AFL Max Skills School /aflmaxskillsschool/ /aflmaxskillsschool/#respond Thu, 24 Jul 2025 00:53:50 +0000 /?p=47512 If you’ve got a young footy fan at home bursting with energy and dreaming of greatness, AFL Max Skills School is the ultimate school holiday experience. Kids will get the chance to sharpen their kicking, fine-tune their handballing, and build confidence with expert guidance in a welcoming, high-energy environment.

It’s more than just drills – it’s a day of hands-on learning, muddy fun and footy memories that’ll stick. Whether your child is a beginner or already footy-mad, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from the pros.

Spots are limited, and with sibling offers available, now’s the time to book.

Find your nearest location and get set for a day of action, skill-building and footy fun at AFL Max Skills School.

Side note; Buz is COMPLETELY adorable and appears to be a much welcomed little team supporter at training and around the 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ Football Club. Actually, it felt like he was a bit of a star in his own right – he was pulling in a LOT of high fives and seemed loved and known to all of the AFC staff and players.

We love the AFLW and all that it stands for. Read on for our short interview with Courtney on all things footy, balance and Mum life. Then get your self down to Richmond Oval (now called Hisense Stadium they tell me….) for a home game this season! It’s a perfect FREE family outing and there are home games on Sunday 1st March, Sunday 15th March and Sunday 29th March 2020.

Parent review from Sue

Sue recently sent her two daughters to the AFL Max Skills School and here is what she had to say about the program.

“When your day is lead off with 2 AFL captains, you just know this will be something elite. Jordan Dawson and Rory Sloan were so engaging, upbeat and inclusive as they kicked off the clinic, aimed at 6-12 year old kids.

All kids are put through their paces as they arrive to ensure they get grouped with kids of similar abilities, it was great to also see friendship groups were catered for, let’s be honest sport is meant to be fun, right?!!

Early sessions focused on the focus word of the day “CARE” this was care in leadership, care for others and care for yourselves. Hearing safety on the ground discussed with kids was fantastic as head safety was paramount in learning skills correctly and safely. This was reinforced right across the day by all.

Great positive messaging!

As the day progressed, across 4 quarters of activities, the kids ended up rotating across many stations of ranging activities that rounded out in a variety if football games at the end that were reinforcing the skills learned earlier. The kids didn’t even realise these learning progressions they were receiving- they were too busy having fun!

Prizes were given away to kids who demonstrated the focus of CARE and RESPECT and LISTENING, which is wonderful to see such values reinforced.

After 6 hours of footy, fun, friendship and time with their heroes, there’s absolutely no doubt kids will be home, exhausted and inspired to be tomorrow’s little superstars! “

Mini Max at AFL Max /mini-max-at-afl-max/ /mini-max-at-afl-max/#respond Sun, 29 Jun 2025 06:29:34 +0000 /?p=121806 If you have a 2 to 5 year old who loves footy, or just being active, then do we have something for you!

AFL Max is a world class facility out at the airport, we all know that. But our now 4yo has for the past few years been spending Sunday mornings at a 45 minute structured fundamental movement skill sessions….Mini Max! Yes footy played a key theme but it is just a small part in what will become a standard part of our weeks moving forward.

We have taken little Jack to 3 terms now and waking up to head to ‘footy school’ on a Sunday is easily one of the favourite parts of our week. The class sizes tend to be a bit smaller on a Sunday, which works great for us, and watching his skills develop through each term has been a joy to watch. Get in a few minutes early to have a casual kick to kick (and for the parents, punt a few sausage rolls and reminisce about how you would have made AFL if you didn’t do your knee in Under 18s) before class starts and then from there, it is on!

(Kia Dad Tim)

Let’s run through what is on offer here. For the 2-5 year olds, held every day apart from Wednesday, these sessions will see your little tyke in small groups running through a new movement or skill each week, led by coaches (shout out to Coach Cleo…you are a legend!) who have an innate ability to herd rampaging 2 year olds like some sort of toddler whisperer. From running to catching to kicking to balancing, using all of the facilities at AFL Max (the inflatables and tramps are a favourite of course), the sessions were low stress, fun and a fabulous fun way to start the day.

Each session is well structured and great fun, with the end of week the kids getting to place a little footy sticker against their name on the honour wall. A nice little touch which gave the kids a sense of accomplishment each week. Now don’t stress if your 2 year old struggles to pay attention, ours certainly had periods over the years when he lacked a bit of focus and just wanted to run around and chase invisible butterflies, but that is half the fun here, because they provide a zero stress environment and are great at encouraging all kids to get back involved if they want a few moments away from the group.

The terms run alongside the school terms throughout the school year and at the end of each term the kids get to graduate with their own little certificate! Did we mention that it is not just encouraged that parents and care givers get involved but it is HIGHLY encouraged! Wear your activewear, whack on some sneakers and get amongst it with your little ones in what might be your favourite toddler class you will ever do.

Sessions individually run at $23 or you can book a whole term of 8 classes for $166.50. Don’t forget to grab some merch, with T-shirts and caps available, as well as mini footys to practice at home. Mini Max sessions are held in the mornings.

91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ Learn to Swim /adelaide-learn-to-swim/ /adelaide-learn-to-swim/#respond Wed, 28 Aug 2024 04:52:20 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=44373 Swimming is a life skill. Enrolling your kids in lessons is all about education and teaching them a skill that one day might save their life.

The sad truth…
In 2024, 323 people drowned in Australian waters. Children aged 5-14 years reported a 30% increase. Most drowning deaths in this age group resulted from an unintentional fall into water, reinforcing the need for swimming and water safety skills and knowledge to assist in unexpected situations. Take a look at the 2024 National Drowning Report

These statistics are a confronting reminder for parents to be vigilant by remembering a number of simple guidelines:
– Active adult supervision around water
– Making sure home pools are properly fenced
– Taking children to water familiarisation classes and swimming lessons

The good bits…
5 reasons your children should learn to swim:
– Lessons provide your kids with confidence, which is great for self-esteem
– Your child will learn about water safety in and around water
– Swimming is a great way to exercise
– Earlier development of physical skills including hand-eye coordination and muscle tone
– Enhances social and personal skills

Swimming lessons are also extremely beneficial for children over the age of five as it enhances their knowledge of safety around water as well furthering their skills and stroke development.
The good news too is that generally from the age of about three, the parents and carers don’t need to get in the pool. Until then, be the champion that puts your child’s safety first and jump in that pool!

Below are some of the places in 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ you can enrol your kids into Learn to Swim programs. Most starting from the age of 6 months right up to squad swimming. Click each venues website for more information.
