The eagle has landed at Morialta Playground… in a 7 metre tall nest – and your kids can climb it! Yep, the Morialta Conservation Park playground is AWESOME! Best suited to kids aged 5-15years, it is great to see a play area perfect for older families. With over 100 car parks and walking trails to guide you, it makes a visit to the park even easier to navigate for families.

The stunningly designed, HUGE and super fun playground has been designed with a Nature Play theme, with elements from Aboriginal culture. This super impressive nature playground features five themed play areas that are built across the Stradbroke Road picnic area. Come ready to explore Frog Island, Eagle’s Perch, Great Snake, Bird Nests and climbing boulders, as well as paths, creeks, rock walls and climbing trees.

Please be aware that the Morialta Playground isn’t fenced, has a nearby creek and road and has plenty of areas where you’ll have to keep a hand &/or close eye on kids with high falls possible etc which makes it less suitable for younger kids but awesome fun for older ones!

Things we love about Morialta Playground:

• The whole playground is all about nature – incorporating natural elements and materials all around,
• The massive snake structure that kids can play in & on (if they are big and brave enough!),
• The GIANT Birds Nests with rope ladders, walkways, and log frames – and a giant metal slide from the biggest one!
• The HUGE expanse – this play area is actually 4 distinct spaces located next to each other in the Morialta Conservation Park,
• The featured wood carving works by local Kaurna Indigenous sculptor Allan Sumner,
• The creek – our kids LOVE to ‘search for creatures’ in the creek – so many hours spent here!,
• The short walk to the Morialta First Falls waterfall – you can even take the pram there and our 2 year old can handle the walk,
• The climb to the Giants Cave – only about 50 steps up and a great view down the valley.
• Koala spotting – we have never visited without spotting at least 1 or 2 koalas!

There are BBQs, toilets, shaded table and bench seats all around the area and solid under cover areas.

** please note that there is unrestricted/unfenced access to the creek that often flows and runs close by the playground area. It is also unfenced to Stradbroke Rd, which is about 50-80m from the Playspace.

Mount Barker Summit

Did you know Mount Barker had an actual Mountain…..that you can climb? Mount Barker Summit rises 513m above sea level and the summit is easily reached by a range of hiking trails. The Mount Barker Summit walk is one of the 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Hills’ best-kept secrets for families. Just a 40-minute drive from 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, this easy adventure is perfect for little explorers, grandparents and everyone in between.

The short summit trail is only 500 metres return from the car park, making it ideal for younger kids or anyone wanting a quick nature fix. The gently undulating path leads to the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views across the 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Hills, Mount Barker township and beyond. On a clear day, you can even spot the Coorong and Mount Lofty in the distance.

Along the way you’ll find picnic tables and plenty of space to stop for a snack while soaking up the scenery. Kids will love climbing the rocks, spotting birds and native plants, and exploring the small nature play cubby near the lookout. Keep an eye out for the interpretive signs that share the area’s fascinating geological, cultural and environmental history, including its significance to the Peramangk people.

Feeling like a little more adventure? Families with older children can continue on the 1.7-kilometre Scenic Bush Walk, a loop trail that winds through beautiful native bushland with even more lookout points and opportunities to spot local wildlife.

Need to know:

• Easy 500m return walk to the summit.
• Free entry.
• Picnic tables available.
• Dogs are permitted on lead.
• Bring hats, sunscreen and water, especially in warmer months.
• The summit car park gates are locked before dusk, so plan your visit earlier in the day.

Located on Mount Barker Summit Road at Mount Barker (about 5mins from the Main Street of Barker and all the coffee shops!), it is open 8:00am until 6:00pm (until 8:00pm during daylight savings) and is a breathtaking spot to visit during winter when there is morning fog about.

South Australia has some really great little water parks and water slides, however a lot of them are hidden in various tourist parks and only available for use of their customers, it can be hard to find one that everyone can use, especially with out paying.

A real family holiday fave hot spot, the water park is able to be used by kids (and adults…well nobody told me off) of all ages and abilities. My youngest was a little shy at first but he was covered by the little slide in the park. The eldest kids (and me) had a ball on the 4 big slides as well as the big water bucket. With plenty of seats and grassed areas to sit and watch the kids, as well as it all being fenced off, this just makes for a superb family arvo.

Once you finish at the water park you can wander the nearby beach and jetty, play in the adjacent enclosed playground or have a BBQ. There is plenty of shelter, public toilets and changing areas as well as coffee shops right across the road. Not hard to see why this place is so popular! as they may vary throughout the year as well.

Moonta Bay is just under two hours drive from 91¹û¶³´«Ã½.

Tucked away at 96 Tapleys Hill Road in Royal Park, B.Curious offers daily Creative Messy Play Sessions with two imaginative play spacesÌýfor children aged 1 to 5, running every weekday in a beautifully designed, intentionally calm environment.

These are not your average play café sessions. B.Curious Messy Play Sessions are slow-paced and sensory-rich, with carefully curated stations including playdough, water play, colour exploration, art and craft activities, and hands-on sensory trays. With a maximum of just 12 children per session, the space stays calm and unhurried, allowing kids to roam freely, choose their own activities, and explore without pressure.

Soft music, gentle lighting and small group sizes help even the most overwhelmed little ones settle quickly and start to shine. Every session runs for two hours, all materials are included, and the team handles the full clean-up, Ìýnot a single mess for parents to worry about.

Byethorne Park is a beautiful 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Hills playground located on Woodside Road in Nairne AND it’s had a great little upgrade in 2021 that includes a nature play area and a beautiful great big grassy kick around area, plus there are plans for more upgrades due for completion is late 2026. These include;

• Flying fox (track slider)
• Spinner
• Swing
• Giant treehouse system with slide
• Hammock
• Double embankment slide

The new equipment will be relocated closer to the newer playground and nature play area withthe existing area along the boundary fence will be returned to a natural passive space.

The nature play elements blend beautifully with the existing equipment that includes a climbing spiders web, flying fox, drums, bouncers and lots of interesting play equipment for the kids to discover.

The park features a lovely duck filled lake in the centre. Make sure you know the . The playground is really well maintained and has a covered BBQ area that is close by, so the kids can play while you cook.

It’s a beautiful spot for a BBQ, picnic or just a new spot to take the kids for a good run around in the park. Fab wide open spaces and lots of fresh air, which the hills is so good for! Well worth the drive.

It’s also a popular spot for Rock Drops so keep your eyes peeled!

Stop in at Pallett Cafe, It’s only a couple of minutes from the park.
