Little Library Opening Weekend
Join us for a weekend of celebration on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August and be among the first to step inside Little Library.
A whole world made just for kids, Little Library is a place where stories hide in unexpected places, curiosity is always welcome and imaginations are free to wander, wonder and discover.
Designed for children aged 0 to 11, it is a space to read, talk, sing and play, helping little people grow a lifelong love of books, stories and learning. Inspired by Words Grow Minds research into early childhood development, Little Library brings together the very best of reading, play and discovery in one joyful space. Visitors can browse and borrow from a carefully chosen collection of much-loved children’s books, settle in for a story, join a song, enjoy a quiet moment with a stack of favourites or simply explore at their own pace.

Our Little Library folk, the Bookworms, have hidden bookmarks with a QR bringing you to this page to RSVP to the opening weekend event! If you haven’t found a bookmark yet, visit your local library or the Morlock Chamber here at the State Library to discover one!
During the opening weekend visits to Little Library are by timed-entry booking, giving every family space to explore, play and discover together. And that’s just the beginning.
Across both days, the rest of the State Library will be filled with free drop-in activities for families. Follow the fun through the building with stories to stumble upon, things to make, games to play, places to dance and surprises waiting around every corner. Book your Little Library session, then stay and enjoy the opening weekend festivities before or after your visit. You might spend an hour with us, or you might spend the whole day. Either way, we’ll save a place for you.
