Kids in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Best Babyccino 2024click here for all of the info and full list

‘It takes a village’. As parents, I’m sure you’ve heard the term thrown around the playground before. But, the Village Grounds Cafe adapts the phrase into their daily perfectly. With a welcoming vibe and philanthropic values, it’s easy to see why locals have fallen in love with this delightful little cafe on Torrens Rd at Alberton. This is not just a cafe, it’s a community and like seemingly everybody else visiting, this place made us feel like a million bucks! Here’s why!

Village Grounds do a very fancy babyccino of the month! It’s still only $3 or you can simply order a regular babyccino for just $1. This is actually how we found them back in 2022, when they took out our prestigious South Australia’s Best Babyccino award. Here at Kids in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, we make it our annual mission to hunt down the BEST babyccino in South Australia. You could say we’re pretty serious about warm frothy milk. These beautiful creative folks actually should have won again in 2023, by a landslide in fact, however stepped aside so as another SA small biz could have the lime light. They INSISTED. Now here we are in 2024 and there is no way we were letting them withdraw, and despite some tough competition, by the skin of their teeth this time, they have it in the bag for another year!

Beyond the babyccinos, Village Grounds is the perfect meeting place for parenting groups, impromptu playdates, or a sanctuary where the whole family can relax with a warm beverage and a tasty treat. It’s affordable. Its also a social setting and fantastic if you are just a solo mum with a kid needing to get out of the house and find a smiling face to chat with. Set up in a community-type hall with plenty of scattered tables and chairs overlooking the inside play area, the space is inviting with plenty of imaginative play offerings to keep the under fives entertained. There’s adequate heating for those cold, winter days but when the weather allows, head outside for some fresh air. The large fenced yard and grassed area is practically made for turbo-charged toddlers with a decent sized sandpit, an abundance of toys and play equipment and plenty of pram access. It’s also now got a full shade cover (summer months) and a cute little cubby house.

Going to Village Grounds is like visiting that one friend who welcomes you with open arms, has a living room full of age-appropriate toys and just happens to be a terrific barista. It’s comfort. It’s a safe space. It’s affordable quality like we’ve never seen. This is a place where it’s easy to connect with other parents on the same ride as you,

Urm ok so what if we tell you that you can also shop here? There’s a second-hand clothing market for babies and toddlers and my frugal way of living couldn’t love this any harder if I tried. Pre-owned clothing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but most items are of excellent quality, as many babies simply grow too quickly to get any proper use out of their clothing. All items are priced as low as a couple of bucks, which is just fabulous for those on a budget (and let’s face it, with the increased cost of living, we all are). Want to know what really got us in the feels though? By positively contributing to the environment and donating your kids’ clothing that is waaaay to good for landfill you can score yourself a FREE coffee. Such a great incentive for when you’re short of coin and coffee is just too much of a luxury.

Parking is easy and the light food menu is good and again affordable. Offering small but no less delicious food options, the menu has all the popular choices you’d expect to accompany your coffee. Croissants, banana bread, toasted sandwiches and of course, smiley face biscuits for the kiddies. Perfect in its simplicity! Worth noting, that there’s also a selection of gluten-free options.

Lastly, dont drive? No worries! Village grounds is a 100m walk (if that?) from Alberton Train Station.

Open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 am to 3 pm – Village Grounds is 100% worth a visit.
What will their next babyccino be I wonder?!

  • Cafe Bonython at the Bonython Park Playground is definitely a Kids In 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ favourite! You could literally spend a day here! Where else can you find an excellent cafe, within eyeball distance of the playground, watch planes over head, walk to the train bridge, feed ducks, kick a ball, fly a kite, ride a tram and wash it all down with an excellent coffee and babyccino? There's so much happening at this delightful little space. Better still, it's good.
