This fab little playground had several upgrades through 2024 and 2025. This place is a fantastic local facility, with a shaded modern playground full of unique climbing areas for the kids to explore. The whole playground is shaded by sails in fact, with a number of play areas with a range of equipment to suit most ages.

Throw in a fantastic oval, basketball court, pump track and tennis court facilities, and this precinct becomes a one stop shop for a fab arvo for the locals. Plenty of off street parking, BBQ facilities, toilets and water fountains round off a nice little spot.

Thanks to Surface Contractors Australia for the images of the courts.

Aldinga Skate Park /aldinga-skate-park/ /aldinga-skate-park/#respond Mon, 28 Apr 2025 04:52:59 +0000 /?p=160801 Aldinga Skate Park is the perfect spot for kids, teens, and even parents to enjoy some active fun together, with the 2025 built skate park part of a long term vision to redevelop the Aldinga. Skate Park

The park is thoughtfully designed by CONVIC (A world leader in skate park and youth space design and construction) with all skill levels in mind. Younger children can safely practice on the gentle slopes and wide open areas, while more experienced skaters can tackle the bowl, rails, and stair set. The smooth concrete surface makes learning new skills easier and safer.

The park includes:

  • skate bowl and street skating that is capable of hosting events and competitions
  • lighting
  • irrigated turf for seating and viewing
  • a shelter with benches
  • footpaths and car park

Surrounded by grassy spaces, shady trees, and plenty of seating, it’s easy for families to relax and watch the action. Pack a picnic or grab a bite from one of the nearby cafés — the beautiful Aldinga Beach is just a short stroll away for a perfect day out.

  • Shelter with BBQ
  • Outdoor gym
  • Partially fenced
  • Pump track (at nearby reserve)
  • Double flying fox

Jervois Street Reserve Playground South Plympton /jervois-street-reserve-playground-south-plympton/ /jervois-street-reserve-playground-south-plympton/#respond Tue, 18 Mar 2025 09:34:26 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=12040 Find it at: 43 Jervois Street, South Plympton

Jervois Street Playground in South Plympton is up there with Morialta and Glenunga as one of our favourite playgrounds in 91¹û¶³´«Ã½. Some of the Jervois Street Reserve highlights are:

  • Fully fenced junior playground with lots to keep the little ones happy including double slides, a ‘bird’s nest’ swing, regular and baby swing, sandpit and a water play feature with pump action water pump and gorgeous water channel.
  • An older kids playground with mini flying fox, wooden/rope climbing frames, basketball and netball rings.
  • A number of areas for skating, scooting and riding bikes, including a ‘trike track’ which our balance biker loved!
  • A mountain bike/BMX path through behind the basketball court that our kids LOVED.
  • A small covered seating area, FREE electric BBQ and all-access toilet (1 large self-flushing).
  • A large grassed area for open play, ball games and dog lovers.
  • A fitness node with equipment designed for all ages.
  • Pickup a drive through coffee at the On-The-Run on Marion Road just a few hundred metres from the Reserve! 🙂

Jervois Street Reserve is a wonderful, open play space and you can definitely tell that a lot of thought and community involvement went into creating it. There is a gorgeous junior playground area which is fully fenced and caters well to the smaller members of the family. With a great double slide ideal for kids ages 1+, it allows younger kids the ability to make her way up the softfall climbing hill by herself, rather than having any ladders around. Plenty of natural wood and rock climbing options, a bird’s nest swing plus regular swing and ‘gated’ baby swings, music drums, a huge sandpit with sunshade, water play area and 2 cool sandtables with fixed attachments are all part of the fun. Our kids LOVED that the tunnel through the hill has the added fun of being made to look like a caterpillar hole through a giant green apple – just like The Very Hungry Caterpillar! With a number of wooden seats for parents to take a break knowing their kids are enjoying themselves (& fenced in!), we are giving this little kids playground a big thumbs up!

Weigall Oval Playground, Plympton /weigall-oval-playspace-plympton/ /weigall-oval-playspace-plympton/#respond Tue, 05 Nov 2024 02:46:31 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=27811 Find it at: Oval Terrace, Plympton

This is another great example of mixing nature based play elements (water play, rocks and balancing logs) with playground favourites (slides, swings, flying fox)

There’s wooden structures to climb, ropes to balance on, water to splash in, sand to build in. The natural elements are really inviting and the kids were having a ball.

There’s a good mix of toddler and older kids equipment with a small and big slide, separate toddler play area with sand pit, swings and flying fox for the big ones. There’s also some work out equipment if you fancy burning a few calories while the kids play.
The space itself is big open and grassy with lots of room to kick a ball, run around or have a picnic. (not a lot of shade though unfortunately) There’s bike tracks and tennis courts and stage 2 of the upgrade includes upgrading the existing soccer and baseball facilities.
Weigall Oval is located in the southern part of the City of West Torrens, in the suburb of Plympton. The entrance to the complex is on Urrbrae Terrace and the site is not far from the intersection of Anzac Highway and Marion Road

Aldridge Ave Reserve, Plympton Park /aldridge-ave-reserve-plympton-park/ /aldridge-ave-reserve-plympton-park/#respond Thu, 11 Jul 2024 10:22:24 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=45074 Find it at: Aldridge Avenue, Plympton Park

Located in Plympton Park Aldridge Ave Reserve is a great little local playground and suitable for the nearby community or if you happen to be in the area. The playground suits toddler and early school age kids but also has 2 sports courts to cater for the older ones. The curly slippery dip was certainly our favourite and was definitely the reason our stay was extended just that little bit longer with a “just one more Mum”. We love the steps with handrails that take you to the slide as it makes it a bit more user-friendly and safer for the little ones who are not as steady on their feet. Attached to the main structure is a spider web for climbing along with hanging balancing beads. Underneath you will also find a little shop for imaginative play and a mini rock climbing wall.

Not far away from the main structure features a mini see-saw, stand up spinning pole and a swing set with normal swing and baby swing. The sports courts are suitable for tennis, netball and basketball and there is a little bike / scooter track that circles the courts.

The park has a picnic table with shelter , the play equipemt is shaded and there are BBQ facilities and a water fountain. There is grassed area for the kids to run around on however it is quite dry. This park unfortunately has NO toilets and is NOT fenced . A nice little play space for a quick play.

Located just off Main Road down at the stunning McLaren Vale, this stunning reserve is home to one of the most picturesque playgrounds down south, especially when the trees are in bloom.

With a climbing sphere, swings, plenty of grass and did we mention the nearby tank (which is always a show stopper), this precinct makes for a great stop and leg stretch on your McLaren Vale day trip.

The larger precinct also has BBQs, tennis courts and a BMX track! The larger area includes toilets and plenty of grassed areas to sit down with your fruchocs (its compulsory to visit the Fruchoc Shop at McVale) and soak in the serenity.

Happy Valley Reservoir /happy-valley-reservoir/ /happy-valley-reservoir/#respond Mon, 13 Dec 2021 08:43:14 +0000 /?p=86759 Where: Chandlers Hill Road, Happy Valley

After 120 odd years of just sitting there doing nothing besides provide us with an unlimited supply of clean drinking water (boring), Happy Valley Reservoir is open for activities! And wow haven’t the public taken to it like a toddler to a pack of unattended textas.

With almost 20km of trails, perfect for mixed uses including running, mountain biking, hiking (lots of it is pram friendly too!), this is going to be a really exciting community space for the south. We also hear that a Park Run is planned for the area which would be fantastic for the runners and walkers out there.

But the real treat here is the Kayaking. With a number of launch points, the facilities here are fantastic, with toilets located along the 2x Chandlers Hill car parks as well as in 2x locations on the Happy Valley Drive side.

For the hikers, choose from a range of well signed tracks, from 2km loops all the way up to the 11km Shoreline Loop.

Kayakers – You will find your launch points at the 2 Chandlers Hill Road entry points.

Fishing is allowed (woo hoo!) but you can’t use stand up paddleboards or water toys here.

So what are you waiting for? Get out the kayak and enjoy your new Summer playground.
