The 2024 improvements at Glenelg Oval not only include a playground, but also with new soccer goals, a basketball court and exercise equipment. The playground forms part of a larger development to the area which includes enhanced spectator viewing to the main oval and new public toilets. A great spot to watch the footy and allow the younger kids to have a play? How good is that!
The Margaret Messenger Reserve updates see adult fitness equipment, an upgraded 3×3 basketball court, grassed area and BBQ with shelter and seating all adding great value to a very popular Glenelg hotspot.
The upgrades will allow for easy access from Margaret Messenger Reserve to the new oval playground and public toilets through the plaza entrance off Rugless Terrace.

First thing you notice when you pull up to this reserve is the brightly coloured modern play equipment along with the huge grassed area. Whilst the play equipment isn’t huge it has been well thought out to cater for a few different ages. The toddlers and smaller children can enjoy the swings which include a baby swing, slippery dip, bouncy ladybird and small climbing wall. The bigger kids can use the giant climbing spider web that sits a little away from the the play equipment or even enjoy a game of noughts and crosses which can be found on the play equipment. Once everyone has had enough of the equipment there is plenty of grassed area to run around on, kick balls or just enjoy a family picnic . There is also a tennis court as part of the Golflands reserve. Whilst the area near the play equipment has a fence the entire reserve isn’t totally fenced off. Unfortunately there is no shade over the play equipment but several trees you could utilise to sit under for shade if you stopped for a picnic or BBQ . This local playground /park is suitable for a mixture of age groups however the play equipment only caters for toddlers. The equipment features a small swing set including baby swing, 2 small slippery dips , a swinging hammock , climbing area and a couple of small play equipment. Half the area is covered by shade .What is great about this park/reserve is that the play equipment area is fenced off, has a good size grassed area and a half key basketball court. Within this area you also have the use of toilets and BBQ facilities. What I also like about this park is that outside the fenced playground area you also have the use of tennis courts and for the pooch lovers there is a huge dog park /sports field. It even has off street parking. Why not bring the family, put a sausage on the BBQ, have a hit of tennis or try for a slam dunk on the basketball key whilst you also get to keep the pooch happy at the dog park. Find it at Burkett Drive, Strathalbyn Forrest nature Reserve Playspace features a large expanse of grass perfect for ball games, although there is no fencing between the park and the quiet suburban streets. There is a fantastic twin flying fox that will keep the kids amused for hours! The playground features one covered and one uncovered slide, a large wooden boat, and a pair of swings. Large boulders and a large log and tree have been turned into a fun, natural playspace. Lovely wood carvings surround one of the picnic tables. There is a large sandpit where you can dig to uncover the “dinosaurâ€, sure to keep little ones amused. There is a little bike track great for small riders. There are picnic tables in tree shade but there is little cover in inclement weather. Outside of school hours the most convenient parking is at the adjacent kindergarten, otherwise street parking is available. There are no toilets on site and there is no wheelchair access to any of the equipment or tables.
