Animal Themed Playgrounds

Thorndon Reserve, Paradise

Australia’s Best Playground as voted in 2023, the incredible bird themed playground has some of the most unique and wonderful equipment in South Australia. The kids will love climbing through the huge structures and this is one of those play spaces where you can easily spend the day.

Cormorant Drive Reserve, Hallett Cove

A giant Diprotodon (pre-historic wombat) is the star attraction at this playground down south, a nod to fossils of the extinct giant that was found in the area. Great fun to learn about and even better fun to climb.

Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge

Home to the world (well….SA at least) famous Bunyip, this attraction at Sturt River Reserve has scared kids for generations and delighted parents equally as much. The Bunyip is currently in really good condition and is primed to scare the shite out of anyone under the age of 10 and quite a few older than that. An all round ripper of a playground which is fully fenced, fully shaded and absolutely enormous. Don’t forget the pump tracks, rage cages (its a sport thing…not where you leave angry kids) and a fantastic skate park.

Turtle Park Playground is the latest in Hickinbotham and Land SA’s housing developments vision to create playgrounds as the hub of these new communities. This one is suited for the younger kids under 6.

Keith Stephenson Reserve, Mount Barker

A wonderfully updated playground (in 2024) which focusses on the local wildlife, this fully fenced playground is great for the under 10s and is highlighted by a giant climbable turtle.

A lovely little playground in the north east, home to what I wrongly identified as a Dinosaur on facebook a while back (thankfully the internet politely advised me of the error of my ways), this dragon themed spot is a fave with the locals and has some fab equipment to boot. Check it out here!

St Kilda Adventure Playground

One of 91¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s playground icons, the adventure playground is also home to the famous pirate ship which 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ kids have enjoyed for what seems like forever. Every kid has at some point, stood on that ship and looked out to sea and imagined they were sailing the seven seas looking for treasure. The playground itself is probably 91¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s biggest and maybe most famous. A bit of a trek out north but totally worth it and a rite of passage (along with schoolies and doing something stupid to end up on Sh*t91¹û¶³´«Ã½) for all South Aussies.

Mary Ann Reserve Playground, Mannum

Located on the beautiful riverbanks of Mannum lies this fully fenced playground. Not only does this playground have a boat for your little ones to play on, you are right at the heart of the river bank where house boats dock and boats are at full force during the summer months. Our little ones even loved watching the ferry cross the river while they were playing. With toilets close by and a shade sail, this is the perfect playground to add to your road trip list.

AA Bailey Reserve, Clarence Gardens

We love this huge plagryound at Clarence Gardens, which has so much to offer kids of all ages, least of all the pirate loving tikes who will gain their sea legs on the really cool pirate ship. The pirate ship here may be a bit smaller, but the playground is an absolute fave. It is basically 2 big playgrounds in one, with nature play, toddler age equipment plus climbing equipment that caters to the older kids

Jubilee Adventure Playground, Port Noarlunga

One of the biggest and best playgrounds in the deep south, the ‘wooden’ playground at Porties includes a huge wooden fort inspired throughout with boating themes, to give you the impression of being on a massive wooden boat. The kids will love running around and being fully fenced (the fort part….the other nature section isn’t sadly) you can let the kids run around knowing they (probably) can’t get out.

Moana Seaside Park

A brand new addition to the pirate playground landscape, opening in June 2020 is this ripper of a playground way down south at Moana! The highlight of this playground is the brightly coloured pirate ship with added escape slide for those who don’t want to walk the plank. A very popular new addition for the locals, we loved our recent visit!

Angus Neil Reserve, Seacliff

Beaches = Pirates. So it makes sense that one of the best beachside playgrounds along our southern coast has a sweet little nature inspired pirate ship. This is a ripper playground and one of the best party playgrounds going around too, so if you want to book a party for your pirate loving tykes, give this a look.

Bandon Reserve Marino

With some spectacular views along our southern coast, Bandon Reserve landed a nautical makeover in 2021, which makes for a picture perfect pit stop as you head down for a day at the beach. With great climbing equipment and of course a boat to explore, this is a ripper.

GT Fisher Playground, Victor Harbor

The OG train playground, with the huge steam train being parked in this playground as long as I can remember (lets just say 30 odd years). Now massively renovated to include one of the best nature playgrounds in the state, the train remains (slightly modified for safety compared to years gone by) for kids to climb all over and imagine being an engineer!

Tolley Reserve Playground, Nuriootpa

Tolley Reserve, or Nuriootpa Train Playground is a large open space for kids of all ages and abilities. It makes the perfect stop on a day out at the Barossa Valley so that the kids can play and run off some energy! The full size old train has been there for years and is an icon in the area.

Victoria Square, Kadina

One of our fave regional playgrounds, this place is massive and suits all ages. Including a huge fully fenced (and shaded) playground for the younger crew, as well as a very high treetop climbing set up (it is really high!), add to that the Apex Express, a huge train full of space for the kids to climb on the explore.

Tailem Bend Playground

Train fans this one is for you! That might even equally apply to the train enthusiast parents as well, because this one is a beauty! A fully fenced, humungous playspace in the heart of Tailem Bend, this one not only caters to train fans but includes a great range of play equipment for all ages. When we popped in for a visit, there were lots of local families enjoying what is obviously THE place to be for families in Tailem Bend.

Jack Watkins Reserve, Kilburn has had a multi million dollar upgrade, and has officially opened in September 2025. Expect to find an incredibly creative TRAIN THEME here, with a lot of inclusive thought across some elements. The smaller kids will adore the train-themed fun, including train, carriages and ticket booths. There are facilities galore! With two sets of toilets, multiple water refill stations, BBQs, and more sheltered seating and tables than we’ve ever seen at a park!

Barossa Adventure Station

Another brand new playground is this belter up at Angaston, which draws on the old train station land where it was developed. Kids can slide down the huge tube slide from the tower into the train carriage themed area down on the lower level. Great fun! So much more to do, including bike tracks and a skate park. One of our fave day trip playground destinations which will take you through the stunning 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Hills.

Crozier Reserve Daw Park

We love a hidden gem and for the little train lovers down south, this one at Daw Park is a fully fenced beauty. Light on equipment but big on peace and serenity, this ideal toddler playground includes a small train which is perfect for imagination play.

Kapunda Lions Park Playground

What a gem of a regional playground this one is! Fully fenced and spacious, with plenty of natural and artificial shade, plus one of the best trains (full sized we might add) we have seen in quite some time. Leo is an old steam engine from the copper mining days of the town, and your train loving kids will be all over this one.

Kadina Playground

Some people think this is the best playground on the Yorke Peninsula, and we’d have to agree it would certainly be up there! This park also has a FULL SIZE TRAIN with a ramp to jump in the back. All aboard the Apex Express!

Croydon Playground

This playground is a little gem with its own little train, perfect for those young train enthusiasts. The kids will love this park as it’s right next to the Croydon Train Station and the kids can view the train coming and going frequently- right up close! Don’t worry- the playground is fully fenced and now has toilets!

Greenglade Playground, Paradise

Do you have a Dinosaur loving kid? Greenslade Playground at Paradise is a lovely little spot with a really cool dinosaur that you (or the kids…but don’t let me stop you!) can climb all over and through a little dino-tunnel! How cool!

The Womat Waterhole playground also features a dinosaur dig sandpit where you can bring our your inner paleantologist and dig for dinosaur bones.

Cormorant Drive Reserve Playground, Hallett Cove

This reserve has an interesting history with a Diprotodon (Giant Wombat) fossil remains found here in 1992. This Australian megafauna was the world’s largest marsupial and lived between 15,000-10,000 years ago.

Naracoorte Caves Fossil Hunters Playground

The Naracoorte Caves are a world famous natural wonder right here on our doorstep, but did you know they also have a (probably) world famous nature playground as well? We visited last year and it is just sensational. Fossil themed naturally, kids will love exploring and digging their way around this sensational facility. On your trip to the caves, allow time to explore this spot.

Morialta Conservation Park Playground

Maybe 91¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s premier nature playground, Morialta is a sensational spot for 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ families located in the eastern suburbs, which forms part of the larger conservation park (stunning family walks…more on those here!), a perfect day out at Morialta will have the kids running around and exploring the magnificent scenery and playing on all the wonderful play equipment which blends seamlessly into the environment….except the 3 storey tube slide…you can’t hide that!

St Kilda Adventure Park

An Adelaie icon for what feels like generations, St Kilda Adventure Playground has had a few upgrades over the years and is still a fabulous spot for a day out with the family. Plenty of space, all the facilities you would want and some incredible play equipment.

Mitcham Reserve

This has always been a rather spectacular spot due to the beautiful scenery, nearby creeks (and awesome coffee shops around Mitcham), but after a massive redevelopment in about 2018, it is even more special now. Constructed using beautiful wooden materials of different shapes and sizes, the kids will feel like they have been transported to some sort of medieval kingdom with the highlight being the huge tower and tube slide (we know, not many tube slides in ye olde times but a bit of poetic licence here). This is the perfect playground picnic spot too, with so much grass and shade from the trees.

Marshmallow Park

If you have a kid that has gone on any excursion to the city with kindy in the past few years, chances are they ate lunch here so the teachers could rest. A fully fenced sandpit with lots of water and play equipment, pack extra clothes for this one. Located on Glen Osmond Road in the city, it really is a fantastic playground and one of our faves for the little kids, with some great natural elements to climb on and interact with, plus some really cool standard playground equipment. If your kid loves to get messy, this is the park for them.

An ice cream themed playground by the beach? How good is this! So unique it really fits in its own category, this 2024 built playspace out at Largs Foreshore is your wildest dreams come true. Full of ice cream themed equipment, your kids will love it!

Opened in late 2023 in our brand new Glenthorne National Park, the nature playground is absolutely sensational, with several playspaces offering an abundance of nature themed play, as well as some great climbing towers and slides.

Bowman Park Port Pirie

Located up at Port Pirie (near Crystal Brook to be exact), this is such an incredible playground built by the very talented team at . A short detour off the highway, it is well worth the trip. This was really a local project with materials and talented local trades used to bring this to life!

Jervois Street Reserve

One of the best playgrounds in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, is this ripper at South Plympton. It is fully fenced to lock in those scallywag tearaway little kids, it has an older kids playground with flying fox and other climbing/sporting stuff to do, but it is the nature play which brings us here today. With fantastic wood and stone pieces to climb on, plus every parents favourite playground feature….sand and water play, the little ones will have a blast. So much more to do that hasn’t been listed here.

Belair Adventure Playground

This is THE quintessential nature playground in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½. Located in Belair National Park (so obviously a bucketload of nature everywhere you look), it is a bit more dated compared to the others listed but some things get better with age…..not saying this has gotten better with age unfortunately (it hasn’t really changed since I first went 30 odd years ago), but it is still a sensational spot. Apart from the playground you get to experience all that the national park has to offer, which is always a perfect family day out (or weekend if you want to camp). The playground has all the classic features you remember from school excursions in the 80s, the huge wooden fort, the cement tunnel network to hide in….bliss. For some reason this playground always reminds me of giant arrowroot bush biscuits, which I think was the school snack of choice for excursions a long, long time ago.

The long-awaited redevelopment of St Morris Reserve is now complete, and at its heart lies a vibrant new playground that’s already becoming a favourite spot for families across the eastern suburbs. Part of a major upgrade delivered by the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, this project has transformed the reserve into a modern community destination supporting play, leisure and connection.

The new playground replaces aging equipment with contemporary, multi-age play options designed to engage toddlers through older kids. Safe, sun-smart experiences are supported by generous shade sails and accessible surfaces, while seating, park furniture and improved pathways cater to families making a day of it.

Beyond the playground, new amenities enrich the reserve for everyone. A dedicated picnic shelter and BBQ facilities make it easy to gather with friends or enjoy a weekend lunch outdoors, while toilet facilities and accessible paved connections improve convenience for all visitors. We love how this is fully fenced, shaded and play elements that cater for all ages, which you don’t often find.

For active recreation, the upgrade introduced a multi-purpose court and a dedicated hit wall — perfect for basketball, ball games or simply enjoying physical activity in the fresh air. Extensive landscaping and irrigation have refreshed the park’s look with new trees, shrubs and open lawn areas, creating a greener, cooler space that enhances the local neighbourhood.

This redevelopment isn’t just about recreation — it’s part of a larger stormwater resilience project. The reserve now includes a purpose-built detention basin that helps manage heavy rainfall and reduce flooding risk in St Morris and surrounding suburbs. When not in use for stormwater, this basin remains a grassy, open area contributing to the park’s overall ambiance.

Tusmore Park Wading Pool is fast becoming a favourite spot for visitors to cool down during the warmer months.

The design features a fully fenced and shaded wading pool, lawned areas for picnics, a new creek style section, tiered seating and water play equipment for plenty of splashing and playing during the summer months.

A few points worth mentioning:

• It’s fully fenced!! Hoorah!
• It’s unsupervised which means there’s NO lifeguard on duty – so pretty please keep an eye on your kids while they’re in the water.
• It’s open sunrise to sunset.
• No bookings required.
• and best of all, it’s FREE!

Tusmore Park is a gorgeous spot in the Eastern suburbs with plenty of room for picnics, birthday parties and weekend BBQs. As well as the fabulous wading pool there’s a nearby playground, tennis court, toilets and a gorgeous creek running right through the middle.

The Pool is open during the warmer months (from mid-october until April).

Each year from approximately April-October the Tusmore Park Wading Pool closes for cleaning, refilling, chemical treatment and maintenance.

Nestled in the 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ foothills between Waterfall Gully Road and Wyatt Road, Langman Reserve is a much-loved local gem. It’s perfect for families seeking a relaxed outdoor escape with plenty of space, activities and shade.

Ride Burnside

Also popping up at this park during August-October 2025 is the ride Burnside pump track. When it’s at the park it’s open daily from Sunrise to Sunset. Come and ride whenever you like. More info here

Bonython Park Playground, 91¹û¶³´«Ã½

Bonython Park Playground has a some very cool features not found in the typical suburban park. Some of the best equipment includes two 25m flying fox lines fun for kids of all ages and an extensive water play area complete with pumps, gates and a watermill. Kids love playing and experimenting with water and this is a safe and interactive water zone to suits kids as young as 1, while still entertaining the older ones.

Marshmallow Park, 91¹û¶³´«Ã½

This playground includes some brilliant new nature play features, alongside more traditional swings, slides and climbing frames. There is a great water feature hill that flows into a giant sandpit and some awesome equipment that is designed to be accessible from a wheelchair. A new giant slide, super cool jellyfish and witchetty grub sculptures, and huge wooden climbing frame complete the fully fenced ‘junior’ area

Langman Reserve Playground, Burnside

This wonderful playground includes toddler-friendly play equipment plus a sports library where you can borrow equipment like footballs, netballs and tennis courts to use on the large oval and courts.

The park has a jigsaw theme and the range of equipment has something for everyone from toddlers to older kids. It includes asand area with digger, water play, a climbing wall and swings.

Penfold Park Playground, Magill

You will find toilets, drinking fountains, a huge lush grassed area, walking trails (or bike/scooter trails for us!), tennis courts, BBQ, seating and under cover areas (fabulous large rotunda!). The playground is also shaded too, apart from the large amount of natural shade throughout the reserve.

Kensington Park Oval

Nature play is the theme here at this beautiful toddler playground with the playground sitting nicely with the local scenery. There is shade, toilets, a water fountain and tables and a reasonable amount of play equipment, with swings, balancing logs, and a small tower and slide which will keep the young ones happy enough.

Thorndon Park Playground, Paradise

The park’s facilities are also first class, including walking paths, BBQs, toilets, rotunda, pavilion, ovals, exercise equipment, picnic shelters and the carpark. Shortly after opening, council listened to community feedback and installed several extra shade installations over the play equipment, which we applaud! The new shade will cover the carousel, trampolines, junior slide and swings

Golden Fields Adventure Playground, Golden Grove

With two playgrounds, separated by a large grassy area and fitness equipment this playgrouund is an absolute gem. There are also toilets located at both play areas.

Cobbler Creek Recreation Park, Golden Grove

The natural form playspace features multiple ‘raptor-themed birds nest’ climbing structures in the middle of the play area which give a really cool birds eye view from above. There are also large sandpits built to look like birdsnests from above, slides, a flying fox, rockbed, balance frames, swings, toilets, BBQs and bike tracks.

Illyarrie Reserve Playground, Surrey Downs

A great little Northern suburbs park that is a great spot for a picnic or birthday party. Illyarrie is a nice big space with plenty of natural shade. There are two playground areas with equipment including a tunnel slide and toddler slide, a few different swings including a nest swing and a great climbing frame that little ninjas will love. Little kids will love the fire truck and you can even BYO ping pong bat and balls to use on the permanent table! That’s something new!

Solandra Reserve Playground, Modbury North

Pack up the change of clothes kids, we are going to sand and water play nirvana! Solandra Reserve out at Modbury North has had a fab upgrade, with the space transformed into a brilliant community facility. Featuring the already mentioned sand and water play features (undercover too we might add!), chuck in a great little pump track and a range of equipment to suit the big kids and little ones, this one will definitely be getting a return visit.

Jack Watkins Reserve, Kilburn

Toilets and Trains, what a combo! This new upgrade is EPIC and it might just be one of 91¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s best all round playgrounds for all ages. It’s not only a brilliant play space, but also a fabulous party park, seriously, it has everything.

Glover North Playground, North 91¹û¶³´«Ã½

Better known as Helicopter Park to many, Glover North Playground is located on Lefevre Terrace in North 91¹û¶³´«Ã½. With a large helicopter as its centrepiece, smaller kids can slide out of the chopper’s belly as one of the many pint-sized highlights located at this much loved playground. There are also plenty of swings, see-saws, climbing frames and sand play equipment including the popular diggers in the huge sandpit.

Fremont Park, Elizabeth

There are plenty of BBQs, toilets (THANK YOU!), drinking fountains, heaps of parking, seating for adults and they have even added a basketball court too! Local school children contributed to the upgrade plans which will include new all-abilities play equipment, climbing equipment, spinning cogs, talking tubes and even some Holden themed play/climbing structures. It is so cool!

The skate park is a major hit with a lot of kids both young and old. There is also a small playground near there to keep the little ones happy while the big ones skate.

Hessing Crescent Playground, Trott Park

Hessing Crescent was upgraded in September 2024, and this little playground is packed full of features for the under 10s. Did we mention it is FULLY FENCED? There is a public toilet at this one too which is fantastic. You will find it through the public courts to the north of the playground (about 60m) and there is a sign pointing the direction

Angus Neill Reserve, Seacliff

Located opposite the tranquil beach that runs between Seacliff and Brighton, Angus Neill Reserve is ideal for large gatherings. There’s plenty of parking available around the park and it is extremely well-maintained. During the warmer months, you can see kids setting up slip ‘n’ slides on the weekends and sliding down the spacious grassy knoll.

GT Fisher Nature Playground, Victor Harbor

We love how the play area caters for a variety of ages and certainly has something for everyone offering a range of adventures. For the older kids there are lots of climbing options and heaps of funky elements, sculptures and the like that inquisitive eyes will appreciate. For younger kids there’s lots of rocks and logs to balance on, ropes to climb and slides for all sizes.

Bindarra Reserve Playground, Brighton

This playground features a few different areas. The main equipment play space has been thought out really well and caters for a few different ages. It features lots of rope climbing obstacles , balancing rope stairs, swinging monkey bars and a slippery dip.

CC Hood Reserve, Panorama

At the heart of the upgrade is a thoughtfully designed play space featuring a flying fox, a huge multi-level play tower with slides, monkey bars, a “sand factory� for imaginative play, and a range of swings including toddler, basket, and duo options. The accessible roundabout and spring rockers ensure that children of all abilities can join the fun, while stepping pods add an extra challenge for confident climbers.

The multi-million dollar nature play space, forming part of SA’s newest national park, Glenthorne National Park opened in 2022 and the nature playground has it all, some of the wonderful playground features include; Multiple slides (including a HUGE tube slide tower), Swings galore, Inclusive inground roundabout, Pram friendly paths, Freestyle nature play (think build your own teepees), Toilets, shaded seating and BBQs, Sand play, Flying Fox and much, much more

Wilfred Taylor Nature Playspace, Morphett Vale

The junior space is fully fenced (YES!) and features a Hills to Beach creative sand and water play area and a play farm area complete with wooden tractor and sheep rockers. This area also has a number of different swings, slides, seesaw and lots of sensory hands on play that we LOVE

Naval Reserve Playground, Birkenhead

The 2022 upgrade to Naval Reserve out Port 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ way includes some fabulous playground equipment to challenge the bigger kids. Featuring a huge tower, which is a challenge to climb, with an attached tube slide, there is also a 3-3 basketball court and some swings and equipment for the smaller kids.

MJ McInerney Reserve, West Croydon

If your kids love slides, skate parks or shooting hoops……this is going to be their new favourite playground. We’re talking big slides, small slides, straight slides and one great big epic curly slide that is going to be VERY busy this weekend!

Roy Marten Park, Taperoo

The equipment is quite spread out and has been zoned for ages . You will find the toddler / little kids area under shade. It has been separated either side of the big red tower and features a pirate ship themed play equipment area featuring  slippery dip, a small climbing net, bouncy animals and lots lots more. Over in this area you will also see a swing swing set (inc baby swing ) along with a dual swing for babies and carers to use together.

Semaphore South Foreshore Playground

With plenty of equipment to satisfy even the most avid climbers, but also catering for the real young ones (and its fully fenced!), this is a fantastic alternative to the busy main foreshore precinct. Shaded, fully fenced and with a toilet, this is the perfect summer playground in our opinion!

The Square, West Beach

Set on the unique coastal precinct of West Beach Parks, it also includes a kiosk (Oceanique Kiosk), shelter, BBQ, shade, toilets and other amenities. It has a great little selection of swings and some inground trampolines that have just the right amount of spring in them and ample opportunity to run, balance and play, just meters from the beach.

Largs Bay Foreshore Playground

The Largs Bay foreshore play space redevelopment in 2024 brought to life an amazing concept which feels like came straight from the imagination of us as kids! This one is a very popular site with local and visiting families and the ice cream themed playground is sure to make it even more popular.

Wigley Reserve Playground, Glenelg

This playground is a sensational multi function playspace which will satisfy the climbers, the nature lovers, the jumpers, the exercising types and those who love a good swing. The highlight has to be the huge climbing structure which lets kids of all ages (thanks to really well designed safety netting) climb up nice and high and check out the incredible view of all the fancy expensive boats in the marina. They can either climb over the other side or slide down the huge twisty tube slide! Such fun!

Collins Reserve, Kidman Park

The second play equipment area located on the other side of the reserve is more suitable for the toddlers and kindy kids. This area has been added on and has the wooden look with a splash of colour amongst it. Featuring 2 slippery dips, swing set including baby swing , some climbing equipment including a rope net , small tunnel, games and my favourite the big green car. This area is mostly sheltered and is close to the tennis courts.

A ripping playground that is a must visit for a trip to the Bay, this spectacular looking playground overlooks the marina, with plenty of space to run and climb around on some epic equipment. Little Eatery is our go-to for any coffee trip down the bay, located a stones throw from the playground it just goes together perfectly we reckon!

Keith Stephenson Park and Sazon Espresso Mt Barker

Hills

Rebuilt in 2024, the fully fenced Keith Stephenson Park is the central playground for Mt Barker and within walking distance along the linear trail of Main Street, the home of Sazon Espresso. Fabulous coffee and a lovely historic building, check this one out next time you are up in the hills.

Largs Bay Ice Cream Playground/Kiosk

One of the best summer playgrounds around, the fabulous ice cream themed playground is a real hit thanks to its stunning design, but right smack bang next door is the Largs Bay Kiosk. Perfect for an ice cream or coffee to accompany the playground visit, with shaded seating and a fantastic view, what more could you want!

Bonython Park / Cafe Bonython

Is this the best coffee/playground combo in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½? It would have to be close. The beautiful and uber popular Bonython Park playground has been a staple for years, with recent upgrades making this one of the best play spaces around. Sounds pretty good on its own right? But with the newly opened Cafe Bonython right smack bang in the middle, this just makes it one of those destination playgrounds you travel far and wide for. Fabulous coffee, meals and service…one of hte best.

Heywood Park – Acai Affair King William Road

INNER EAST

Don’t miss this new stop on King William Road prior to making your way to Heywood Park for some ninja course fun! The coffee is fabulous and the frozen yoghurt and acai to die for. If your visit is over summer, be sure to drive the kids down ‘Cubby Street’ (its actually called Victoria Avenue – to day dream about the mansions and delight in the tunnel like tree foliage that fuly umbrella’s the road!

Steamroller Playground / Hokey Pokey

HILLS

A trip to Stirling is not complete without a visit to the famous Steamroller Playground, with the nearby Hokey Pokey the perfect spot for that caffeine hit. Yes it is an ice cream and chocolate shop, but the coffee is divine! The playground is fully fenced, perfect for the little crew, and its an ideal space to take in the hills serenity while the kids play. Beautiful in Autumn with the changing colours we must say!

James Coke Park / So close to the Parade

EAST

Talk about being spoilt for coffee options! James Coke Playground is about 9 metres from the Parade and an almost unlimited supply of options to get your coffee fix. Plenty of parking, shade and fencing, this is an ideal rest stop for your under 8s to run around while you take 5. Probably wouldn’t hurt to hit the shops after as well…because why not!

Old Noarlunga Market Square / Long Shot

SOUTH

We are spoilt for choice in the deep south, with gorgeous towns hosting picturesque playgrounds and nearby coffee options. Market Square playground at Old Noarlunga is a local fave, always packed with families hosting parties on the spacious lush lawns overlooking the Onkaparinga river. We love Long Shot Coffee, across the road from the playground, to compliment your day out here. Don’t forget to pack all the balls and enjoy chasing the kids on the lawns. It is a real beauty!

Twelftree Reserve / Fix Coffee

NORTH

A beautiful playground for the little crew, nestled amongst gorgeous grounds at College Park and on the banks of the Torrens river, we love combining our visits here with a trip to Fix (Specialty Coffee) across the road. Don’t forget to pack the basketball to use the small court and pop down for a walk along the Torrens after. A really lovely place to visit with the little tackers.

Dunstan Adventure Playground / Coffee Institute

EAST

Famous for its ‘huge slide from yester-year’, we only recently went back for a return visit at this eastern suburbs favourite, and it is still a fabulous spot. A short walk will find you at the Coffee Institute, which is definitely worth a go as you sit and watch the kids hurl themselves down the old bum-burner metal slide from your childhood.

Apex Park / Joan’s Pantry

HILLS

Just behind Blackwood, over the train line and around the bend is the famous combo of Joan’s Pantry and Apex Park Playground. A Hawthorndene favourite for years, the playground is a fully fenced beauty, with lots of equipment, a bike track, tennis courts and BMX jumps nearby. Joan’s Pantry is famous in these parts and you won’t find too many times where it isn’t busy with the hustle and bustle of locals and travellers stopping by. Definitely one of the top coffee/playground combos!

Glenside Playground / Commissary

This brand spanking new playground, tucked in the Cedarwoods development at Glenside, is hard to miss isn’t it! With striking bright colours and a giant climbing tower with tube slide, this is an older kids paradise. Our fave coffee spot here is the delightful Commissary, in the old Queen Victoria Hospital building just up the road. A famlily favourite place to eat, we highly recommend this combo!

Heron Playground / Boat Shed

SOUTH

Hows the serenity of this sensational playground, which overlooks some of the best coastline in the state. Located at the start of the Hallett Cove Boardwalk and next to the very popular Boatshed Cafe, this is one of our fave summer playgrounds. Don’t forget to leave time for a walk along the rocks for a spot of crabbing too!

A fabulous beachside playground located in one of the best coffee strips around. Find this playgound at the Esplanade at Brighton a stones throw from the uber popular .

Burnside Adventure Playground / Rustic Fig Cafe

EAST

This place is simply sensational. So much to see and explore, with one of the best double flying foxes around, the playground is a ripper. The perfect place to let the kids run around (there is a nearby creek so keep an eye on the smaller crowd) while you sit down to a cuppa….we love the Rustic Fig, located a street over, for your coffee option.

If you haven’t heard of this playground before, it is well worth checking out and planning a day trip.

Willunga Rose Garden / Tealiscious Cakes

SOUTH

Willunga is one of the most beautiful towns in our deep south, famous for its huge hill that causes all sorts of grief to the Tour Down Under crowd, as well as being home to a range of fab coffee spots. The Willunga Rose Garden nature playground opened a couple of years ago and is a beautiful play space that fits right in with the Willunga vibe. Our coffee pick is Tealiscious Cakes, right across the road from the playground (and you have our permission to pick up one or 9 of their cakes too!), which is the perfect coffee partner at this one.

Civic Park Playground / Pickled Duck

NORTH

This is easily one of the best playgrounds around and a coffee at Pickled Duck is just what you need. Ideal for all ages, with so much for all the kids to do (and parents too if you want to get amongst it), you will find Pickled Duck across the road and we just love the coffee here. Make sure you hit them up when you visit this epic playground up at Modbury.

Bridgewater Playground / The Grocer

HILLS

If you haven’t been to this stunning playground, lock in a date. It is sensational. With The Grocer coffee shop nearby, this space is just perfect for a playdate. Right next to the Bridgewater Inn, when the river is raging in winter and the kids can hop across on the stone bridge, is there aything more serene? We think not.

St Clair / Rec Centre Kiosk

WEST

Wow. Thats a phrase your kids will be shouting as you finish a visit to this newly developed precinct out the western suburbs. The rec centre cafe right next to the playground is a really good option here, not to mention the toilets and other facilities inside. The playgroud is epic, but this really is a hub of sporting and other activities that is well worth a look for not only an epic playground, but kids sport too.

Semaphore Foreshore / Steam Train Kiosk

WEST

Semaphore foreshore is one of the premiere beach destinations in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, and the playground is just as good! There is so much to see, do and explore around this playground with the family, but for a coffee hit we always hit up the kiosk right next door (also for ice creams…because it would be rude not too). If you aren’t a local this is well worth a day trip to explore with the kids.

This BRAND NEW playground is due for completion September 2025 and we have the first look at this new, ninja inspired playground!

This playground features a ninja-style urban warrior course alongside slides, a timber climb wall, flying fox, rocker, spinner and shop front.

You will also find new BBQs, shaded seating and a drinking fountain.

Burchell Reserve offers a quiet, fenced play space perfect for younger kids to explore and enjoy. While simple, the equipment is well-maintained and the surrounding reserve adds to its family appeal.

Key Features:

• Rope climber and swings
• In ground trampoline
• Spinner
• Tennis court
• Open grassy areas for free play or ball games

Also includes toilets and a BBQs, great for toddlers and preschoolers in a calm environment.

Archibald Reserve is a hidden gem with plenty to offer kids of all ages. This upgraded playground sits within a quiet park surrounded by open space and sporting facilities.

Key Features:

• Multi-level play structure with climbing walls and slides
• Flying fox
• Swings including an accessible seat
• Half basketball court and netball hoop nearby
• Small bike track adjacent to playground

This reserve is ideal for families with mixed-age children. Shaded picnic tables and plenty of open space make it easy to stay a while, though note that there are no toilets on-site.

This wonderful playground upgrade, completed in 2023, includes new adventure-themed play equipment, toilets, picnic and BBQ facilities and park furniture.

The Dunstan Adventure Playground is full of excellent equipment for adventurous kids. A lot of the equipment is aimed at older children though, so your kids will need to feel pretty confident, the slide is beyond huge and kids will need their balance for this play space as there is a lot of climbing opportunities. For the younger kids there’s still the normal climbing equipment, swings and monkey bars.

We love:

• The extra super-sized slide (one million of you will tell us ‘it gets too hot’ and we will answer, ‘go early in the morning’, all playgrounds honestly get hot, although more shade is always appreciated, it would be impossible to shade this epic slide)
• The suspended wobble footbridge
• The flying fox, because they are always a favourite
• Water Play
• Mini trampolines
• Gigantic swings

The playground is in a super location, right on a hill along the Linear Park trail, next to the River Torrens. Of course, this means you will have to be more careful when supervising as there is water close by. The park does offer some shady spots, grassed area, benches and picnic area. It’s also close to the O-Bahn rail for those bus/train obsessed children! Feeding the ducks on the Torrens is also an option (please oats or sultanas, never bread.)

Things to know:

• Slide can get hot on a hot day
• Careful supervision near the river needed
• Toilets are here now
• There is a lot of steep climbing that won’t suit toddlers
