Tour Down Under – a fun family event!

Australia’s greatest cycling is returning once again to South Australia from January 16 – 25 at the Santos Tour Down Under 2026.

This is one of our favourite South Oz events, and it can be loads of fun for kids too.

Cycling enthusiasts, locals and visitors alike will watch as elite cyclists travel through some of the state’s most scenic backdrops during the action-packed nine-day event. Kicking off on Friday 16 January with some of the biggest names in world cycling descending on 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, the stages are set and like always, this festival is going to be massive. Family Day is Tuesday 20 January and this is the perfect opportunity for kids to learn new skills, meet the Oppy the mascot, join in with some art and crafts and of course, go for a ride!

The City of 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Tour Village is another reason why the Santos Tour Down Under is such a hit with families. Located in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga, it’s free to enter and packed with activities for kids of all ages. The Kids Zone is a highlight, featuring face painting, balloon twisting, giant games, and even a chance to write letters to their favourite riders at the Peloton Post. F

Parents will love the relaxed vibe, with shady spots, live music, and plenty of food and drink options. The Tour Village is a great place to hang out between stages, catch live race coverage on the big screen, or explore the latest in cycling gear at the Bike Expo. Whether you’re a cycling fan or just looking for a fun day out, this central hub has something for everyone.

  • Choosing a bike for your kids can be tough. With so many options and so many price points, plus throw in balance bikes and training wheels and sizing and it can all feel a tad overwhelming. The KiA family have kids of all ages and we were so lucky to try out some of the base bike range, an 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ based family business offering a range of bikes catering for bike riders aged 2 to 8 years old. base bikes 16 inch model The 16 inch base bike is primed for kids moving off a balance bike and into their pedal bike era. Our just turned 4 year old had become a bit of a whiz on his balance bike, so we decided to try moving him straight from a balance to a pedal bike with no training wheels. There is no right or wrong option here and every kid is different (and we might even end up trying training wheels if needed) The base bike 16 inch option comes in two colours currently, a green and an orange, and the first thing you will notice is how light it is. • Rices Creek is tucked away in the picturesque town of Auburn, surrounded by a beautiful native garden, vineyards, and an olive grove. One of the highlights is the full 18-hole mini golf course, which was a fantastic way to spend an hour or so with the family when visiting the Clare Valley region. The kids had an absolute blast, and even Dad mentioned that the course was surprisingly great - challenging enough to keep everyone engaged. The cafe overlooks the mini golf course and although we didn’t have time to grab a coffee or an ice cream (much to the kids' disgust), but the cafe looked really cute and would’ve been the perfect spot to linger a bit longer. There's also a fully enclosed courtyard, making it ideal for families, with a children’s playground just nearby. There’s also a large sheltered seating area next to the playground, with extra games to keep the kids entertained while you relax. Our round of mini golf set us back $30 for a family of two adults and two children, which we thought was pretty decently priced. It was the perfect activity for quality family time in a lovely outdoor setting and a great…
