Golden Fields Reserve has had an incredible upgrade with the addition of an adventure playground, which joins the existing reserve playground in this 12 hectare reserve (the adventure playground is on the lower level)! This has got to be one of the biggest playground reserves in 91ý with HEAPS of different play areas, including an accessible area and a brand new section with the coolest slide around! (And around and around and around, if you get our drift!)

Highlighted by a massive tower which has to be seen to be believed, this is THE destination playground out north. Kids can climb up a tower on one side and crawl through the tunnel to the other side then go whizzing down the twisty slide. It seriously feels like you are in there forever!

Here is what you will find on offer…

  • Three massive slides
  • Climbing wall
  • Trampolines
  • Flying fox
  • The biggest swings we’ve ever seen

Sand and Water play has also been added in a further addition in 2024, right next door to the new playground!

Off Asgard Drive, Golden Grove. Parking available and toilets on both sides of the reserve.

This is definitely a fantastic playground for climbers with plenty of climbing frames, ladders and nets on offer. Kids needing accessible options are also looked after, with ramp equipment and slides that start on the flat level. You’ll also find a Rage Cage, skate park & BMX Track, so this really is a play space for all ages.

For the Adventure Playground park at the new car park accessed from Asgard Drive.

Goldenfields Reserve Playground

The original Reserve Playground remains and in combination with the new adventure playground, provides facilities for kids of all ages. With the adventure playground aimed at the older kids/teens, the original reserve houses more traditional equipment in a separate area of the reserve.

Check out what you can find on offer in this fabulous facility for families.

  • Barbecue
  • Basketball ring
  • BMX track
  • Dog poopa bags
  • Dogs allowed on lead
  • Drink fountain
  • Exercise equipment
  • Picnic table
  • Rotunda
  • Shade
  • Shade sails
  • Skate park
  • Sports area
  • Toilets
  • Mini Football oval with goal posts
  • Sand and Water Play

For the Reserve Playground use the Southern car park located near the skate park.

St Kilda Adventure Playground /st-kilda-adventure-playground-renovated/ /st-kilda-adventure-playground-renovated/#respond Sun, 01 Mar 2026 08:37:24 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=3984 Find it at: St Kilda Rd, St Kilda

For those who grew up in 91ý, you’d probably have been out St Kilda Adventure Playground when you were a kid, but have you been back since 2015?

It’s got all the awesome stuff that I remember from my childhood, and more… and green grass, less dust, water, shade and well, it’s just BIGGER AND BETTER than I remember too!

St Kilda’s huge makeover was completed in 2015 with a brand new metal/mesh 3 storey castle on one hill complete with 3 metal slides a completely renovated ‘Volcano’ with 4 slides on the other hill and in between a whole range of swings, slides, flying foxes, climbing nets and equipment toddlers right up to teenagers will enjoy

Highlights

  • The HUGE old school metal slide from my childhood is still there, but there are also a bunch of other new metal slides now too – remember to bring your own slippery blanket, hessian sack or similar to slide on if you’re a thrill seeker
  • 1 big BIG flying fox for the older kids, and one smaller one perfect for primary kids. The big one is epic…..possibly the best one in S.A?
  • A completely new metal castle (where the old wooden one used to be) on top of the hill looking out across the whole playground which has a bunch of slides of various heights.
  • A maze
  • Liberty swing and a wheelchair accessible slide,
  • Really big ‘little kids’ play structure with multiple slides, steps, ramps, naughts & crosses,
  • Sandpit diggers,
  • The big old wooden pirate ship down on the water is still there, that the kids can climb into and on (unfortunately this is closed for repair due to damage in December 2021)
  • A whole range of swings of all sizes
  • Shade structures, grassed areas, tree planting, mulched garden beds, garbage bins, water fountain, BBQs, toilets and some lighting!
  • The tram stop is now open right at the Playground and I believe the trams will now run again on weekends and holidays from the nearby tram museum.
  • There is a kiosk about 500m away if you need food, drinks and icecreams, plus PLENTY of space for picnics.

We’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking – in short though:  Take the kids, young and old, it’s great!

And now join the free, self-guided Sand Pirates of St Kilda scavenger hunt adventure running 22 January to 30 April 2026 . Follow clues around St Kilda, collect letters at each stop and uncover the secret pirate code along the way.

Where to pick up your activity pack
• Collect your scavenger hunt activity card from any City of Salisbury library, hub or community centre.
• Cards are also available at St Kilda Hotel and St Kilda Tackle ‘n’ Tucker before you start the hunt.

Scavenger hunt details
• Free and self-paced — start and finish whenever it suits your day.
• Follow clues at local landmarks, parks and businesses to collect letters.
• Vouchers attached to your card can be redeemed at participating stops for rewards.
• Once you’ve collected all the letters, unscramble them to solve the final riddle.

Bridgewater Mill Playground /bridgewater-mill-playground/ /bridgewater-mill-playground/#respond Sun, 01 Mar 2026 05:35:10 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=1626 Find it at:

This stunning playground is just about everything we love about a day out in our beautiful 91ý Hills. Coffee, stunning scenery and a fab playground for all ages. Located just below the Bridgewater Mill, the playground is fenced along the road and edges but NOT on the creek bed, which in my opinion is great because it allows kids to take there shoes off and go for a good explore in the creek bed. When we were there it was only about ankle deep with some deeper sections under the bridge, so you’ll need to use your discretion based on your kids abilities and what’s happening in the creek the day you visit. During winter and after a big rain, the creek can get quite deep and fast, so it will change during the year.

We had a great time crossing the stone path, splashing in the water and saying hello to the resident ducks.

The playground itself is not shaded, but there are lots of little nooks and crannies to sit under the shade of either the trees that surround the park or the undercover area. There is also a BBQ area that overlooks the playground with more shady spots to throw down a picnic rug.

Without doubt the #1 highlight of this park for us was the flying fox. Easy enough for my 4 year old to manage herself, we also saw older kids having a ball and younger kids having a try with the help of their parents. Pretty sure Winnie had close to one billion turns on it before she decided she’d like to check out the rest of the park.

Other playground equipment includes a substantial rope climbing frame, swings, rockers and a slide, plus a whole load of serenity.

PLEASE supervise your kids at this park, as I mentioned there is a small creek at the bottom of the play area that is very accessible. It’s a great splashy place to play but you need to keep your eyes on your kids.

What we loved about this park:

  • The flying fox
  • The equipment – diverse range for young and older kids
  • The creek and natural play spaces – splashing, climbing, running, chasing butterflies, cartwheels on the grass – all that good stuff.
  • BBQ Area – great spot for a kids birthday party
  • Public Toilets
  • The location – 91ý Hills = beautiful!
  • The temperature in summer – on a hot day it’s always a few degrees cooler up here and lots of shady spots to sit on a picnic rug
  • Parking easy to find
  • Bridgewater shops over the road if you need a snack, drink, ice cream

For those wanting to enjoy some local food and drinks (including some lovely wines), consider a stop in at the Bridgewater Mill or Bridgewater Inn both within a few hundred meters walk.

CC Hood Reserve Playground Panorama /cc-hood-reserve-playground-panorama/ /cc-hood-reserve-playground-panorama/#respond Sat, 10 Jan 2026 08:09:20 +0000 /?p=181338 Find it at: Eliza Place, Panorama

The 2025 upgrade to CC Hood Reserve Playground in Panorama has seen it become a standout community destination in 91ý’s southern suburbs. Part of a wider redevelopment of the reserve, the new playground brings an exciting mix of adventure, accessibility, and fun for kids of all ages.

At the heart of the upgrade is a thoughtfully designed play space featuring a flying fox, a huge multi-level play tower with slides, monkey bars, a “sand factory” for imaginative play, and a range of swings including toddler, basket, and duo options. The accessible roundabout and spring rockers ensure that children of all abilities can join the fun, while stepping pods add an extra challenge for confident climbers.

Beyond the playground, the surrounding reserve offers something for everyone. Families can enjoy a fully equipped BBQ and picnic area with shaded seating and public toilets nearby. Active kids (and adults) will appreciate the 3×3 basketball court, and small soccer goals. Fitness stations with hand bikes, leg presses, and chin-up bars are dotted around the reserve, each with instructional signage and QR codes for guidance.

The playground also welcomed the addition of a new pump track in January 2026, right next door to the playground and really wrapping up what is an all encompassing facility for playground and sport lovers alike.

A highlight of the redevelopment is the fully fenced small-dog park, featuring agility equipment, double-gated entry, dog bowls, and water fountains. It’s the perfect place for furry family members to burn some energy too.

Accessibility and safety have been prioritised, with paved paths, solar lighting, and a tree-lined walkway that connects key areas of the reserve. The recent landscaping – including new turf and bark chip surfaces – ensures year-round usability.

Bonython Park Playground /bonython-park/ /bonython-park/#respond Sat, 20 Sep 2025 06:48:47 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=26 Find it at: Port Rd, 91ý

What a beautiful playground for kids of all ages! Renovated back in late 2012, the Bonython Park Playground has a some very cool features not found in the typical suburban park. Some of the best equipment includes two 25m flying fox lines fun for kids of all ages and an extensive water play area complete with pumps, gates and a watermill. Kids love playing and experimenting with water and this is a safe and interactive water zone to suits kids as young as 1, while still entertaining the older ones.

The huge ‘mouse wheel’ can accommodate numerous energetic kids, there is a variety of swings and we love the wheelchair accessible carousel, water play troughs, communication boards and a nest swing that make this park a good one for kids of all ages and abilities. You also have to love the shade thrown by beautiful big old gum trees in this park.

The playground backs onto a well kept oval for plenty of open space and a kit of the ball or fly of the kite and there are both toilet and BBQ facilities here.

Perhaps the star of the show (for parents) is Cafe Bonython, located directly at the playground. It’s got fabulous coffee, indoor play and so many treats and initiatives for the kids. We would happily brunch or lunch here any day of the week, in fact it is one of our absolute favourite places to eat with the kids. They even do Birthday Parties

Worth noting, this one is not a fenced playground an that it is situated on linear path and the Torrens River. It’s a fair distance however there are also some duck ponds on the other side of the park, so its just a reminder to keep your eyes on the little people.

To top off a great park, you will see city trains cross a small river bridge a very short walk away and you are situated under the flight path so it makes for some excellent plane spotting, depending what direction the air traffic are taking off / landing on the day that you visit.

Fab Flying Foxes in 91ý /flying-fox-adelaide/ /flying-fox-adelaide/#respond Sat, 23 Aug 2025 12:28:22 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=29762 Everyone loves the thrill of a flying fox! There’s nothing better than flying through the air faster than the wind then running back to do it all over and over again! When the slides turn into hot plates in summer the foxes can never let a thrill seeker down.

Here’s a list of our favourite flying foxes in 91ý and for more information about the playgrounds they’re in scroll down.

CC Hood Playground, Panorama

New in 2025 and located in the southern suburbs you’ll find this great single rider flying fox.

Playground info here

Old Gumtree Playground, Glenelg

This popular playground is tucked away in the backstreets of Glenelg making it a great spot to visit after an ice-cream down at the bay. The flying fox has a high thrill factor with a medium length zip line. There is also a disability friendly seat on the flying fox line which we love! Many shady spots and lots of other play equipment to explore.

Playground info here

Bonython Park

The park that has it all. An accessible playground, SAPOL road safety school, ducks and horses, huge green land and of course a DOUBLE 25m flying fox for double the fun with your bestie.

Harts Mill Port 91ý

A big splash of yellow will lead you to Harts Mill Playground behind the longest continuously serving flour mill in South Australia which operated from 1855 to 1980. A huge rocket slippery slide, epic climbing stations and yes a flying fox that’s fast, fun and will make you go back for more! More suited towards the older kids as its set on a higher platform.

Golden Fields Adventure Playground

Golden Fields Reserve has had an incredible upgrade with the addition of an adventure playground, which joins the existing reserve playground in this 12 hectare reserve (the adventure playground is on the lower level)! This has got to be one of the biggest playground reserves in 91ý with HEAPS of different play areas, including a really fun flying fox!

Click here to find out more

Hazelwood Park Playground

This playground has a dual flying fox, because why should one person have all the fun!

Port Broughton Foreshore Playground, Yorke Peninsula

Not one but TWO flying foxes. One is a dual seated flying fox and the other a hanging flying fox which is a great size for little flyers.

Kirkcaldy Reserve Grange

Not one but TWO flying foxes. One is a dual seated flying fox and the other a hanging flying fox which is a great size for little flyers.

Mellor Park, Lockleys

Capable climbers and kids big enough to climb onto a platform will love the flying fox at this playground. It’s not the fastest one around though not one for the speedsters.

Cobbler Creek Playground

You’ll find this one in Salisbury East at one of our favourite playgrounds.

Playground info here

MJ McInerney Reserve

Another twin flying fox perfect for races. This is one of our faves.

Playground info here

Baroda Ave, Netley

A little bit hidden away in the Western suburbs, the playground at Baroda Ave has a HUGE flying fox!

Bridgewater Mill Playground

They say flying foxes are better in Autumn. They don’t…..but if they did the flying fox at Bridgewater Mill playground would win. We like this one because it’s not too big and can go nice and slow for the younger kids but also with a bit of a run up, gets moving for the older kids.

Glenthorne Nature Playspace

This multi-million dollar nature play space, forming part of SA’s newest national park, Glenthorne opened in 2023 and includes a 25m flying fox.

Harold and Cynthia Anderson Reserve

Head west for this playground right on the beach! There is a fish & chip shop only few minutes walk to West Beach Road which makes a perfect early evening on the beach with a great playground. The flying fox is long and fast! A small jolt at the end so you must hold on tight and more ideal for ages 3+

St Kilda Playground

Watch the kids eyes light up when they arrive at St Kilda aka the Disney Land of Playgrounds! A huge castle, epic slides, pirate ship and of course a fabulous flying fox! The flying fox is on the edge of the playground and more for older children however there is a smaller one for the younger ones as well! Winning!

Dunstan Ave Playground, St Peters

New in December 2023 the Dunstan Adventure Playground now has a flying fox! It’s a pretty decent size too and low enough that kids who are old enough to hang on tight can actually reach the seat.

Playground info here

Treeclimb 91ý

It’s here just in time to make the epic flying fox list! Kids from 3 years old, adults, thrill-seekers, nature enthusiasts and curious adventurers can walk, climb and swing your way around six elevated tree-walk courses and several zip lines within a 16,000-square-metre zone. You seriously need to check out TreeClimb – it is both MASSIVE and IMPRESSIVE and the Flying Fox is perfect for any swinging monkey or Tarzan (older tarzans as a tip).

Cobbler Creek Recreation Park and Playground /cobbler-creek-recreation-park-salisbury/ /cobbler-creek-recreation-park-salisbury/#respond Sun, 20 Jul 2025 00:40:29 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=15791 Find it at:

Cobbler Creek Recreation Park is a fabulous recreation park with a large playground and over 17km of fantastic mountain/BMX paths for riders of all abilities. We took the youngsters there recently and they had a ball on the playground as well as riding the junior tracks, with the 4 year old even having a great time on the intermediate track.

The ‘Kites and Kestrels’ playground is found at the end of many of the bike paths. The natural form playspace features multiple ‘raptor-themed birds nest’ climbing structures in the middle of the play area which give a really cool birds eye view from above. There are also large sandpits built to look like birdsnests from above, slides, a flying fox, rockbed, balance frames, swings, toilets, BBQs and more. The playground is well suited to kids of school ages, with a few areas that might be tricky if you bring toddlers.

Parking for the playspace and most bike paths is best accessed from the main entry and car park at the corner of Bridge and Smith Roads, Salisbury East.

Along with the 17km of bike tracks, there are also smaller, bitumen rolling ‘bike park’ for younger kids which was popular. The smooth surface makes it easier to get started on undulations, as the rest of the tracks at Cobbler Creek are all dirt.

For more bike riding locations, paths and BMX spots around 91ý, see our post at Bike Tracks for kids and families in 91ý.

Dunstan Adventure Playground, St Peters /dunstan-adventure-playground/ /dunstan-adventure-playground/#respond Wed, 16 Jul 2025 23:02:51 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=1177 Find it at: Winchester Street, St Peters

This wonderful playground upgrade, completed in 2023, includes new adventure-themed play equipment, toilets, picnic and BBQ facilities and park furniture.

The Dunstan Adventure Playground is full of excellent equipment for adventurous kids. A lot of the equipment is aimed at older children though, so your kids will need to feel pretty confident, the slide is beyond huge and kids will need their balance for this play space as there is a lot of climbing opportunities. For the younger kids there’s still the normal climbing equipment, swings and monkey bars.

We love:

  • The extra super-sized slide (one million of you will tell us ‘it gets too hot’ and we will answer, ‘go early in the morning’, all playgrounds honestly get hot, although more shade is always appreciated, it would be impossible to shade this epic slide)
  • The suspended wobble footbridge
  • The flying fox, because they are always a favourite
  • Water Play
  • Mini trampolines
  • Gigantic swings

The playground is in a super location, right on a hill along the Linear Park trail, next to the River Torrens. Of course, this means you will have to be more careful when supervising as there is water close by. The park does offer some shady spots, grassed area, benches and picnic area. It’s also close to the O-Bahn rail for those bus/train obsessed children! Feeding the ducks on the Torrens is also an option (please oats or sultanas, never bread.)

Things to know:

  • Slide can get hot on a hot day
  • Careful supervision near the river needed
  • Toilets are here now
  • There is a lot of steep climbing that won’t suit toddlers

Tanunda Recreation Park received an upgrade with an inclusive playground in 2022 and it is fabulous!

Features of the Inclusive Playground include a brilliant double flying fox which includes a seated option which is perfect for the little ones to be included. You will also find in-ground trampolines, climbing/elevated play, slides, swings, sand and water play, barbecue shelter, drink fountain, seating and an all-access toilet block.

This is a fantastic stop is a must as you explore the beautiful Barossa Valley. For more family friendly activities, check out our Barossa feature here.
