Beach Road Wines is one of those rare places where grown-ups and kids can both completely relax. Set high above McLaren Vale, the views spill out across the vines, and there’s no rush to leave. We settled under the big shady tree, sharing wood-fired pizzas (and mention worthy potatoes and salad) while the breeze carried the scent of the vineyards.
The kids darted between bites and playtime, climbing in and out of the charming little “boat†sandpit just a few steps away (OMG it was even clean, close and safe enough that we could keep an eye on them while actually enjoying our time at the table.)
What makes Beach Road Wines so fabulous for families is how effortlessly it all flows. The space invites kids to move, play, and explore without ever feeling like you’re intruding on other diners. The food is simple and delicious, the staff are welcoming, and the whole experience feels like a long, happy exhale. For parents chasing that perfect mix of great wine, good food and genuine kid-friendliness this spot is pure McLaren Vale magic.
We must give a nod to the warm chocolate brownie that stole our hearts, and the gelati cabinet that stole the remainder of the days calorie intake.
This place is a true 10/10 for families. So many wineries are not this.

Find it at: West Park Way, McLaren Vale Located just off Main Road down at the stunning McLaren Vale, this stunning reserve is home to one of the most picturesque playgrounds down south, especially when the trees are in bloom. With a climbing sphere, swings, plenty of grass and did we mention the nearby tank (which is always a show stopper), this precinct makes for a great stop and leg stretch on your McLaren Vale day trip. The larger precinct also has BBQs, tennis courts and a BMX track! The larger area includes toilets and plenty of grassed areas to sit down with your fruchocs (its compulsory to visit the Fruchoc Shop at McVale) and soak in the serenity.
This winery goes by two names. The wines are called Fork in the Road wines and the venue as such is called Old Oval Estate and it’s the sweetest family run winery. Old Oval Estate has a lovely home away from home feel and before my visit I had someone tell me it’s their favourite place to take the kids and I can see why. The location and space lend itself to being a great place to head for a platter and catch up with friends and/or family. So that’s what we did when we met another family there for an afternoon of playing, platters and wine. With kids ranging in age from 4 to 14 who were happy the whole time, we think it’s a winner. There are many spaces to enjoy. You can sit out the front of the cellar door or enjoy a tasting in the cellar door then head out the back to the garden and that’s where I think the magic begins. There are tables scattered around the gorgeous manicured gardens and then there is a beautiful patio area that is heated and has me dreaming up having a birthday party there. When it comes…
