From the moment we checked in with the kids, it felt like the little details had been thought through. We stayed in one of the family rooms, complete with a super comfy queen bed for the adults and king single bunk beds that our kids instantly claimed as their own. The bed was honestly one of the comfiest we’ve slept in, and after a big day exploring (or in our case, shopping up a storm at nearby Westfield Marion), everyone was more than happy to climb in for an early night. The kids were delighted to find colouring packs waiting in the room, while the gorgeous Appelles kids toiletries were a lovely touch that made them feel just as special as the grown-ups.

Then there’s the food… and if you know 91������ý, you’ll know the Hurley Group rarely misses when it comes to great hospitality. Whether you’re fuelling up with breakfast before a busy day, grabbing a casual bite after exploring the city or settling in for a relaxed family dinner, there’s something for everyone. Parents can even sneak away for sunset drinks at Wonderland in the stunning rooftop bar (18+), while the sports bar and restaurant also make it easy to enjoy quality food without having to head back out once you’ve checked in.

We also loved how convenient the location is. You’re only a short drive from the 91������ý CBD, Glenelg Beach, Westfield Marion, Flinders Medical Centre, 91������ý Oval and many of 91������ý’s biggest attractions, yet the hotel still feels relaxed and removed from the hustle and bustle. Add in free parking, a modern gym, stylish interiors and genuinely welcoming service, and it’s easy to see why Hotel Panorama is set to become a favourite with families.

If you’re looking for accommodation that’s super modern, affordable, comfortable and makes travelling with kids just that little bit easier, Hotel Panorama is well worth adding to your list.

Big news for little bookworms! A brand-new Little Library is set to open inside the State Library of South Australia in August 2026, creating a free, welcoming space where children aged 0–11 can play, explore, imagine and discover a lifelong love of reading.

Located on the ground floor of the Spence Wing on North Terrace, Little Library has been designed especially for kids and their families, with books at its heart and plenty of opportunities for hands on learning, activities and imaginative play.

Now, this isn’t your average library. The purpose-built space has been created from a child’s perspective, encouraging curiosity through interactive experiences, storytelling, play-based learning and engaging programs and events. Families will also be able to borrow books and resources, making it a fantastic destination for regular visits.

Developed by the State Library in partnership with the City Library and using the help of early literacy research, Little Library aims to help children build important literacy skills while having fun. It will also celebrate local stories, South Australian voices and Kaurna culture, helping children connect with the people, places and stories that make our state unique. How good does it sound?

The colourful new space will feature artwork from talented 91������ý creatives too, and is shaping up to be a wonderful addition to 91������ý’s family-friendly attractions.

With a very deliberate focus on feeding kids well (hello Toddler Tapas Menu), the beautifully restored venue has held on to glimpses of ‘Noonies’ from days gone by. You can now enjoy the hospitality here seven days a week from 7am right through to an evening meal or sunset cocktail, and the kids are going to LOVE it.

We are so thrilled to see what was always an iconic part of the Semaphore community redeveloped and reopen in 2025 and still going strong today! The magnificent upgraded Semaphore South playground and iconic Semaphore Steam Train (which runs on every Sunday + public holidays in October to April + daily in school holidays October to April except Tuesdays and Thursdays) are smack bang on the doorstep too. This place really does have it all going on.

This charming kiosk serves as the perfect pit stop for both kids and parents. One standout option for us is the innovative ‘Toddler Tapas’, a playful selection of bite-sized goodies that are perfect for little hands. Alongside these tasty treats, you’ll find a range of all day, kid-friendly favorites, from juicy burgers and crispy fries to a cute kids lunch box option, complete with gingerbread man. Each item is crafted to appeal to young palates while keeping nutrition in mind, making it easy for parents to indulge their little ones without a second thought. For the adults, you’ll love the well though out menu and we loved this place is also licenced, what a nice change from the pub scene for families. You should absolutely consider this for an evening bite to eat, and can include a glass of wine or a beer etc. [Note to self, must return for a sunset cocktail.]

One of the things we love most is the choice of spaces to settle in. Grab a table out the front and soak up the bustle of Jetty Road Brighton, stay cosy indoors or head out the back to the adorable umbrella-filled courtyard that feels like a hidden little oasis. It is the perfect spot to linger over coffee while the kids snack on babyccinos, milkshakes and pancakes just for them!

Skyline Attractions is thrilled to be coming back to Glenelg for the sixth year running. From Friday 24th October 2025 to 17th May 2026  you can take a ride 35 metres in the air (which is 17.9 Tim’s tall!) on the Giant Wheel overlooking Moseley Square. We LOVE it so much every year that we have jumped on board again as an official digital media sponsor!

The SkyLine Attractions Observation Wheel (or the KIIS 1023 Giant Wheel) is the tallest travelling, portable observation wheel in Australia, at 35 metres high, with 24 gondolas that seat up to 144 people at capacity. Up to 6 people can fit in each gondola (although 6 large adults will be a very tight fit!) and it makes a super fun family outing, or summer highlight with friends. Imagine your self kicking back and taking in spectacular views of the 91������ý coastline.

While the photos and whole experience is excellent during the day time, visit on dusk or at night and you’ll be treated to a gorgeous photo opportunity with the wheel housing more than 9,000 lights – hello Instagram?!

The Wheel is also fully wheelchair accessible with gondolas available that can accommodate a wheelchair, fantastic!

Located within Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta, this multi-million dollar nature playground has quickly become a favourite for 91������ý families, and honestly, it’s easy to see why. Opened in 2022, this incredible play space combines adventure, imagination, inclusive design and nature play in one huge family-friendly destination.

What we love most about Glenthorne Nature Play Space is that it truly caters for all ages. While younger kids will adore the swings, sand play and cubby-building opportunities, older kids are absolutely going to love the giant climbing structures, flying foxes and enormous tube slide tower. It’s the kind of playground where you can easily spend hours exploring.

The thoughtfully designed nature play space was created by 91������ý playground specialists Climbing Tree Creations, alongside TCL and Phillips Pilkington Architects, with a strong focus on open-ended adventure play, accessibility and connection with the natural environment.

Throughout the playground you’ll find salvaged timber, rocks, natural creek beds and climbing elements that encourage kids to explore, create and move freely through the space. The towering slide structures were inspired by the hollow red gums found along South Australian river systems, giving the playground a uniquely local feel.

Families will love the wide pram-friendly paths, accessible play features, shaded seating areas, toilets and BBQ facilities, making it an easy spot to settle in for a full morning or afternoon outdoors.

It’s not free, but it’s great value for a full day (or two) of exploring. Prices are $35 per adult, $30 concession, and FREE for kids 15 and under, plus a $50 refundable key deposit per group, and you’ll get that back when you return it. The passport also includes a guidebook and entry to multiple sites you simply can’t access otherwise, making it feel like a bit of a VIP history experience. Everyone has a favourite dish (personally my first every Chicken Parmy was at a Fasta Pasta when I was a kid!) From the pastas to pizza, salads and schnitzels. Whatever takes your fancy, Fasta Pasta will have something to offer even the fussiest of kids. Better yet it really is hard to beat the value, with an adult lunch meal (5 choices on offer) setting you back $12.90 and kids eat free on Monday and Tuesday (with every main meal).

Outside of the kids eat free days, the kids meals at only $10.90 which include a drink and ice cream, plus you can add on a salad for just $2! This is such great value.

The South Terrace location offers some really unique features which are sure to make us head back again and again, including the food delivering robot! Yep you read that right, they have a robot which brings the food right to your table. Book me in. It can even talk and sing ‘Happy Birthday’. Incredible times we live in. Popular for parties and other group bookings, the robot is certainly one of those core memory moments your kids will remember forever.

Choose from indoor or atrium seating, all offering comfort and space for everyone. We love the atrium, which is fully enclosed and offers superb natural light as you watch the world go past on Pulteney Street. The kids can choose from a great range on the kids menu, which doubles as a colouring / activity sheet (we love a spot that caters to keeps the kids busy and off the devices), and there is even an option for the kids to make their own pasta dish!

For parking we found it super easy, stopping just at the top of Glen Osmond Road which is conveniently right next to Marshmallow Park playground. Better yet are the range of playgrounds on South Terrace, right across the road from the restaurant. Perfect for the kids to run off that big pasta lunch!

Located on Gulf View Road at Christies Beach, south of the city, this pub has had mega bucks spent on it in recent times and has to be among the prettiest hotels in 91������ý. Offering a huge beer garden with various indoor and outdoor seating, the real star is the massive outdoor playground suitable for bigger kids. They also run kids club activities here during the term for pre school aged kids, and the food is hands down some of our favourite nosh! You will also find a cinema room and an ice cream machine. That’s a win. Worth the drive south.

Rising Sun Hotel, Port Wakefield

Port Wakefield you say? YEP. This one deserves a spot near the top of our list for the road trippers! It’s epic. The food is unreal (think pub food and also some incredible Asian fusion) and the ‘backyard’ is on steroids. Huge lawn, creative playground with swings and shipping containers and a digger, boat and sand pit. Your well behaved doggos are welcome and this is just the ultimate alternative to stopping for greasy roadhouse food, families love it.

Mick O’Shea’s has had a serious glow-up, and it’s officially stepped into its “ultimate family hangout” era. The refreshed beer garden, brand-new outdoor bar and expanded pavilion have given the place a breezy, holiday-afternoon vibe while still keeping all the cosy charm of a classic Irish pub. Inside, you’ll still find the warm hospitality and hearty pub meals you know and love, but outside is where the magic happens. Think loads of space for long lunches, family celebrations or a relaxed arvo while the kids run (and climb, and slide) to their heart’s content.

Ok so this pub is always impressive for families. With the Bridgewater playground just nextdoor, the actual ultimate is the nature play in and around the creek, right by the outdoor tables! Kids require a high level of supervision as always around water, and honestly, take a change of clothes or a towel if you are really going to let them get into it! think stepping stones, sticks and a running stream. Its a fabulous kids menu here and the new all weather pavillion is just something else in all seasons. Family friendly pubs dont come much better than this one.

Shelly’s, Semaphore South

10/10 for toddler tapas, the food and coffee here, the dinners on a Friday and Sunday evening and the fully fenced epic playground on the doorstep. Shelly’s ticks so many boxes for families. There is both indoor and outdoor dining, beach access, the Semaphore Steam Train comes by and the whole experience is just a vibe. Even in winter, this place is it! Rug up and come for a hot chocolate or a long brunch. The kids will not complain, guenteed! This one is licenced too……sneaky sunset beverage and let the kids blow off some steam any one?

The Village Grounds Cafe is a hidden gem for families with little ones, open Tuesdays and Wednesdays and perfect for a relaxed, low-cost outing.
