Half of the Kids in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ team pinked up and went out to see the Barbie movie this weekend.
The youngest is 8 years old, the oldest is….. (don’t worry we’ll keep that a secret Nanna)
We’ve all had different opinions on it. No one hated it, most of us loved it, a couple of us thought it was good but not as great as was hoped, and isn’t that in itself actually just brilliant.
We’ve all been out with our families this weekend, to see a movie on the big screen at the cinema (and not at home) and afterwards we’ve all had pretty robust convos about it. Why we liked it, why we didn’t, asked questions, gave opinions.Â
Well played Barbie……well played.
Without giving away any spoilers this movie was not the story I thought it was going to be;
– It’s bigger
– It’s more thought provoking
– It’s more relatable (sometimes unfortunately)

I laughed…..many times, I bopped along in my seat, I felt like my eyes almost popped out of my head a few times and I reckon a little pink glimmering tear welled at one point too.
I loved the visual feast this movie is but also appreciated the very clever way this movie discusses the patriarchy, body image, relationships, gender roles, friendships and feminism. I really enjoyed it, but I also know that some people will be uncomfortable with it……..Like I literally can list the people I know will be uncomfortable with it, but I think that’s a great thing. They need to go see it and let it make them feel uncomfortable, and then talk to their kids about it after.

Kids aged 8 – 12ish will love this movie for the sheer Barbie-ness of it. The sets, the costumes, the characters, the songs and the most epic Ken dance off E-V-E-R. It’s so over the top and so entertaining. Miss 11 and her friends said they thought it was “SO MUCH FUN” and loved the whole afternoon out.
I also thoroughly enjoyed the walk down Barbie’s very pink memory lane and “Weird Barbie†will be one character surely everyone has their own story about. We sure do…… 👇ðŸ¼
Kids any younger just won’t get it. There’s really nothing offensive or inappropriate in the movie….unless you’re the kind of parent who doesn’t like to use the words vagina and penis out loud and if that’s the case, well let’s just say that you and your child probably won’t get the Barbie experience you’re hoping for from this movie. It’s also a solid 2 hours (or very close to). I’m sure some younger ones will sit through it, but no way my 5 year old (even though she’s a Barbie super fan) would. Go see it with your adults friends instead.
In short, I think;
💗Greta Gerwig is a movie making master.
💗Ryan Gosling is utterly utterly Kentastic. A true ten.
💗Allan was a complete mystery to me, but gosh I loved him.
💗And Margot, oh Margot you and your perfectly arched feet bloody nailed it.
Just go see it. At the very least it’s fantastically FUN with a capital F (or B) and a joy for the eyeballs, but it’s also a story about much much more than that.

After tearing our way through the best family films of the 80s and 90s, it is time for the best family movies of the 00s that your kids need to see. Ah the 2000s. What a decade. We somehow survived the Millennium Bug just in time to carve it up at The Planet and Joplins, or was Time Warp at Heaven more your thing? A few of the KiA Team are 80s kids and and it is essential to introduce our kids to the best movies from the 80s that we grew up with. No excuses now. Right so where do we start. Here is my top 11 Fam movies of the 80s. 11) The Garbage Pail Kids - I put this on here because it is absolutely mind blowing what was classed as kids entertainment back in the 80s. How on earth did I turn out so well? I don’t even know how to describe this. How was it ever made? Kid finds weird garbage bin friends and they do stuff. Shut up and take my money. 10) Willow - Truly weird AF when you look back at it.
