KIIS 1023 Skyline Giant Ferris Wheel at Glenelg /glenelg-ferris-wheel/ /glenelg-ferris-wheel/#respond Sun, 02 Nov 2025 11:15:31 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=34054 The KIIS 1023 Giant Wheel is BACK at Glenelg and sporting some seriously cool stickers on the seats! Skyline Attractions is thrilled to be coming back to Glenelg for the sixth year running. From Friday 24th October 2025 to 10th May 2026  you can take a ride 35 metres in the air (which is 17.9 Tim’s tall!) on the Giant Wheel overlooking Moseley Square. We LOVE it so much every year that we have jumped on board again as an official digital media sponsor!

The SkyLine Attractions Observation Wheel (or the KIIS 1023 Giant Wheel) is the tallest travelling, portable observation wheel in Australia, at 35 metres high, with 24 gondolas that seat up to 144 people at capacity. Up to 6 people can fit in each gondola (although 6 large adults will be a very tight fit!) and it makes a super fun family outing, or summer highlight with friends. Imagine your self kicking back and taking in spectacular views of the 91ý coastline.

While the photos and whole experience is excellent during the day time, visit on dusk or at night and you’ll be treated to a gorgeous photo opportunity with the wheel housing more than 9,000 lights – hello Instagram?!

The Wheel is also fully wheelchair accessible with gondolas available that can accommodate a wheelchair, fantastic!

Find it right near Glenelg Jetty (you can’t miss it!) The wheel will be running from 10am to 9:30pm daily, so make sure you get down there to visit and check it out for yourselves. *Closed Christmas Day & in extreme weather circumstances.

What’s a trip to Glenelg with out factoring in some time to visit the great Glenelg Foreshore Playground right next door as well?

Cost: (please check Giant Wheel website for current specials)

  • $15 adults (12+)
  • $12 seniors
  • $10 children (2-11)
  • $50 families (2 adults + 3 children)
  • * Surcharges apply on Public Holidays

Atura – 91ý’s Airport Hotel /atura-adelaides-airport-hotel/ /atura-adelaides-airport-hotel/#respond Mon, 27 Oct 2025 23:09:02 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=34673 I have to admit… when I first heard they were building an airport hotel in 91ý, I was a bit skeptical. Being so close to the city, did we really need to stay at the airport? Add two kids and an early flight… and I’ve completely changed my mind!

We recently spent the night atbefore an early morning flight, and the minute we walked through the door I knew it was a BRILLIANT idea. My six-year-old ran straight to the window to watch a Qantas plane land right in front of u, so exciting!

Could we hear it? No.
Could we see it? YES!
What an exciting place to stay… but did I manage to get them to sleep before the last plane landed? Read on to find out…

The hotel

Atura has a cool, industrial vibe. Polished concrete, splashes of bright yellow, and stylish touches throughout. The ground floor is where you’ll find reception, the bar, the restaurant, a lounge area, and plenty of comfy spots to relax with a drink or snack.

If you’re staying in a city view or runway room, head straight up to your room, you’ll want to be in prime plane-spotting position!

The hotel also has direct access to the airport. A few minutes’ walk and you’re at check-in, a lifesaver if you’ve ever travelled with kids. Wake up, enjoy breakfast, leave the mess behind, and stroll straight into the terminal. No mad dash, no stress… it’s honestly a game changer.

Rooms and comfort

We stayed in a Deluxe Twin room with two queen beds that were super comfy! The bathrooms are funky and fun, with South Australian-themed wallpaper (hello, Sturt Desert Pea!) and a quality hairdryer. It really is the little things that make a difference.

On our second stay, we didn’t have a runway view but booked a room with kid-friendly bunk beds, which was perfect. Both options are great depending on whether your priority is plane spotting or just a comfy stay with the kids.

Meals

We loved eating at Hangar Bar & Grill. Generous portions, tasty meals, and everything from kid-friendly options to hearty adult dishes. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with hot and cold options, cereals, bacon and eggs, toast machine, pastries, a coffee station, and even a granola bar!

There’s also a grab-and-go mini shop in the lobby with snacks, drinks, and even baby food pouches which is super handy for families.

What we loved

  • The view – even if you’re not flying anywhere, the kids will LOVE it.
  • The beds – seriously comfy!
  • The styling – cool, industrial vibe throughout.
  • Staff – friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
  • Parking – discounted nightly rate if you’re staying for a night.
  • 24-hour reception & free Wi-Fi
  • Airport screens – keep an eye on your flight from the lobby.
  • Room service – my poke bowl was YUUUM!

So, did I get my kids to sleep before the last plane landed at 10:30pm? The baby… yes. The Six-year-old: no… but not because of noise or lights. We were waiting for the last Emirates jumbo from Dubai and of course, she had to watch it land!

And here is a great tip: If you’re staying for the plane spotting download the app on your phone. It’ll tell you exactly what plane is coming in and where they’ve come from, or what plane is taking off and where they’re going to.

Download a flight radar app so you can see what plane that is.

Bunyip Children’s Trail, Bonython Park /bunyip-childrens-trail-bonython-park/ /bunyip-childrens-trail-bonython-park/#respond Tue, 01 Apr 2025 09:43:00 +0000 /?p=67943 Find it at: Livestrong Pathway, Hindmarsh (along the River Torrens)

We all already know that Bonython Park is AWESOME – between the playground & the newly re-opened 䲹é Bonython, we honestly thought it couldn’t get any better. But lo & behold, it does get better! Introducing the Bunyip Trail! It’s a Children’s Trail that you can access by heading west along the river from the playground & follows the story of The Bunyip of Berkeley’s Creek with interactive storyboards & activities for the kids to do along the way.

The Trail officially starts on the eastern side of the footbridge beside the small weir & is a 500m return trail. Walking SA suggests it will take around 1hr, but that will definitely depend on the speed of your kids! The track is pram friendly but can be bumpy in parts, so go with care. We suggest downloading the before you leave home to get the most out of the trail. The storyboards also include QR codes if you don’t want to worry about printing the booklet. If you’re not familiar with the book, The Bunyip Of Berkeley’s Creek, have a look below.

The trail has been left in its natural state as much as possible, so the interactive activity boards encourage discussions about nature – your kids will be encouraged to look for insects, compare different types of trees, look for litter on the ground & think about the types of animals that might live nearby. Once you get to the end of the trail, turn around & retrace your steps to get back to the start. You’ll be treated to gorgeous riverside views of the River Torrens there & back.

For more detailed maps & information, we suggest checking out the . Be aware that from May to August there is an increased risk of flooding and trail users are encouraged to remain vigilant and plan accordingly during this period.

Pack a couple of spare plastic bags. One for wet clothes and the other to pick up rubbish left by other not so considerate Bunyip spotters.

Once you have completed the trail, we suggest heading back to 䲹é Bonython for a well earned treat! Oh and don’t worry – this Bunyip Trail has nothing to do with the slightly more terrifying Bunyip at Murray Bridge!!

The Bunyip Children’s Trail
Bonython Park, along the River Torren.
Access from Gate 4, off Port Road

Family Day Trips from 91ý /family-day-trips-adelaide/ /family-day-trips-adelaide/#respond Mon, 28 Oct 2024 07:08:45 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=15565 I remember when I was a kid, we would pack up the car and drive into the 91ý Hills with no destination in mind. Every time we got to an intersection we’d take turns in saying left, right or straight and we’d just see where we’d end up. I remember ending up at Lady Bay once and Strathalbyn another time – it was fun.

If destination unknown isn’t your cup of tea, here are a few of our favourite day trips from 91ý that will get you home before bedtime. There is SO MUCH family fun to be had in South Australia that is just a short trip from the suburbs – so pack the car and get exploring South Aussie families!

Hahndorf

Around 30 minutes drive from 91ý CBD.The whole family will enjoy a stroll down the beautiful main street where you can stop to look in all the boutique shops, pop into Beerenberg Farm (bonus if it’s strawberry picking season!) enjoy a delicious homemade icecream, chocolate dipped strawberry or bag of lollies from one of the yummy lolly shops. Work off that big German lunch with a visit to a playground just off Main Street, the Alec Johnson Park. You’ll also have enough time to include a visit to one of our favourite kids attractions in SA theHahndorf Farm Barn. The hardest decision, should you stop at Grunthal Brew (and Udder Delights Cheese Cellar) on the way into to town, or on the way out because my god are they geared up for outdoor kids, pizzas, beers and more.

Gumeracha

Around 60 minutes drive from 91ý CBD in our gorgeous 91ý Hills, why not combine a trip to the National Motor Museum with a visit to the Toy Factory and Animal Farm at The Big Rocking Horse. Kids for generations have loved a visit to the famous rocking horse and even after all these years it is still a fantastic trip! Enjoy your hills day trip with a visit to the Cudlee Creek Cafe for a coffee and snack too, or maybe continue onwards to the Barossa Adventure Station to try out the fantastic playground.

Victor Harbor

Around 90 minutes drive from 91ý CBD. A great trip for a sunny day you can be running around on the beaches of the Fleurieu Peninsula before lunchtime. Ride the Cockle Train at Goolwa, jump on the horsedrawn tram to Granite Island, visit theWhale Centreor visit on Saturday to check out theVictor Harbor Farmers Markets. We love eating at The Causeway Cafe. Victor has a billion fab playgrounds too, why not try the Youth Park on the foreshore for the older kids, or the fantastic GT Fisher (Train Playground) right near the Granite Island causeway and amusements. For more on our Family Friendly Victor ideas click here!

St Kilda

Located about 45 minutes from 91ý, the St Kilda Playground is a fun day out for kids from about age 3+.  There are lots of interesting forts, slides and play equipment to enjoy, and the playground has been recently renovated. There isn’t a lot around the playground, so pack a lunch and stay for the day, or check out our northern family friendly places to eat and plan your day. It is such a massive precinct with so much for the kids to explore….oh and check out the Pirate Ship too! It is a beauty.

The Barossa Valley

Just an hours drive from 91ý, the Barossa Valley is the perfect day trip!

Renowned for it’s wine, there’s some pretty amazing family friendly cellars in the region, but did you know there’s more to the Barossa than wine tasting?

From hiking and hot air ballooning to farmers markets and play centres – this really is a wonderful and not to mention picturesque destination. The kids will love talking to each other from one end of the Whispering Wall to the other or stop and let them burn some energy at the Barossa Adventure Station. Take the Kids Fishing in South Australia /take-the-kids-fishing-in-south-australia/ /take-the-kids-fishing-in-south-australia/#respond Thu, 03 Oct 2024 09:04:13 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=8455 Here are five great places to fish with young kids around 91ý (with out a boat).

1. Westlakes Outlet

Westlakes outlet is a great spot to fish with kids. There is close car parking, easy to access areas to fish and plenty of fish to catch for the kids. Expect to catch mullet, salmon trout and bream, but in this water body you will always get surprises with multiple species living in the area. You can fish this area year round and the best bait to use would be cockles, beach worms and small white bait. Use of a Paternoster rig () is the way to go. Side note, there are even a few playgrounds along here in the event that it turns out fishing isn’t for your kids after all.

2. Onkaparinga River

From Old Noarlunga all the way through to the river mouth at Port Noarlunga there are multiple spaces you can fish and park your car for easy access for you and the kids. Bream, mullet , salmon trout and mulloway are the usual suspects in this stretch. Bait to use would be cockles, beach worms and small white bait . Paternoster rig is the way to go here too.

3. Sturt Reserve Murray Bridge

This is a great spot to catch the kids a carp! There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, the whole reserve is grassed and at the northern end there is decking if you feel that is more comfortable. In most places you can park your car in close proximity to where you are fishing. Using sweet corn out of a can is the best bait here and easy for the kids to help put on the hooks. We recommend putting a life vest on the kids for peace of mind.

4. Moana Beach

This is surely one of 91ý’s best beaches given its dual access for people by foot and you can drive your car on to the south end. North of the surf club it is access by foot only but there are great car parks and it’s easy access right along this stretch. When selecting where to set up and cast, look for the deeper parts of the water where the waves aren’t breaking as much on the beach, this is where the fish hang out and  these are called ‘gutters’.  Now you have some lingo you are sure to catch a fish right? You can expect to catch tommie ruff (Australian Hearing),  salmon trout , whiting and mullet on this beach. Best bait to use would be cockles, beach worms and small white bait. Paternoster rig is the way to go.

5. Semaphore Beach

Semaphore is another one of 91ý’s great beaches for fishing with excellent access for the family to get a line in. Again look for the deeper parts of the beach and you should have best luck finding the fish. Expect to catch mullet, salmon trout , whiting, tommies and you might even snag a blue swimmer or sand crab on this beach as well.

Of course our fantastic metro jetties are worth fishing from as well – some such as Brighton, Glenelg and Port Noarlunga also have playgrounds and cafes nearby just in case not everyone in the family want to stand on the jetty all day long!

Five things to consider when fishing with young kids.

1. Know the tides for the day and always use burley.

Follow the tide time which can be found on line with apps like for your exact location. Fishing 2hrs before the low tide and 2 hrs before the high tide are the best fishing periods to fish, this will maximise the chances of you and the kids catching fish. Using Burley will increase your chances of catching a fish 1000% (ok that seems like a reasonable percentage, but fishermen are know to stretch a story). Burley is used to attract fish to your area and can be found at pretty much any locally owned fishing shops. These places will direct you to what burley you will want for the area you are fishing. They are also great resources for fishing gear, where to fish and what bait you’d be best advised using, so ask the questions when you’re in the store, or pay a visit in the days leading up to your fishing adventure.

2. Make sure the kids have the right clothing and cover for the conditions.

Keeping kids warm and sun protected is key when land based fishing, foot wear is important also. When kids get cold they will want to go home. You might even want to bring along a folding chair and a blanket to make sure if it gets a bit cold they have a place to get warm again. A flask of hot chocolate might do the trick too.

3. Always have additional water (not just drinking water) in the car.

This is very important for cleaning up dirty hands and sandy feet if you are not close to the amenities the council provide in some of these locations.

4. Involved the kids in as much of the planning and hands on action as possible, and keep it simple.

The act of catching a fish is the ultimate bit of fun for the kids but make sure you include them in purchasing the burley, making the rigs, getting the bait ready, talking to them about . Talk about the tides and always initiate some conversation around identifying the dangers where ever you are. It is all great knowledge for them and learning life skills like this will help them grow into well round responsible fisher people as they get older.

5. Kids need a bit of comfort.

Taking a chair for kids to have a rest if they start to get tired is critical, but so are snacks. Snacks and a drink are king when fishing and teaching little people the art of patience, you’ll be surprised how much longer they will stay interested for with a seat and some fuel.

…..and some places a bit further from 91ý

  1. SA has many regional jetties that are fantastic for catching squid, tommies and maybe some garfish, among other species.
  2. Any of the beaches along the beautiful Coorong.
  3. Drag a rake through the sand for some blue swimmer crabs at places like Ardrossan, Port Parham or St Kilda (try on the out going tide in the months that have an ‘R’ in them – so they say)

Find out exactly where you can and can’t fish and be sure you’re not in a sanctuary zone. Finally, remember to leave nothing but footprints and happy fishing with kids!

Thanks to our long time angler mate Leigh Bobridge for the tips.

Here’s our top 10 ways to keep your toddlers happy, entertained and having fun in 91ý
