Christies Beach Hotel

Located on Gulf View Road at Christies Beach, south of the city, this pub has had mega bucks spent on it in recent times and has to be among the prettiest hotels in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½. Offering a huge beer garden with various indoor and outdoor seating, the real star is the massive outdoor playground suitable for bigger kids. They also run kids club activities here during the term for pre school aged kids, and the food is hands down some of our favourite nosh! You will also find a cinema room and an ice cream machine. That’s a win. Worth the drive south.

Rising Sun Hotel, Port Wakefield

Port Wakefield you say? YEP. This one deserves a spot near the top of our list for the road trippers! It’s epic. The food is unreal (think pub food and also some incredible Asian fusion) and the ‘backyard’ is on steroids. Huge lawn, creative playground with swings and shipping containers and a digger, boat and sand pit. Your well behaved doggos are welcome and this is just the ultimate alternative to stopping for greasy roadhouse food, families love it.

Mick O’sheas Hotel, Hackham

Mick O’Shea’s has had a serious glow-up, and it’s officially stepped into its â€œultimate family hangoutâ€� era. The refreshed beer garden, brand-new outdoor bar and expanded pavilion have given the place a breezy, holiday-afternoon vibe while still keeping all the cosy charm of a classic Irish pub. Inside, you’ll still find the warm hospitality and hearty pub meals you know and love, but outside is where the magic happens. Ok so this pub is always impressive for families. With the Bridgewater playground just nextdoor, the actual ultimate is the nature play in and around the creek, right by the outdoor tables! Kids require a high level of supervision as always around water, and honestly, take a change of clothes or a towel if you are really going to let them get into it! think stepping stones, sticks and a running stream. Its a fabulous kids menu here and the new all weather pavillion is just something else in all seasons. Family friendly pubs dont come much better than this one.

Shelly’s, Semaphore South

10/10 for toddler tapas, the food and coffee here, the dinners on a Friday and Sunday evening and the fully fenced epic playground on the doorstep. Shelly’s ticks so many boxes for families. There is both indoor and outdoor dining, beach access, the Semaphore Steam Train comes by and the whole experience is just a vibe. Even in winter, this place is it! Rug up and come for a hot chocolate or a long brunch. The kids will not complain, guenteed! This one is licenced too……sneaky sunset beverage and let the kids blow off some steam any one?

Village Grounds Cafe, Alberton

The Village Grounds Cafe is a hidden gem for families with little ones, open Tuesdays and Wednesdays and perfect for a relaxed, low-cost outing. It serves light snacks and epic babycchinos, with both indoor and outdoor play spaces ideal for toddlers and preschoolers. Community-run and wonderfully welcoming, it also features a brilliant pre-loved clothing section, and it’s an easy walk from the nearby Alberton railway station, making it as convenient as it is charming.

The wines are small batch and distinctive. Made with a whole lot of gentle love and nurturing by award winning winemaker Michael Sexton. They are vibrant and bright and celebrate the authentic naturally occurring characters of each variety and vintage.

The cellar door was undoubtedly designed with families in mind, offering a quality, creative and delicious kids’ lunch option that will keep little people happy. You can’t go wrong with crispy real chicken bites and hand cut fries, served with a cute fun sized chocolate on the side, plus these meals come with a juice box and the serving is big enough for bigger kids too.

Now, don’t expect the kids to sit around for too long – ours couldn’t keep away from the friendly donkey’s, they also danced and played games on the lawns, took Uno out to one of the picnic rugs, enjoyed spotting ducks and also bombed around with other kids for some winery lawn community fun.

When it comes to outdoor space, Main and Cherry Cellar Door truly shines. There’s plenty of room for kids to burn around and be kids, out of the way and with in sight, making it easy for parents to relax with a glass of wine while their little ones play safely. The picturesque grounds are ideal for a laid-back afternoon. Adding to the welcoming vibe, Main and Cherry also hosts a great line-up of acoustic musicians, creating a lively yet relaxed atmosphere perfect for a family outing. Check their for details.

It was only upon departure that we realized they also offer craft beers, so we did the right thing and took a four-pack home to enjoy later!

Woodstock is a beautiful family owned estate in McLaren Vale and it ticks more boxes than most wineries to be honest. It’s the first winery we think of in McLaren Vale – probably because we have been coming here since we were kids ourselves.

The wines are great, yes, but this place goes beyond the normal cellar door to include some child-friendly surprises as well, and recently there have been some beautiful upgrades. The cellar door has moved into a much larger space (previously The Coterie) and now provides ample room to sit in comfortable lounges or in small groups at high tables for seated guided tastings. The outlook to the garden in every direction is exquisite. This does mean the food offering has significantly changed at Woodstock. In The Stocks Tasting Room, you can simply do guided, seated tastings, and also enjoy a light snack such as a cheese platter. The lawns are where its at on weekends for food, with a Gin Long Canteen pop up that will leave your tastebuds exploding! AND how about the new onsite Trilby’s Chocolate Door?

The hours for lunch on the lawns change a bit seasonally and the team from Gin Long Canteen will look after you well. Shaded lawns and picnic rugs in the warmer months and cosy tables in the winter pavillion when its cooler. The menu features favourite dishes from Gin Long’s flagship restaurant in North 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, along with some exciting new additions. Designed for sharing and perfect alongside a glass of Woodstock wine. It’s casual and delicious.

Now the grounds are nothing short of expansive and spectacular. Shady grassed areas and dozens of tucked-away spots, all perfect for whiling away a few hours. The kids loved running around the lawn playing hide-and-seek behind the trees and the playground has been moved and it’s just perfect. Outdoor games, a gorgeous big water tank mural and flourishing kitchen garden reward families who explore the grounds (with a glass of wine in hand, of course). 

While you enjoy a sip of their delicious Grenache (or maybe if you are a sweet tooth go and check out Trilby’s! Your kids will have plenty of entertainment options at the winery. The highlight, we think, should be the Woodstock Wildlife Sanctuary. If just for that, it is worth a trip. Book it to ensure your place, start with this and then move to the cellar door. Nestled on approximately 3 hectares of natural vegetation, the sanctuary houses a group of rescued Western Grey Kangaroos, some wallabies and a couple of friendly emu’s named Maverick and lets say Goose (it was definitely from Top Gun, it’s got to be Goose right?)

For a small fee that remains at $5 for all ages, you can hand feed and pat the kangaroos. The animals are very used to people. Leave your strollers and prams at the gate, and know that kids under 18yo do need to be accompanied by a paying adult. The tranquil surroundings are scattered with soaring eucalyptus trees, and if you look up, you may even spot a koala – a treat we have been lucky enough to witness. It’s all pretty amazing!

After the kangaroo feeding settle in for a delightful wine tasting while watching the kids have a blast on the playground. Seated tastings are available every day from 11am to 4pm for a fee of $15, which includes a sampling of six wines.

We can’t wait to return in Spring and enjoy the new upgraded outdoor areas.

Woodstock also have some brilliant annual events worth keeping an eye on – we particularly love their annual Family Fun Day (June long weekend) and no doubt they have something in store for Father’s Day in a few weeks time.

Woodstock Wine Estate is bursting with pride, a love of the land, and an immense joy of sharing it with others. Be prepared to fall in love with it just as we do time after time.

Our tip: Book a kangaroo feeding session followed by a tasting. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes early so you don’t hold the group up. Then, let the kids loose on the playground and lawns while you enjoy a wine tasting or simply a bottle of wine and cheese platter under a shady tree!

We are so thrilled to see what was always an iconic part of the Semaphore community redeveloped and reopen in 2025 and still going strong today! The magnificent upgraded Semaphore South playground and iconic Semaphore Steam Train (which runs on every Sunday + public holidays in October to April + daily in school holidays October to April except Tuesdays and Thursdays) are smack bang on the doorstep too. This place really does have it all going on.

This charming kiosk serves as the perfect pit stop for both kids and parents. have nailed the game changer of all hair brushes and genuinely, I am happy to tell you that the Kids in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ team LOVE these seemingly magical kids detangling hair brushes. Animal welfare is at the heart of everything they do here, and it shows, these are deeply loved, well-cared-for, HAPPY donkeys who are relaxed, curious and comfortable around families. Hearing how Donkey Discovery has evolved, and learning about each donkey’s personality, adds a beautiful educational layer to the experience; and man do they ever have their own hilarious individual personalities. The kids loved hearing about these and witnessing it. They left feeling like they really knew the animals and had connected with them, it’s very special.

Some other highlights for all of us were walking with the donkeys, watching them play and interact with each other and also the opportunity to snap the cutest photos of them wearing headbands (yes, they genuinely seemed to love it!) Then there was Sunny, a three-week-old baby donkey, who completely stole our hearts. Fluffy, fuzzy and impossibly cute, Sunny was a huge hit and made this 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Hills animal experience feel even more unforgettable.

The two-hour session finishes with a delicious morning or afternoon tea, perfect for families. Expect warm scones, tea and coffee, and incredible homemade biscuits (a mix of ANZAC and Turkish apricot flavours) fittingly named Gallipoli biscuits.

The cost is: Adults $110, Kids (2–14 years) $55 and private family sessions and special event appearances can be arranged and are charged accordingly, on application and subject to availability. An investment well worth every cent.

Inside, there’s loads of flexible seating to suit families of all sizes, including big round tables for groups, booths, standard tables, a large bar and a big screen projector. High chairs are available, and there’s even a small indoor kids’ play area with train sets, a play kitchen, games, Uno and colouring (pencils and paper supplied, yes please!) The menu seals the deal for families. There’s a kids menu for $15 including a pop-top juice, with the pasta with sauce being a clear favourite in our crew, fresh, simple and absolutely devoured. The bruschetta and fresh salads were also big winners, and grown-ups will love the fun cocktail list, especially the new Algae Bloom cocktail with its sea-foam look and delicious taste. Add in a gelato bar for dessert and you’ve got a beachside family meal that’s easy, fun and totally kid-approved.

With locations in both Hyde Park and the 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ CBD, this place is all about fantastic quality pizza made with proper ingredients and loads of flavour. But the real show-stopper? Their iconic 1-metre-long pizza. Yes, one whole metre of pizza goodness, served up and made for sharing. It’s perfect for families, brilliant for group dinners, and 100% kid-approved (because let’s be honest, kids lose their minds when pizza arrives that long). Crispy, cheesy, generously topped and just downright yum, this is one of those 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ food experiences you really have to try at least once. 

Hit up this retro vibe venue for the best pizzas that we can find on Henley Beach Road! Take away or kick back in the restaurant with a cocktail or two. Chicco’s are open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. It’s also become quite the on fleek venue for private hires and last thing, their take home pizza making kits are an absolute hit with the kids. Pick one up these school holidays.

Watch your pizza bubble away in the huge wood oven, perfectly located on Seaview Road near the corner of Henley Square, pick one up after a day at the beach. The toppings are fresh, the base is a gorgeous sourdough and you’ll be lucky to find pizza better than this any where this side of Italy! Check out their Wednesday night $33 all you can eat, dine in special.

Step into Avellino Pizza at Greenacres, nestled in the cosy plant shed of Flavio Outdoor, and you’ll find yourself in a world where pizza and plants collide in the most delightful way. Rustic tables surrounded by lush greenery, sunlight peeking through the foliage, and the irresistible scent of wood-fired pizza lingering in the air – honestly this place is a hidden gem and one we are so happy we stumbled across. Their delicious pizzas are the real deal, with that perfect combo of soft crust and flavourful toppings that’ll have you coming back for more. Open for both dine-in and takeaway from Thursday to Sunday, with wonderful staff and a fully licensed bar, Avellino Pizza is the ultimate spot whether you’re out with the family or enjoying a romantic night out.

Attention Northerners! This delicious mystery is one we insist you HAVE to check out. With no option to dine in, or phone an order through, the only way to order these adequately hyped New York style thin pizzas or Detroit style pan pizzas, is via Uber Eats or rock up and order over the counter. But wait, it gets even more artisan and illusive than that! You can only get your pizza eating lips around one of these on a Friday or Sunday night. We had heard the whispers and the hype for these excellent slices and they were every thing we hoped for and more. The menu is not complicated and the quality is fantastic. Don’t pass up the opportunity to order the garlic knots either, because that in itself would be a crime.

Amazing pizza with a million-dollar view? Yes please. Beach Road Wines nails the family trifecta — incredible wood-fired pizzas, relaxed kid-friendly vibes, and seriously good wine for the adults. Kids can stretch their legs while parents soak up the views with a glass in hand, making it one of those rare spots where everyone wins. Pizza + views + wine = WIN

Aldgate Pump Hotel

This beautiful historic family run 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Hills pub is a complete surprise package. Could this be the best pizza in the hills? They are surely a hot contender with the ever impressive huge Italian wood fire oven.

The kids will love it here with a large beer garden and a playground out the back.

Every night is pizza night at the Aldgate Pump Hotel, but Monday nights are $15 PIZZAS from 4pm to 7pm and you simply can’t beat that for value.

Make sure you book, especially in these busier months.

If you haven’t jumped on 91¹û¶³´«Ã½’s One Sneaky Cheetah bandwagon yet, do you even love pizza? They now have FOUR venues operating, Melrose Park, Ridleyton, Stepney and Campbelltown. They also pop up at 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ best events!

Made from scratch, hand stretched, wood fired and ready fast – these pizzas are big, simple and completely delicious. Our kids LOVE them and love the ‘Garlic Cheetah Tails’ equally. The venues are fun, you can play pinball while you wait (will be a quick game we tell you) and have a gelato if you eat your crusts!

Doughballs

Never been to Doughballs? You are missing out one of the best family friendly food options around! With their popular Moseley Square location down at Glenelg and now with a new spot out at Mawson Lakes, you are never far from tasting some of the insanely more-ish, delicate balls of pizza goodness.

We highly recommend testing out both the savoury and dessert doughball options, and their traditional pizzas are top shelf too! So what are you waiting for? Book in that return visit or get on down there for the first time…you can thank us later.

Smiling Samoyed Brewery

Pizza and Beer. Beer and Pizza. They kinda’ go hand in hand right?…

This family owned brewery are dishing out the goods at Myponga with a selection of mouth watering wood oven pizzas. Made using SA Lauke flour which is fermentated for a minimum of three days to give it a delicious depth of flavour, these 11 inch bad boys are the real deal. Thin crusts baked to perfection and although they’re made to be shared, polishing one off on your own is just too damn easy! 

Our top pick: Chilli Chorizo Pizza – OMG!

Excellent, consistent ‘suburban’ pizza? We got you. You absolutely know when a business has been around for over 20 years, they are getting it right. Dough that’s prepared daily with quality Italian 00 flour, olive oil, authenticity and love make this takeaway experience a tasty one that you will love.

If wood oven pizza isn’t for you? This is your place.

Here is a small family business, making damn fine pizza, that give and give and give to their local community. We see them feeding people and pumping up and supporting other businesses all of the time. There is always a good value deal here and the pizza is fresh, authentic great quality and honestly, an absolute bargain. Find them at 414 Milne Road, Redwood Park. Try their famous YIROS pizza!

 

The pizza pie you never knew you needed – until now! A deep, stuffed, thick foccacia loaded with the most delcious ( and ethically sourced we might just add) ingredients. The ‘Pina Babe’ loaded with pork belly and pickled pineapple was our favourite pizza pie of the night. Not to mention a gluten-free base that actually tasted SO good! 

Pie Square is located right in the heart of the CBD in the coolest venue. Think coffee at the front, party at the back, with intimate rooms and private nooks everywhere! Open Wednesday through to Saturday 4-9pm. With open mic and music events to come, this is definetly a venue with a vibe!

Ember Pizza

Ah the Barossa, how lucky are we to have such incredible mouth watering restaurants in this famous region, but still easy driving distance from the city. For that special pizza experience, you cannot go past Ember Pizza. Located in the heart of Nuriootpa in a lovely old Penfolds building that presents as a hub of eclectic, genuine Barossa food, beverage and tourism experiences.

A must do if you are travelling with others, as there is bound to be something here that is sure to please every one, including food and a decent lawn + indoor or outdoor dining, perfet with the kids! The venue, service and menu options (heavily weighted with local fare) provided us with the casual sophistication that we were chasing for our Barossa (with kids) experience. Equally it offered space, a cracking uncomplicated kids menu PLUS an activity or two to keep them occupied while the adults confirmed our weekend itineraries over a wine (of course.)

Gepetto’s Pizzas in Hahndorf is bursting with flavour and personality just like it’s incredibly vibrant owner who clearly pours her heart and soul into every pizza.
We had ours delivered straight to our cabin at Discovery Parks Hahndorf (yes, free delivery ) and it was the ultimate cosy night-in treat. But honestly, if the pizzas taste this good off-site, the restaurant on Hahndorf’s main street, Gepetto’s Pizzas, looks absolutely incredible and full of buzz. Big flavours, big energy, and exactly the kind of place that makes Hahndorf such a vibe. 11/10.

Pizza Lola has made a name itself as one of 91¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s best pizzerias, blending traditional Neapolitan techniques with a fresh, playful approach. This fun and family friendly space on Goodwood Road is complete with an amazing imported pizza oven. While staying true to tradition, Pizza Lola isn’t afraid to break the rules, offering generous toppings and unique takes on classics. Make sure to head in regularly to try out their monthly specials, we got to try their delicious pork and fennel sausage special.

If you’re looking for a venue for you next function, Pizza Lola do not charge a venue hire fee and they have the perfect space with free arcade machines, foosball table, a bar and plenty of room for kids to run around. With its cool aesthetic, welcoming vibe, and growing cult following, Pizza Lola is a must-visit for pizza lovers. Open Wed-Sun, 5 PM till late.

Grunthal Brew Deep Dish Pizza’s

The deep dish pizzas at Grunthal Brew are next-level comfort food – thick, cheesy, generously topped and absolutely worth the hype. Add in the huge, exciting outdoor play space for kids (think room to roam, explore and burn off energy) and you’ve got a total family win. Parents can relax with a drink, kids can play freely, and on Friday nights the all-you-can-eat pizza deal takes things to legendary status. Come hungry, bring the kids, and settle in for one of those nights where everyone leaves happy.
