Roonka River Adventure Park /roonka-river-adventure-park/ /roonka-river-adventure-park/#respond Thu, 27 Nov 2025 11:36:18 +0000 /?p=117732 is a hidden Riverland gem where adventure meets nature. Owned and run by Scouts SA for over 50 years, it has long been a favourite for school camps, Scouts, and groups. Now families are discovering just how much fun you can have here. Just over an hour and 40 minutes north-east of 91ý, and nestled on a peaceful stretch of the Murray River near Blanchetown, Roonka is all about outdoor adventures, water fun, and reconnecting with the people you love.

Roonka Adventure Park has a place for everyone. Traditional campers can pitch a tent under the stars, families can enjoy a comfy stay in the two-bedroom Lodge, and big groups can take over the bunkhouse rooms or even the whole site for a weekend of adventure. There are powered and unpowered sites for caravans and motorhomes, glamping bell tents set up and ready to go, and cozy bunkhouse rooms perfect for school groups, sports teams, or extended families. No matter where you stay, you will have access to camp kitchens, BBQs, hot showers, and all the facilities you need, plus the billabong, trails, and outdoor fun right on your doorstep. Adventure, comfort, and nature tick all the boxes.

We stayed in the Lodge, a gorgeous two-bedroom retreat that sleeps six. The master bedroom is calm and spacious, with reverse-cycle air conditioning, modern furnishings, a walk-in robe, and two single beds that can be pushed together. The second bedroom features two bunk beds, perfect for kids or teens. The bathroom is bright and modern, and the fully equipped kitchen makes meal prep a breeze. The open-plan living and dining area is ideal for family dinners or games night, with comfy couches, a flat-screen TV, and large windows that bring the outdoors in.

The Lodge’s expansive deck quickly became our favourite spot, whether we were sipping morning coffee, enjoying evening drinks, or just soaking up the view as the campsite came alive. As night falls, the stillness of the river, the calls of kookaburras, and star-filled skies make it impossible not to unwind.

An obvious highlight, especially in summer, is the water activities. The calm billabong at Roonka is perfect for kids learning to kayak or canoe. We really valued how safe it felt, making it ideal for younger kids and beginners. The gentle waters let them try new skills while feeling completely at ease. Life jackets and all the hire gear are ready to go, so you can focus on the important stuff, like having fun!

Speaking of fun, the riverslide is Fun with a capital F and great for the whole family. You have to try it at least once, no matter your age. Just do it! The double flying fox, zipping from one side of the billabong to the other, is a guaranteed hit. I’ll give you 100 dollars if your kids don’t purposely fall off, haha. And if you want to slow the pace a little, there are kayaks and canoes for hire from the boat shed which you can use to explore the peaceful backwaters of the Murray River. Three weeks later, we are still debating which was the favourite… kayaks, riverslide, or flying fox, and honestly, it is a debate that is not going away anytime soon.

Roonka is not just about getting wet. We spent a good hour at the playground with a picnic lunch, and the kids loved every minute. The Echidna Trail totally surprised us; they were glued to it, spotting birds and plants, and unfortunately no echidnas, which would have absolutely made my year. Next time, fingers crossed!

For a bit of adventure, the bouldering wall is perfect for budding rock climbers and adventurous spirits, while GAGA Ball adds fast-paced, high-energy fun for everyone. Orienteering and the Photo Hunt get the kids exploring the property using basic map-reading skills, spotting markers, and matching photos along the way. Wildlife is everywhere, and it is honestly one of the best bits. We saw so many kangaroos, and the walking trails are easy enough for little legs but still fun for bigger kids and adults. There is heaps of space to wander, explore, or just sit and enjoy the quiet, making it a brilliant mix of challenges, teamwork, and just plain fun.

Sometimes the simplest moments are the best. Watching the kids try something new, listening to the sounds of the river, or just soaking in the calm are memories that stick. Even when it is not summer, there is always something to do, see, or explore. iPads…? What’s an iPad?

House Down Under 91ý /house-down-under-adelaide/ /house-down-under-adelaide/#respond Thu, 26 Jun 2025 03:30:21 +0000 /?p=179443 Get ready to flip your perspective, 91ý. The House Down Under has landed at Churchill Centre in Kilburn and we have just been to visit. It’s about to turn your world (and your photos) upside down – literally!

Just in time for the July school holidays, this topsy-turvy experience is perfect for kids, teens, parents and anyone with a camera roll begging for something a little different. Step inside a fully inverted house, where everything from the toilet to the kitchen sink is on the ceiling. It’s like stepping into a real-life optical illusion.

You’ll wander through upside-down bedrooms, a flipped kitchen, a very questionable bathroom situation, and plenty more unexpected spaces – all designed to make your photos pop and your kids giggle. The best part? There’s no time limit, so you can strike all the poses you like without feeling rushed. And if you’re feeling a little creatively stuck, the friendly team are always nearby with pose ideas and photo tips.

Tickets start at $19 per person (with under 4s free), or grab a group of three or more and pay just $17 each. It’s affordable fun for the whole family – especially if you’re chasing a unique indoor activity these school holidays.

If you are prone to vertigo or sometimes feel claustrophobic, its initially a bit of a weird feeling in this little house. It is a small space and you’ll share your session with up to 25 others. Booking an off peak time of day or day of week would definitely be the best bet

TreeClimb Salisbury, Harry Bowey Reserve /treeclimb-harry-bowey-reserve-salisbury-park/ /treeclimb-harry-bowey-reserve-salisbury-park/#respond Sun, 22 Dec 2024 05:52:11 +0000 /?p=136248 TreeClimb Salisbury is set to open to the public at the start of 2025!

Northern residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy the high ropes challenges, ziplines and adventure courses in Harry Bowey Reserve, Salisbury Park. This new TreeClimb location will be a fantastic addition to the TreeClimb Kuitpo Forest and TreeClimb 91ý City courses and we’re calling it the most family-friendly venue, featuring a dedicated course that allows parents and children to climb together as well as plenty of parking, picnic areas and a playground so those who aren’t quite tall enough to climb yet (you need to be 100cms or taller for the kids course) can still have a play while older siblings climb.

Here’s what you can expect:

OVER 1km’s of Ziplines!

Get ready for the ultimate family adventure! Climb, zip, and conquer some of South Australia’s longest and highest treetop challenges! Soar through over 1km of epic ziplines, including FOUR that are over 150 meters long!! Bring the fam, bring the fun, and experience the treetops like never before!

TreeClimb Salisbury Grand Course

The Salisbury Grand Course features 62 obstacles spread across 4 exciting levels, perfect for thrill-seekers and adventurous spirits of all abilities. You’ll have up to 2 hours to climb, including a safety induction, with the freedom to challenge yourself at your own pace.
Please note: Completing all 4 levels in 2 hours is not guaranteed, but you have 2 hours to tackle as much as you can!

TreeClimb Salisbury Kids Course

The Salisbury Kid’s Course offers 16 fun-filled obstacles across 2 thrilling levels, giving young climbers an exciting challenge! Parents and carers can stay engaged by coaching from the ground, as adults are not permitted to climb the Kid’s Course. Enjoy up to 80 minutes of climbing, including a safety induction, as your little adventurers explore at their own pace

TreeClimb Salisbury Family Experience

Adults can now climb with their little ones TOGETHER!

So who is it for?
The Family Experience has been designed for the children who have completed the Kids Course and are ready for a new challenge BUT aren’t quite tall enough for the Grand Course yet.
This ticket allows them to give the Grand Course a go, while also creating memories with their biggest supporters.

Children must be at least 125cm and they must be accompanied in the trees by a confident climber 18 years or older!

The Family Experience is NOT a discounted ticket. It is the combined cost of a General Admission and Student Admission ticket. This ticket simply provides a child between 125cm – 135cm the opportunity to climb the Grand Course with the assistance of an accompanied adult.

Some helpful info about TreeClimb Salisbury:

Closed-toe shoes that won’t come off and gloves are mandatory on the Grand Course.

Ensure you check in 15 minutes prior to your session. Due to required safety training, if you arrive late, they may not be able to accommodate you.

If you have a companion card you still need to book, please contact the team to create your booking so they can assist you with a companion discount. They strongly recommend booking Monday – Friday where possible to avoid our busy times.

Top things to do with Teens and Tweens in 91ý /top-10-things-to-do-with-teenagers-in-adelaide/ /top-10-things-to-do-with-teenagers-in-adelaide/#respond Tue, 20 Aug 2024 02:07:03 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=7682 As we all know, teens and tweens are in that tough spot of wanting to grow up and be adults but also (sometimes secretly) wanting to embrace what is left of their childhood. It can be hard finding activities that they actually WANT to do and aren’t too cool for, right?!

When you’re looking for activities to do with your tweens and teens, you probably want to make sure they tick three key boxes:

  • They aren’t too expensive (so they can bring a friend perhaps)
  • Keep them mentally or physically active (so you can avoid the dreaded, “I’m bored. This sucks.”)
  • Something that is supervised, but where you could still allow them their “independence” while keeping an eye on them!

Here’s our pick of the best things to do with teens in 91ý

  1. Rockclimbing. Indoor or outdoor and for all ages and abilities – find a place to climb here
  2. Go Karting – start your engines and go for a few hot laps – 91ý’s best go karting venues are here
  3. Drop them off for frozen yoghurt or an acai bowl – we love Acai Affair
  4. Treeclimb 91ý, Salisbury or Kuitpo Forest
  5. Go on a hike or send them mountain biking
  6. Woodhouse Adventure Park
  7. Escape Room challenges at Fox in a Box
  8. Take them shopping
  9. Go see a game at 91ý Oval
  10. Hanging out at Glenelg
  11. Take them for a round of two of Mini Golf

Read on to find out why we love all of these spots for our independence loving teens and tweens!

Bush Walk or Mountain Bike

We have it on good authority (from our teen/tween children) that catching the train to Belair and mountain biking around Blackwood is quite popular with the kids, so if you have a biking fanatic, this is a great option!

Alternatively there are so many amazing bushwalking and hiking trails in 91ý that would make a fantastic day out. Whether they want to go as a family or head out with friends, there are plenty of options for them to choose from.

Take them Mini Golfing

Make the most of that teenage competitive nature by taking them for a round of mini golf. Let them bring along some friends and spend a few hours coming together in friendly competition.

The whacky courses make it perfect for all ages, so you can go as a family or let the teens do their thing, but it’s guaranteed that everyone will love it!

Take them for a day at Glenelg

Jump on the tram and spend the day at The Bay. They can hang out on the beach (slip, slop, slap!), go jetty jumping, grab lunch at DoughBalls, ride the Giant Wheel in summer or go shopping along Jetty Road. And don’t forget to grab an ice cream!

If they are really responsible you could let them ride the tram there themselves, too!

Step into the adventure at Fox in a Box 91ý , where families work together to crack clues, solve puzzles, and beat the clock in an unforgettable escape room experience.
Each game is designed to spark imagination, build teamwork, and create moments you’ll be talking about long after the doors unlock. With dedicated Game Masters guiding you along the way, it’s a fun, safe, and engaging activity for all skill levels.

Whether it’s your first escape room or you’re seasoned puzzle pros, there’s something for everyone, making it the ultimate family outing

teen shopping trip

Go Shopping!

It’s a well known fact that teenagers love shopping (especially if it’s your money they’re spending!), so why not take them to Rundle Mall or your closest shopping centre and give them a budget to spend on things they really want!

If they’re old enough and don’t want you hanging about, this is also a great option for a ‘drop and run’ with a few of their friends. Or you can find a seat at a cafe inside and enjoy a nice hot coffee and a book! Sounds like bliss to me.
