý Botanic Gardens. Pack a picnic, wander around the gardens (more ducks!) & breathe in the scent of this beautiful springtime bloom. The Botanic Gardens aren’t just beautiful in Spring, they are also a wealth of information & education for kids on horticulture. Of course, it makes for some perfect Instagram shots too!

Make sure you also stop for lunch or a coffee at Evergreen Deli in the Gardens too!

(Note – the 91ý Botanic Gardens have advised that the wisteria has had a big prune in 2024, so they aren’t sure exactly how much it will bloom compared to previous years, but we think it will be stunning anyway!)

Find more 91ý Botanic Garden info here.

Kid Friendly Wineries

We are lucky to have so many great wine regions here in South Australia and so many of the cellar doors are family friendly! Grab a glass of wine and a meal or local produce platter and relax in the sun while the kids play.

We’re talking giant games, tasting plates for the kids, playgrounds and even a chance to feed and pat some native animals like at Woodstock Winery in McLaren Vale!

Click here for our list of the best family friendly wineries in SA.

Visit Monarto Safari Park

Another spot that is perfect when it’s ‘not too hot, not too cold’ is Monarto Safari Park.

Enjoy all of the animals via the buses that take you through each exhibit or via the viewing platforms. You’ll see giraffes, tigers, lions, chimps and more – if you are lucky some of the baby animals might also be out on exhibit!

The Visitor Centre also has a great cafe, gift shops and playground to start or finish your visit.

Head to Woodhouse Adventure Park

Not too hot, not too cold – that’s the ideal weather to head to the Hills & spend the day at Woodhouse Adventure Park.

The kids will love having a go at Challenge Hill – if it can be climbed on, crawled under, jumped from or balanced on, you’ll find it there! On the weekends their famous tube slides are also open – wheeeee!

If you are looking for a family getaway, they also offer camping!

Click here to find out more.

Visit the Spring Babies at Hahndorf Farm Barn

We all know that Spring means cute baby animals, so look no further than the Hahndorf Farm Barn for your fix of fluff & cuddles. We’re talking chicks, bunnies, ducklings, lambs, guinea pigs & more. Squeee! They also run pony rides, a milking show & feeding activities as well as having the playground, sandpit & BBQ onsite.

The Farm Barn can be really hot in the middle of Summer, so be sure to check it out during Spring while the weather is just right!

Click here for all the info.

Canola Crops, Regional SA

Move over Coldplay, this is the only Yellow we’ll be needing this Spring. If you are travelling around regional SA during the school holidays (especially the South-East, around Callington or Yorke Peninsula) be sure to point out these stunning crops to the kids. A great conversation starter about agriculture! Please make sure you don’t go crawling or walking through the crops however….that’s a big no no unless you have permission.

Carrick Hill, Springfield

Another spot with ‘Spring’ the name (well, the suburb), so that means you HAVE to go! Honestly though, if you haven’t been here yet, you do HAVE to go! The sprawling gardens has stunning views of the city with plants, trees and flowers of every shape, size & colour. What we love best though is the Storybook Trail which features sculptures, statues & buildings from some of the most loved books. You could easily spend a whole day here exploring the house, gardens & trail. And did we mention there is a café onsite?

TreeClimb 91ý & Kuitpo

Spring is the perfect time for a treetop adventure! Head to either TreeClimb 91ý or TreeClimb Kuitpo to take on either the Kids Course or Grand Course (depending on heights) or at Kuitpo you can also have a play in the Nets Adventure!

Both locations have an onsite cafe – it’s the perfect spot to soak up the sun and get active (or just watch other people getting active!).

Take the kids fishing

Here are some great spots within an hour or so of 91ý that are easily accessibly to take the kids fishing (no boat required), and a few tips thrown in to ensure your success.

Trucks On Tour

Get up close with trucks, diggers, and more at Trucks on Tour, a FREE school holiday event on Friday 10 October 2025 at Wilfred Taylor Reserve, Morphett Vale.

Kids can climb into vehicles, watch exciting demonstrations, and enjoy a quieter sensory hour from 1–2pm. With a BBQ and food trucks on site, it’s a hands-on, fun-filled day for the whole family!

check it out here

For something a bit different, book a kayaking tour with Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak Tours.

You’ll explore mangroves, shipwrecks and hopefully see some dolphins frolicking nearby.

Head away to an SA Region

South Australia is home to some gorgeous tourism regions and Spring is the perfect time to go exploring.

Book a getaway for the October Long Weekend or during the October School Holidays. Will you head to Yorke Peninsula? The Riverland? Or maybe explore the stunning Fleurieu. Wherever you choose, we have some great ideas of where to stay and what to do while you are there.

Click here for our SA Regional Guides.

The AFLW season starts in Spring – head along to a game and cheer on your favourite team!

Whether you love the Crows, the Power or an interstate team, AFLW games are always a great day out with plenty of fun activities for the kids to take part in.
