The playground features;

  • Slide

A nice stop along the linear park to let the kids have a play following a walk or bike ride.

Harold and Cynthia Anderson Reserve Playground /harold-cynthia-anderson-reserve/ /harold-cynthia-anderson-reserve/#respond Wed, 02 Oct 2024 10:12:59 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=23208 This playground has been recently upgraded and includes some great new features!

  • Flying fox (ideal for 3+, it has a bit of a jolt at the end, so make sure little hands can hold on)
  • Baby and toddler swings, plus “big kids” swing and swinging basket
  • 2 playground structures, one aimed more at 1-3 year olds and one for 3+
  • A ‘spinning wheel’ with 3 grip bars that the kids spent AGES on. A big hit!

Key features we also liked were…

  • Bike path running from Glenelg (or further south if you’re keen!) to Henley (or further north if you’re very fit!)
  • Lots of space to park
  • Plenty of grass to enjoy a picnic upon and some benches to rest, breast feed etc.
  • Easy access directly to beautiful West beach

Things to note:

  • The toilets are located a short walk from the playground, which is something to think about if you have multiple children or a toilet training toddler who needs to go “NOW!”
  • Make sure you pack hats as there’s minimal shade over the flying fox, swings and grassy area

Windsor/Pennington Reserve Playground /windsor-reserve-pennington/ /windsor-reserve-pennington/#respond Thu, 06 Feb 2020 03:45:01 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=39460 Find it at: Windsor Ave, Pennington

Windsor Reserve is a great little playground located in Pennington in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½’s Western suburbs. Bring your bikes and scooters to this one because there’s a great little bike path at this park as well as play equipment, lots of open space, tennis/basketball courts and a flying fox!

There are two playground areas to suit different ages. Toddler and smaller kids will love the slides and great set of swings and older kids will love the big rope climb, spinner and flying fox!

As well as the equipment and bike track this park has a small half pipe, exercise equipment, tennis court and basketball hoops. It’s got a little bit of everything!

There’s a small undercover area and BBQs. No shade over the equpment but there’s trees around to escape the sun and no toilets.

West Beach Skate & BMX Park /west-beach-skate-bmx-park/ /west-beach-skate-bmx-park/#respond Sun, 28 Apr 2019 11:53:29 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=37692 We have officially found our favourite skate park in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ and it’s at West Beach Skate and BMX Park (PS – if you know a better one please let us know!). With something to suit just about every level of rider we love that our little beginners can scoot and skate somewhere where they can also watch and learn from those a lot older with awesome skills.

Right next to the building that houses the toilets, covered tables and DaKlinic shop is a small skate bowl. With a graduated entrance, even the newest novices can find somewhere to enter and learn some skills. The bowl deepens to an intermediate level and you’ll find most of the novice/intermediate skaters and scooters here, including many with great skills just learning new tricks.

West Beach Skate and BMX Park also houses a huge half pipe where beginners and experts alike can be found (usually not at the same time though!). There are also a few grind boards and rails spread around the whole park area, with varying degree of difficulty.

And just a few metres away is a huge bowl – we have only seen some pretty serious skateboards riding in here on our recent visits, and note that our kids could hardly even climb out again when they did dare to go in! But for those with skills it looks awesome 🙂

Just across the small carpark there is also a small BMX park. With 2 tracks, both catering to kids who are confident beginners or intermediate riders there is some fun to be had on the bikes here. Not as good as the Kurrangga tracks in the CBD, but we have spent an hour or two riding here in addition to the skate park recently. This area also has covered tables and chairs for watching parents 🙂

On many weekends the small on-site shop opens where you can grab drinks, snacks and skate gear and they play some cool tunes which adds a great feel. We have found other skaters at West Beach Skate Park to be really cool and welcoming to our kids which is great to see them helping out the younger generation.

Check out other bike and skate parks on this page HERE

West Beach Skate Park is located On Africaine Road, West Beach. Just off Tapley’s Hill Road where it crosses the Patawalonga River.

Dove Street Reserve Playground, Thebarton /dove-street-reserve-thebarton/ /dove-street-reserve-thebarton/#respond Mon, 29 Oct 2018 14:23:58 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=30538 Find it at: Dove Street, Thebarton

Grab some picnic eats from George Street Foodland, Sushi from The Brickworks or a ridiculously good coffee from Ìý´Ç°ù all very near by, and hit up this little FENCED GEM that we discovered tucked away in the quieter streets Thebarton.

Dove Street Reserve has had a ‘do over’ and it’s looking great!

We LOVE a flying fox here at Kids in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ and this one doesn’t disappoint. I’m calling it a ‘just right fox’ – not too crazy, not too lame and an absolute highlight for the bigger kids.

The fully fenced play area sits to the side of a lovely big grassed area complete with cute rotunda shelter and a path suitable for balance bikes or young scooter riders.

While there is no man made shades, the trees cast good coverage from the late afternoon sun.

Features we rated highly were seats INSIDE and outside of the fence, a drink fountain, tables and bbq’s (no shelter shed), bins, occasional plane spotting, 2 wobbly bridges, a small persons climbing wall, toilets RIGHT THERE, quiet street with easy parking, every thing was new and in working order too – that gets a tick.

A good choice of three swings, with a toddler seat, normal swing and one of those cool big round swings that the older kids can really get moving! Kids were perhaps a little underwhelmed at the functionality of the large rope worm structure (technical name?) but did enjoy just climbing and sitting on it.

We managed to make our selves nicely dizzy on the merry go round, and the two year old in our company enjoyed the new age spring sea saw. Speaking of toddlers – there is a small toddler slide – but design fail – the toddler steps appear to be on the mid sized slide and the little tackers get a hard to negotiate, high, three step lily pad type set up.

My four year old could manage most things here, with help on the flying fox and the exception of the very high monkey bars that even my super springy 8 year old couldn’t jump up to (sigh – prepare for lifting.)

There is a small web climb, a cool fireman’s pole and if bark chips were actually money we could all surely pay our mortgages thanks to City of West Torrens and I still doubt they would notice – ie; plentiful. Not every ones favourite surface, but a damn sight better than the asphalt we had as kids in some ways.

Completing the set up is a full sized basketball backboard and small playing surface/key, out side of the fence.

In all we love what they have done with this park and it is a welcome transformation from a couple of years ago. Plus did I mention how good the local coffees are? Mister Sunshines or The Deli – tell them Kids in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ sent you!

Falcon Ave Reserve Playground, Mile End /falcon-ave-reserve-mile-end/ /falcon-ave-reserve-mile-end/#respond Sun, 15 Apr 2018 06:31:22 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=25849 Find it at: Falcon Ave, Mile End

This little park nestled in the quiet suburb of Mile end is located on the sight of the former Thebarton Neighbourhood House and is a peaceful little local nature play area.

As soon as you arrive at the park you are greeted by a large tortoise and wombat nestled in the sand play area which straight away brings a smile to the kids faces. Huge steel sculptures along with wooden posts are also amongst the mix that the kids can weave in and out of allowing for lots of imaginative play and fun.

The park also features a swing set including baby swing along with a wooden and ropes climbing piece including a slippery dip. A few bouncy animals pieces for the kids to have fun on can also be found in the sand area and a small bike track is also featured surrounded by shrubs and small trees.

This reserve is the first of several reserves in West Torrens to feature a geocache . What is Geocaching I hear you say? “Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a GPS receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches”, at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.”

This is very much a local play area suited for toddlers or kindy aged kids. This reserve has no shade, no toilets or shade cloth but does have a gazebo with a picnic table and BBQ facilities. I loved the vibe of this play space and what the council have created for the local community.
