A walking and cycling trail connecting Stebonheath Wetlands to Craigmore is providing walking and riding options for northern families seeking healthy and fun activities.
New block footpath, with linkages, was recently installed along 4.7 kilometres of Smith Creek from the eastern side of Main North Road to Yorktown Road, significantly extending the trail and connecting it to nearby neighbourhoods and, more importantly, playgrounds.
The path, known as the Smith Creek Trail, also incorporates the Elephant Walk at Smithfield and connects to the Stuart O’Grady Bikeway (adjacent the Northern Expressway) via Curtis Road.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the improved trail is great for families looking to be active and healthy.
“We know how much our residents value this extension by the large numbers of families riding their bikes, walking their dogs or just enjoying the linear-park environment that is right on their doorstep,†Mayor Docherty said.
For Emma Wallace and her kids, the newly installed pavement has made daily family walks much easier.
Emma, of Craigmore, always enjoyed having the natural beauty of Smith Creek on her doorstep and now she and her family are enjoying the benefits of the upgraded trail.
“I absolutely love it, it’s so much easier to walk the kids down here with the prams and the dog and everything else,†Emma said.
“I’ve been using the path from the minute it went up.â€
In total, more than 13,200m2 of new Keypave Paver, or more than 415,200 pavers, was laid in the project, which was supported through a $150,000 grant Fund My Neighbourhood State Government grant.

Find it at: Just off Beadnall Terrace, Glengowrie Located in the quiet suburb of Glengowrie and right next door to the YMCA this small local little playground opened in April 2018. Great for toddlers and kindy aged kids whilst limited play equipment the overall play space has a variety of things for kids to explore Featuring a multi use climbing frame including rope, bar climbing and a mini rock climb that then leads to the attached slippery dip. The play space also has a nest swing along with a lovely nature play area including wooden logs to climb, step and jump on and off. A favourite of the reserve would be the mini bike track that utilises the existing trees and create a café like feel for the kids to ride under. The area has lots of grass to run around, kick balls, play hide and seek or just have fun with nature. Find it at: Brownhill Creek Road, Brown HIll Creek Test out an afternoon with nature at Brownhill Creek. Enjoy a quiet adventure with the family here year round. In summer there's usually just enough water to be fun for the littler kids without the faster flowing water you'll find here in Autumn and winter. We have spent a number of wonderful afternoons down at Brownhill Creek armed with nothing more than some bathers, towel, gumboots and a bucket (or even less!) For older families there is a great walking path alongside the road where you can walk right up the valley (and sometimes spot the horses if you walk far enough!).
