This is s fantastic one stop shop for the family during the hot summer months. With something for every member of the family you can’t go wrong!

Playford Town Park is a HUGE area opened in June 2015. Bring your bike, your scooter, your towel, your picnic blanket, footy, basketball and your BBQ gear and enjoy the whole day down here.

The water play areas are the biggest draw card with 4 separate water play areas for the kids to explore and plenty of seating nearby for parents and friends to supervise the kids while they catch up in a great location.
The playground itself boasts an incredibly wide slide as well as a tunnel slide, a sandpit and scoop, rock climbing, swings, a huge rope climbing structure, flying fox and more! There are also basketball courts and a skate park nearby.
We’d love to see some accessible play equipment though. A liberty swing and other wheelchair accessible equipment would be great.
There is also a great BBQ space for families or groups of friends to cook up a storm as well as an oval to kick the footy around.

Public toilets are available at The Stretton Centre or near the wetlands.

Just up the road (walking distance) is a small shopping complex so if you’ve forgotten the snags don’t worry – all is not lost!

Jo Gapper Activity Park Playground, Hillbank /jo-gapper-activity-park/ /jo-gapper-activity-park/#respond Tue, 01 Jul 2025 02:57:43 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=37616 Find it at: Blackburn Rd, Hillbank

If you like your parks to have a little bit of everything, Jo Gapper Activity Park in Hillbank is definitely worth a look! There’s even a designated area for your fur baby! There’s a playground, basketball court, tennis court, footy field, walking trail and lookout AND a dog park!

Unfortunately the playground itself isn’t shaded, but there are two shaded picnic/BBQ areas right next to it so you can escape the sun if needed. Equipment includes slide, swings, climbing and balancing, ropes, monkey bars, tunnels, rockers and spinners. Something for little kids/toddlers right up to early primary.

Bigger kids will enjoy the sports areas (basketball, tennis, footy) and facilities include onsite toilets, BBQ facilities, water fountain, seating/picnic area and plenty of parking.

It’s a great spot for a walk too. You can follow the path all the way around the other side of the reserve up to the lookout.

And BYO dog to take advantage of the Dog Park which even has a separate area for puppies and small dogs.

Please note that the gates to the carpark at Jo Gapper Activity Park are shut at sunset each day.

Aldinga Skate Park /aldinga-skate-park/ /aldinga-skate-park/#respond Mon, 28 Apr 2025 04:52:59 +0000 /?p=160801 Aldinga Skate Park is the perfect spot for kids, teens, and even parents to enjoy some active fun together, with the 2025 built skate park part of a long term vision to redevelop the Aldinga. Skate Park

The park is thoughtfully designed by CONVIC (A world leader in skate park and youth space design and construction) with all skill levels in mind. Younger children can safely practice on the gentle slopes and wide open areas, while more experienced skaters can tackle the bowl, rails, and stair set. The smooth concrete surface makes learning new skills easier and safer.

The park includes:

  • skate bowl and street skating that is capable of hosting events and competitions
  • lighting
  • irrigated turf for seating and viewing
  • a shelter with benches
  • footpaths and car park

Surrounded by grassy spaces, shady trees, and plenty of seating, it’s easy for families to relax and watch the action. Pack a picnic or grab a bite from one of the nearby cafés — the beautiful Aldinga Beach is just a short stroll away for a perfect day out.

Sturt Reserve Park and Playground, Murray Bridge /sturt-reserve-murray-bridge/ /sturt-reserve-murray-bridge/#respond Thu, 17 Apr 2025 23:39:15 +0000 /?p=49735 **NEW PLAYSPACE COMING SOON**
A multi-million-dollar play space is on the way for Sturt Reserve. The play space’s crowning feature would be a climbable, sensory “play sculpture” in the shape of , the giant cod who carved out the course of the River Murray according to a Ngarrindjeri legend. It will also include:

  • sand and water play areas
  • trampolines, a carousel, a flying fox and a parkour area
  • a circle of swings
  • hammocks, shade structures and barbecues
  • an outdoor classroom
  • refurbished public toilets

Find it at: Charles Sturt Drive, Murray Bridge

Sturt Reserve is a fantastic facility and well worth a visit when you next head up the freeway!

Located on the foreshore of the Murray, it can get a tad (very) windy at times but if you time it right, you won’t find a more beautiful spot to spend the arvo.

The playground itself is massive, in fact you would be hard pressed to find a larger undercover playground anywhere, with several playgrounds enclosed within (and a pirate ship!). Oh and its fully fenced too.

Just outside the playground, they have set up one of those “outdoor exercisey” set ups, presumably for parents who feel guilty after a huge pub lunch, but have a crack if you are that way inclined.

We love the variety here though. With a brand new pump track, skate park, rage cage (multi sport cage thingy) and of course the world famous (well…SA famous) Murray Bridge Bunyip, what else can you want! The Bunyip is free now too.

It also has heaps of parking, toilets, BBQs, seating and a massive grassed area for whatever activity takes your fancy (decent kite spot for fellow kite aficionados). The area also acts as the port for a heap of river cruises too so check them out!

Jervois Street Reserve Playground South Plympton /jervois-street-reserve-playground-south-plympton/ /jervois-street-reserve-playground-south-plympton/#respond Tue, 18 Mar 2025 09:34:26 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=12040 Find it at: 43 Jervois Street, South Plympton

Jervois Street Playground in South Plympton is up there with Morialta and Glenunga as one of our favourite playgrounds in 91ý. Some of the Jervois Street Reserve highlights are:

  • Fully fenced junior playground with lots to keep the little ones happy including double slides, a ‘bird’s nest’ swing, regular and baby swing, sandpit and a water play feature with pump action water pump and gorgeous water channel.
  • An older kids playground with mini flying fox, wooden/rope climbing frames, basketball and netball rings.
  • A number of areas for skating, scooting and riding bikes, including a ‘trike track’ which our balance biker loved!
  • A mountain bike/BMX path through behind the basketball court that our kids LOVED.
  • A small covered seating area, FREE electric BBQ and all-access toilet (1 large self-flushing).
  • A large grassed area for open play, ball games and dog lovers.
  • A fitness node with equipment designed for all ages.
  • Pickup a drive through coffee at the On-The-Run on Marion Road just a few hundred metres from the Reserve! 🙂

Jervois Street Reserve is a wonderful, open play space and you can definitely tell that a lot of thought and community involvement went into creating it. There is a gorgeous junior playground area which is fully fenced and caters well to the smaller members of the family. With a great double slide ideal for kids ages 1+, it allows younger kids the ability to make her way up the softfall climbing hill by herself, rather than having any ladders around. Plenty of natural wood and rock climbing options, a bird’s nest swing plus regular swing and ‘gated’ baby swings, music drums, a huge sandpit with sunshade, water play area and 2 cool sandtables with fixed attachments are all part of the fun. Our kids LOVED that the tunnel through the hill has the added fun of being made to look like a caterpillar hole through a giant green apple – just like The Very Hungry Caterpillar! With a number of wooden seats for parents to take a break knowing their kids are enjoying themselves (& fenced in!), we are giving this little kids playground a big thumbs up!

Tolley Reserve Nuriootpa Train Playground /tolley-reserve-nuriootpa-train-park/ /tolley-reserve-nuriootpa-train-park/#respond Thu, 06 Mar 2025 10:34:03 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=18722 Find it at: Fife Street, Nuriootpa

Tolley Reserve, or Nuriootpa Train Playground is a large open space for kids of all ages and abilities. It makes the perfect stop on a day out at the Barossa Valley so that the kids can play and run off some energy!

Play equipment is inclusive, accessible and great for all kids and includes a set of swings, a Liberty Swing, small flying fox, bouncing horse sea saw and of course the train that you can climb up on and play on.

In addition to all the play equipment there is heaps of green space, table and chairs, and lots of shade (but not much shade on the actual play equipment itself!)

The full size old train has been there for years and is an icon in the area.

On the large main play area there is heaps to do. To get to the tunnel slide you need to climb a rope ladder or rock wall. There are 3 slippery dips one double one (bumpy Slide and normal slide)

The playground has toilets including disabled facilities, BBQs and tables and is partially shaded.

A $3.9m upgrade in 2023 transformed the Paradise Skate Park into an exciting and dynamic space for people of all ages, abilities and skill levels. It has also been recognised as ‘Park of the Year’ for 2024 at the Parks and Leisure Australia awards night. So good!

Key features of the park include a skate area with bowl, flow zone and street area, dirt BMX track with multiple jumps and berm, pump track, ninja course, parkour zone, play area and sports zone for ball sports.

There are toilets, BBQs, shelters and a large lawn for people to enjoy a picnic and all the facilities on offer.

Dogs are permitted on-leash and a dog water fountain is available.

The Skate Park

The new skate area caters for all ‘humans on wheels’ and those that like to be active. Key features of the park include a skate area with bowl, flow zone and street area, dirt BMX track with multiple jumps and berm and a pump track.

A number of unique skate features and blends will offer users an exciting new rider experience, in particular, the hips, transfers and extensions around the flow zone which will allow users the opportunity to create individual lines and perform creative manoeuvres.  The wide range of new and classic skate features appealing to a range of skill levels and styles means there’s something for everyone at this skate park.

The playground has swings, a flying fox, slides, inground trampoline and plenty of climbing ropes and poles. There’s also an adventure course which is designed with an A-frame climb, log jumps, horizontal net crawl, timber berm run, and totem poles.

There are toilets onsite, barbecues, shelters and a beautiful large lawn for people to enjoy ball games or a picnic. Add in a basketball court, table tennis table……are we ticking all your playground boxes yet?

We’ve also been told that the accessible toilet including adult change facilities and hoist will be available in March 2024.

Clare Avenue Reserve Playground, Sheidow Park /clare-avenue-reserve-sheidow-park/ /clare-avenue-reserve-sheidow-park/#respond Tue, 29 Oct 2024 08:22:21 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=22040 Keeping in touch with the environment isupgraded local playground at Sheidow Park. A small quaint upgraded play space area has been added to the existing reserve and allows the local kids a place to play on the equipment or amongst the existing trees and open grass area. The play ground features a mound slippery dip nestled amongst rocks and shrubs where the kids can choose to climb up on the stairs or the rocks depending on skill levels.

The nest swing is always a favourite and the kids will also find a rope climbing cone shaped piece of equipment along with a sea saw made from a log keeping with its back to nature theme . For the little ones you will find a timber bouncy piece of equipment . Positioned around the play space are logs for the kids to climb and walk along . A concrete path surrounds the play area ready for bikes , scooters or skateboards.

This play ground has NO shade , NO toilets , NO BBQ facilities or NO fence so a nice upgraded spot for a play if you live locally. We love the back to nature theme. Suitable for toddlers and younger school kids.

Collins Reserve Playground, Kidman Park /collins-reserve-kidman-park/ /collins-reserve-kidman-park/#respond Wed, 02 Oct 2024 11:03:14 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=26760 Find it at: Valetta Road, Kidman Park

We love this reserve as it is awesome for all ages and has such a variety of things to do. As this reserve is quite big it features 2 play equipment areas. BONUS .The original play equipment space is multi coloured and aimed generally for the older kids but still includes a few pieces for the toddlers.

This section features swings, 3 slippery dips, lots and lots of awesome climbing equipment to keep the kids challenged ( and hopefully accident free), a mini flying fox and games. This area does NOT have any shade. Just beside this area you will also find a skate park along with half basketball court for a mini game or to just shoot some hoops.

The second play equipment area located on the other side of the reserve is more suitable for the toddlers and kindy kids. This area has been added on and has the wooden look with a splash of colour amongst it. Featuring 2 slippery dips, swing set including baby swing , some climbing equipment including a rope net , small tunnel, games and my favourite the big green car. This area is mostly sheltered and is close to the tennis courts.

As if this wasn’t enough. To make this reserve even better it has a lovely water feature with ducks and wildlife. There is onsite parking , toilets ,BBQ facilities with shelter. It has a huge grass area to kick the footy, play cricket ,dance or just run wild on. Unfortunately this park has NO fence but is quite set back from the road

If I were you I would pack a picnic and some bread for the ducks and spend a few hours here. This play space has so much to offer for a variety of ages and has a lovely vibe to it

In need of a coffee there is a coffee shop approx 5 min walk away in the Fulham Shopping Centre ( corner of Tapleys Hill Rd and Valetta Rd )

Semaphore Foreshore Playground /semaphore-foreshore-playground/ /semaphore-foreshore-playground/#respond Wed, 11 Sep 2024 08:26:23 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=12437 Find it at: The Esplanade, Semaphore

Semaphore Foreshore is set for an incredible redevelopment, which will include a brand new playground (which will replace the existing playground below). The revised Master Plan is open for community consultation until 19 May 2024, but check out some of the concept images below. We are loving the proposed new activity hub (new playground to be built next to this), and water play!

To read the Master Plan and provide feedback, click .

Keep reading for info on the existing playground.

The existing Semaphore playground is right in the middle of the Semaphore Foreshore Reserve and bordered by The Fort Glanville Train Rides, The Semaphore Carousel, bustling Semaphore Road and of course the beach and jetty. Don’t forget the great kiosk which is always open right at the gate, plus the train rides depart all from the one central location.

The playground is undercover and fully fenced with lots of climbing equipment, a flying fox, slides and tunnels. It truly is one of the nicest playground locations in 91ý, right in the heart of the Semaphore entertainment precinct.

What we liked about this playground

  • The location which is sensational on a sunny day in summer or winter. There’s lots of other things to see and do in this area so makes a great park to visit for the whole day.
  • It’s shady and fully fenced
  • Really clean
  • Kiosk right there for coffee, food, icecreams and more
  • Skate park
  • BBQ facilities
  • Fantastic beach path perfect for a stroll, bike ride, scootering. A great spot to learn how to ride a bike as you don’t need to worry about cars.
  • Public toilets close by
  • Lots of parking available
  • Nice big grassy area next door, great place for a birthday party.
