What a beautiful playground for kids of all ages! Renovated back in late 2012, the Bonython Park Playground has a some very cool features not found in the typical suburban park. Some of the best equipment includes two 25m flying fox lines fun for kids of all ages and an extensive water play area complete with pumps, gates and a watermill. Kids love playing and experimenting with water and this is a safe and interactive water zone to suits kids as young as 1, while still entertaining the older ones.

The huge ‘mouse wheel’ can accommodate numerous energetic kids, there is a variety of swings and we love the wheelchair accessible carousel, water play troughs, communication boards and a nest swing that make this park a good one for kids of all ages and abilities. You also have to love the shade thrown by beautiful big old gum trees in this park.

The playground backs onto a well kept oval for plenty of open space and a kit of the ball or fly of the kite and there are both toilet and BBQ facilities here.

Perhaps the star of the show (for parents) is Cafe Bonython, located directly at the playground. It’s got fabulous coffee, indoor play and so many treats and initiatives for the kids. We would happily brunch or lunch here any day of the week, in fact it is one of our absolute favourite places to eat with the kids. They even do Birthday Parties

Worth noting, this one is not a fenced playground an that it is situated on linear path and the Torrens River. It’s a fair distance however there are also some duck ponds on the other side of the park, so its just a reminder to keep your eyes on the little people.

To top off a great park, you will see city trains cross a small river bridge a very short walk away and you are situated under the flight path so it makes for some excellent plane spotting, depending what direction the air traffic are taking off / landing on the day that you visit.

Glover North Helicopter Park Playground, North 91ý /glover-north-helicopter-park/ /glover-north-helicopter-park/#respond Wed, 16 Jul 2025 23:55:45 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=28 Find it at: Lefevre Street, North 91ý

Better known as Helicopter Park to many, Glover North Playground is located on Lefevre Terrace in North 91ý. With a large helicopter as its centrepiece, smaller kids can slide out of the chopper’s belly as one of the many pint-sized highlights located at this much loved playground. There are also plenty of swings, see-saws, climbing frames and sand play equipment including the popular diggers in the huge sandpit.

Much of the playground’s fun is best suited to younger kids aged 1-5 years, however older kids will also enjoy the larger climbing frames, rope bridge and forts. Most of the equipment has softfall rubber matting or barkchips to break any falls. There is a range of equipment that isn’t common elsewhere with Heaps of things to climb on, slide down, walk across and more.

One of the best fenced playgrounds near the CBD, Helicopter Park has shaded, grassy picnic spots, drink fountain, toilets and BBQ facilities. Keep in mind that most of the play equipment is not shaded. There are also horses agisted in the nearby parklands which the kids love – take care though as patting and feeding is not recommended.

There is also a super cute Little Free Library where you can ‘bring a book, take a book’ so be sure to bring one along with you next time you visit.

Another fully fenced park in the city, this South Terrace playground is located near the Unley/Pulteney Road intersection of the Parklands.

Well equipped and better suited for slightly older kids than the one a few blocks West, this playground includes a good sized, seated flying fox, numerous toddler and regular swings, slides for all ages and spring rockers. It also has a sizable climbing net for older kids, a rock climbing wall, sandpits and importantly, is home to one of the few wheelchair friendly ‘liberty swings’, which we love.

Other features include toilets, tables, water fountain and covered areas. Most of the play equipment is not fully shaded. Outside the large, fenced playground there are numerous playing fields and a basketball court.

Quentin Kenihan/Rymill Park Accessible Playground /rymill-park-murlawirrapurka-playground/ /rymill-park-murlawirrapurka-playground/#respond Fri, 20 Jun 2025 03:10:00 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=35645 Find it at: Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka (Park 14)

Disability advocate, writer and actor Quentin Kenihan has been memorialised with an inclusive playground in 91ý’s Rymill Park. The $1m play space includes sensory elements, waterplay and features that encourage shared play and is designed with children and parents with wheelchairs in mind.

This fully fenced playground is thoughtfully designed and a place where children of all abilities can meet, explore and play together. Thanks to its mix of sensory and accessible equipment and welcoming layout, it beautifully embodies Quentin’s vision: a space where no one is left out. Whether kids like water games, sensory discovery, climbing, swinging this plays pace delivers.

It was always a goal of Quentin’s to have an inclusive playspace in 91ý to cater for all kids and this playground is a testament to his legacy. His family and friends were even consulted in the design process, as well as other disability support groups, to make sure everybody could have fun here.

From toddlers to teenagers, the playground offers a wide range of age-appropriate challenges and free-play options, encouraging active and imaginative play for everyone. Accessibility is at the heart of the space, with wheelchair-friendly equipment, wide ramps, and smooth paths ensuring children with mobility challenges can fully engage in the fun. The play space also promotes shared sensory and interactive experiences, encouraging children of all abilities to play and explore together.

There’s shade over part of the playground as well as lots of big shady trees to get out of the sun if needed. There’s lots of lush green grass to run on, sit on and picnic on plus sheltered seating and BBQ facilities too!

Inclusive Features

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the features that make this playspace welcoming to all:

  • Wheelchair‑accessible trampoline – flat-surface trampoline safe for users with mobility devices
  • Accessible swing & “sway fun” seat – swinging elements designed for shared use by children with and without disabilities
  • Spinning carousel – inclusive design to allow wheelchair access
  • Rope climbing structure – a favourite for older kids, with soft-fall bark and rubber surfaces
  • Water play area – with pumps, troughs and weirs that are reachable from seated and standing positions

  • Interactive buttons – easy‑press controls to activate water features, even at wheelchair height
  • Smooth, wide pathways – barrier‑free circulation throughout the site
  • Shade coverage & soft surfacing – with rubber matting and bark chips designed to cushion falls and help with mobility

Also bring the bikes and scooters for a few laps on the Superloop challenge track – an extended pathway for bikes, scooters and wheelchairs.

There is alocated within the play space that isdesigned to be a safe and inclusive place for all, including those with wheelchairs or walking frames, and severely disabled people requiring the assistance of an attendant and there are 3 additionalpublic toiletsopen at all times, with access to theChanging Placescubicleavailable using a.

There are 4 accessible car parks on Rundle Road located about 100m from the playspace, and another 2 accessible car parks next to the 91ý Bowling Club about 50m from the playspace.

Things to know

  • There is a pond close to the playground so please keep your eyes on your kids in case they wander off, and please don’t feed the ducks it’s not good for them.
  • It’s right next to Gluttony so if you visit during Fringe you can pop out the back gate for a play pre/post Fringe show.

Bundey’s Paddock / Tidlangga Playground /bundeys-paddock-tidlangga/ /bundeys-paddock-tidlangga/#respond Thu, 24 Apr 2025 22:50:12 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=14054 Find it at:

There are two main playground areas within the North 91ý Playspace both with similar equipment but one lower to the ground and therefore better for 1-4 year olds, while the slightly bigger equipment is well suited to ages 4-10.  Each playground section has HEAPS of options for climbing including lots of different wood and rope sections, log balance beams, wooden tree/stick climbing structures, large rocks and more. Add in raised platforms, wooden see-saws, a huge sandpit, a range of swings and slides (metal so take care when hot!) and the play equipment has a lot to keep kids happy.

In in addition to the two wooden playground areas, there is also a lovely new tennis court, half court basketball court, two free electric BBQs, free on street parking, toilets and a number of bench tables to sit at (some of which are under the newly built covered areas). One of my favourite areas is the lovely little exploratory nature trail that rounds through the exisiting landscape on the far western corner of the playspace and takes kids through a range of beautiful wooden archways as they follow the trail.

Things we are loving about this great new North 91ý playspace:

  • There are a number of different play areas spread out across the North 91ý playspace. They are close enough to watch all the kids, yet spread out enough to create a nice sense of space and make it less crowded.
  • Climbers will have fun on the range of great climbing options for toddlers and up with most made of gorgeous natural wood and ropes. We especially love the climbing poles – with a set for big and small kids.
  • The use of the tennis court, half court basketball and large grassed area in the middle to spread the playground areas out.
  • There is lots of space, green grass for ball games, picnics etc and plenty of it is shaded – although much of the new equipment is not under shade so be sun smart. There is also the large oval right next to the playground so you can have a full game of sport while there!
  • A huge sandpit with lovely clean sand so bring the buckets, spade and diggers.
  • The super cool musical bell springers seen in the video below – the kids LOVE these as they are a great new addition we haven’t seen before, the bell noise continues for quite a long time AND the spring underneath is strong enough to hold up a child which means they make a fun balance ball as well!

Princess Elizabeth Playground, 91ý CBD /princess-elizabeth-playground/ /princess-elizabeth-playground/#respond Sun, 06 Oct 2024 19:04:00 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=4178 Find it at: South Terrace, 91ý

The Princess Elizabeth Playground is fantastic for all ages, from toddlers up to adults.  Located on South Terrace opposite Willcox St in the city, it is definitely a big favourite with us (and most of 91ý judging by numbers!). It is one of many well-equipped kids playgrounds in this area and reopened in late 2014 after a complete upgrade.

There is so much to do, and the park is a huge hit with kids and parents alike. There is heaps of awesome new equipment, ranging from the very popular mini-trampolines and large climbing net, spinning swing, pod swing and an amazing medieval looking castle complete with a twisting tunnel slide. The opportunities for kids to get their imaginations going are endless.

There are also more swings, see-saws, spring rockers and a large multi-play structure including monkey bars, climbing ropes, wobbly platform boards and sliding poles.

The HUGE downside in my opinion is that it isn’t fully fenced and there are nearby busy roads (and take extra care when events like the Royal Show are on because cars will be driving on the playing fields close by) – I know it encourages people to get out and use the fields more, but still think many people wouldn’t be so keen!

General park facilities include a toilet block, BBQ facilities, bench seating, drinking fountains, and plenty of shady spots. A large sports field for running around or ball games top off this well-equipped facility.

This park is beautiful to visit in spring when the blossoms are out.

Marshmallow Park Playground /marshmallow-park-glen-osmond-road-adelaide/ /marshmallow-park-glen-osmond-road-adelaide/#respond Thu, 09 Nov 2023 11:20:55 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=12184 Marshmallow Park on Glen Osmond Road, in the 91ý Parklands is a firm favourite with our families from the 2 year old to the 10 year old.

With its huge new renovation, there is now heaps more to explore at this site – also known as Pelzer Park or Pityarilla Activity Hub!The renovation includes some brilliant new nature play features, alongside more traditional swings, slides and climbing frames. There is a great water feature hill that flows into a giant sandpit and some awesome equipment that is designed to be accessible from a wheelchair. A new giant slide, super cool jellyfish and witchetty grub sculptures, and huge wooden climbing frame complete the fully fenced ‘junior’ area.

We are so lucky in 91ý to have a city surrounded by the gorgeous Parklands that offer such high quality playgrounds. Marshmallow Park Playspace is one of these superb playgrounds that offer younger children hours of entertainment whilst still having some equipment that will keep the older ones happy as well.

This playground offers a perfect mix of traditional play equipment and nature play, which should offer opportunities for social interaction and motor skill development.

Outside the fenced area there is plenty more, with another great climbing frame sitting across the gorgeous bridge that spans the fully redeveloped waterway area. With a centrepiece of a giant teepee, heaps of climbing rocks, natural landscapes and open grassy areas (and another 2 free electric bbqs) this area is great for older kids, nature play or family get togethers on the lawns (which also include a grassy mound for rolling down!). Please take care outside the fenced area as there is often water in the waterway.

Keep exploring and you’ll note the area has extended its paved bikeways and has added bike racks to deal with the anticipated higher numbers of bike riders. The tennis/basketball courts have had new, free, push button lighting added so you can keep the family active longer as the days get shorter.

New toilets, water fountains and additional seating, shelters and free BBQs finish this brilliant playspace off perfectly. Still as shady as ever with the gorgeous trees, Marshmallow Park is going straight to the top of our 91ý playground favourites and we are sure you’ll love it there too!

Located in the parklands off Glen Osmond Road, the fully fenced Marshmallow Park Playspace is shaded by an enormous Morton Bay Fig Tree, fantastic for those sunny days.

You can park on Glen Osmond Road between 10am and 3pm or alternatively ride your bikes along the Parklands trail. Marshmallow is very close to Glover South Playground on South Terrace, Kurranga BMX tracks across Unley Rd, and the Himeji Gardens across the road – making ‘park hopping’ easy.

What we love:

  • The integration of Nature play elements alongside the more traditional swings, slides and climbing frames.
  • The nice wide slide that can fit multiple kids on at once, and the well spaced wood and stone steps to get up there.
  • The fantastic water play area that includes a huge waterplay hill plus a number of water pumps and tables to play with – some of which can be accessed from wheelchairs or other mobility devices. Take note though – the pumps on the hill require kids to be pretty close to activate – you push down on the tall mushroom button and the water comes out of the top of the mushroom. This means that kids are almost certain to get wet when activating the water pumps!
  • For older kids the existing big climbing frame has remained after the renovation, with a variety of attractions. Our 11 year old niece still enjoys it which is rare for a playground these days. (Beware: our 2 & 4 year olds also want to go on it and it’s not designed for safe use by younger kids).
  • The park is large and the main fenced play area has a lot of shade, sometimes even too much on a cold winter day. But in summer it’s lovely under the trees, and in winter you can get some sun in the other areas of this large park.
  • We love that they kept the multi-seated swing with spots for mum, dad, and a few kids to all go on at once (or a bunch of kids!)
  • The new metal jellyfish are super cool for climbing under and exploring.
  • Drinking fountain available.
  • Plenty of tables and seating for families.
  • There are new toilets located onsite. One is the all access, self flushing kind – BUT they outside the fenced area so you may need to take all your kids if you’re there on your own. Luckily the large one can fit the whole family!
  • Carefully cross Glen Osmond Road and keep walking straight ahead about 80m and you’ll find the beautiful Japanese Himeji Gardens – an absolute oasis in the middle of 91ý.
  • There are 3 new FREE electric BBQs – two in the fenced area and one over near the wooden climbing frame on the other side of the bridge. One of the main ones caters for wheelchair users.
  • A tennis/basketball court, which is open for community use, just outside the fence. It now includes lighting for evening games which is great!
  • The playground is surrounded by the open green spaces 91ý Parklands offer.
  • A short ride (maybe 500m) across the parklands to the South West and across Unley Road is the awesome BMX tracks of Kurranga BMX tracks so bring the bikes along and you could seriously spend the day in the local area.

Things to consider:

  • Make sure you bring a complete change of clothes for the water play area. There is a LOT of water play options and the way its set up, kids are very likely to get wet shoes and clothes in this new park!
  • The huge Moreton Bay fig in the middle of the park can block out a lot of sun in the colder months and does drop seeds that babies love to put in their mouth!
  • Parallel parking is on the busy Glen Osmond Road – so you might want the kids to all enter/exit the car from the passenger side.
  • If you dont know it’s there it can be easily missed. Check out the map below and look out for the silver curb-side public toilet on the left of Glen Osmond Road about 200m before the intersection of Pulteney St.

Glover East Playground (Park 15) 91ý /east-terrace-glover-adelaide-park-15/ /east-terrace-glover-adelaide-park-15/#respond Sat, 11 Mar 2023 10:07:46 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=28269 Find it at: 120 East Terrace, 91ý

Set among the existing trees, along with some new ones, the city council did an amazing job back in 2018 revamping the existing Ityamai Itpina East Terrace Glover Playground also known as Park 15. We love that this playground caters to a variety of ages and has something for everyone. The main stage of the play space are the wooden houses located in the middle of the playground.

These are awesome cubby houses on stilts that cater for different ages as each has its only challenges and climbing obstacles, ranging from ladders to climbing nets to stairs. The catch is you need to climb something to use either the tubular slide or the dual slide so smaller kids will need constant help.

Connected by a rope bridge, the cubby houses are also great for imaginative play. Surrounding the wooden cubbies you will find lots of green mounds for the kids to run up or around along with inground trampolines scattered around the playground for the kids to enjoy. The park features a nest swing along with another swing set that features a baby swing.

As the kids continue to move around they park they will also find a LOT of other climbing equipment and lots of spiderwebs to weave in and out of. There are also lots of other pieces of equipment for climbing on scattered around the grounds more suitable for the younger ones. On the far side of the playground there are additional mounds in the ground for kids to weave in and out of or use their imagination with play and games. You will just need to keep a close eye out as the toilet block is located in the centre of the playground so you cant see both sides of the play areas.

The playground has toilets, it is fenced off on the road sides and has BBQ facilities with picnic tables.

The only down side is that there is no shade on the actual play equipment, but there are plenty of trees in the lower half of the playground. As the new trees grow this will help a little in the actual play equipment area.

There are lots of coffee shops and cafes along Hutt St for food and drinks. Please be mindful that CBC school is located across the road from this playground and uses the space for recess and lunch play. It can be quite busy during these times especially for the little ones as this is quite a spread out playground.
