How about one with a secret garden and where kids eat free on Thursday evenings as a nice little bonus! Oh, and make it Spanish!! in Hahndorf is a standout choice that caters to both kids and adults with its inviting atmosphere and diverse menus. The real gold can be found out the back if you are dining as a family. The garden is beautiful year round, and how stress free is eating with kids outdoors?

Despite the iconic street presence in the main street of Hahndorf, not every one knows about the magical spacious garden setting out the back, this area is absolutely perfect for to enjoy a relaxed meal while the kids explore and play, or to host your next celebration. Is there any thing better than room for them to stretch their legs away from the table and catch some fresh air in between arriving, maybe pop a cartwheel and then order and eat? We don’t think so. There are also indoor and deck / verandah areas for seating, but book under a tree or umbrella is our advice.

The menu is Spanish and vibrant, with some more familiar options for the kids like pizza, pasta and crumbed chicken and chips. Who can pass up paella and sangria on a sunny afternoon? Not us. ACtually this visit we opted in for the feed me style menu and it didn’t disappoint in value, variety and just general tasty awesomeness.

Comida is open from 9am daily (closed Tuesdays) and serves up Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. All menus aim to use the freshest local and seasonal produce, which means the menu changes are quite frequent. The absolute stand outs for us were sharing tapas, the classic paella de comida and the paella de mariner. It goes without saying that we also inhaled several serves of sweet, warm churros. Always a winner.

The kids were delighted when I told them to look for resident bunny rabbits in the garden, adding an extra layer of fun and excitement as they spotted a couple of these adorable animals hopping about. It’s fair to say Comida is more than just a place to eat; it’s a family-friendly destination that delivers a fun, warm, welcoming environment for all ages.

The thoughtful design of the Spanish garden space, coupled with engaging activities like bunny spotting and indulging in churros, makes it an ideal choice for a memorable family outing. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a casual meal, Comida in Hahndorf ensures a really enjoyable experience for everyone.

Keep an eye on their social media (linked below) for regular events and entertainment, and don’t overlook this beautiful spot if you need a stylish venue for that 30th, 40th, 50th birthday party you owe to your self to celebrate! Image it as a wedding venue? Yes…..that’s an option here too!

Mick O’Shea’s Hotel, Hackham /mick-osheas-hotel-hackham/ /mick-osheas-hotel-hackham/#respond Sat, 29 Nov 2025 02:22:37 +0000 /?p=94706 Mick O’Shea’s has had a serious glow-up, and it’s officially stepped into its ā€œultimate family hangoutā€ era. The refreshed beer garden, brand-new outdoor bar and expanded pavilion have given the place a breezy, holiday-afternoon vibe while still keeping all the cosy charm of a classic Irish pub. Inside, you’ll still find the warm hospitality and hearty pub meals you know and love, but outside is where the magic happens. Think loads of space for long lunches, family celebrations or a relaxed arvo while the kids run (and climb, and slide) to their heart’s content.

What really makes Mick’s shine for families is how intentionally the whole outdoor area has been set up with kids (and sanity-seeking parents) in mind. The fully fenced playground sits right next to the outdoor seating, meaning you can sip, snack or sneak a moment of peace while the kids play safely in full view. Add in a big grassy area with picnic benches and umbrellas, plus comfy couches, tables and bar stools under cover, and suddenly you’ve got a spot that works whether you’re wrangling toddlers, entertaining big kids or juggling both.

Then there’s the fun stuff and Mick’s delivers it in spades. Free mini-golf (four holes of pure kid joy), Sunday kids’ entertainment that ranges from face-painting and balloon twisting to petting zoos and magic shows, and one of the best kids’ menus going around. Everything is $15 or less and comes with a drink, and the ā€œJunior Ploughmanā€ – cheesy garlic bread, grilled chicken, shaved ham and fruit — was such a hit with our crew we saw multiple kids at nearby tables demolishing theirs too. Worth noting, kids eat free on Monday and Tuesday evenings, one child per paying accompanying adult.

Great food, loads of space, relaxed vibes and plenty to keep the kids happy equals a no-brainer family outing. Lunch or dinner, sunshine or showers, Mick O’Shea’s just works. If you haven’t visited this southern institution since the renovation, bump it to the top of your list — it’s absolutely worth the trip.

Mosaic Hotel West Lakes /mosaic-hotel-west-lakes/ /mosaic-hotel-west-lakes/#respond Thu, 23 Jan 2025 07:05:07 +0000 /?p=158735 In the reborn AAMI Stadium (or Footy Park for those old enough to remember) precinct, the Mosaic Hotel and Hey Caddy at West Lakes (plus X Golf) offers a fabulously unique combination for a family friendly night out.

Go on a Monday for lunch or dinner and you can get one FREE kids meal, including a soft drink and ice-cream with every adult meal purchased PLUS 9 holes of Hey Caddy mini-putt for FREE!

Spacious and modern, Mosaic offers a number of comfortable seating areas, all of which are family-friendly and suitable for younger kids. We landed on the big booths, which gave Mr. 4 ample space for his impromptu gymnastics session, with the natural light offsetting the cosy yet stylish decor perfectly.

The kids’ menu is available 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner and features favourites like nuggets, fish and chips, and pasta. It’s everything parents could hope for in a child-friendly menu, complete with the bonus of a free ice cream and soft drink with every meal. The little ones will be thrilled! And if they need a little encouragement to finish their dinner, the promise of mini-golf upstairs is sure to do the trick!

For the grown-ups, Mosaic Hotel delivers just as well. The restaurant prides itself on supporting South Australian producers, and it shows in the quality of every dish. From fresh salads to hearty mains, the menu is packed with flavour and variety. The fantastic drinks menu is another highlight, with a great selection of SA wines, craft beers, and cocktails, making it a treat for parents to enjoy alongside their meal.

Adding to its appeal is the flexibility of all-day dining, meaning you can drop in for a bite anytime without worrying about the clock. But what really makes the experience stand out for families is the chance to head upstairs after your meal, where kids can enjoy 9 holes of mini-golf at Hey Caddy. It’s a brilliant way to keep them entertained while you kick back and relax. It doesn’t get more family-friendly than that.

The Mosaic Hotel and Hey Caddy combo is a fantastic addition to West Lakes, offering the perfect mix of delicious food, a relaxed atmosphere, and entertainment for all ages. Come in, grab a bite, and experience a taste of SA while the kids have a blast. We couldn’t recommend it more!

Fasta Pasta South Terrace /fasta-pasta-south-terrace/ /fasta-pasta-south-terrace/#respond Sun, 04 Aug 2024 04:27:47 +0000 /?p=143496 Taking the kids to Fasta Pasta for a quality meal has been a South Australian staple for decades, and we are going to tell you why the South Terrace restaurant in 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ CBD is hands down the best one for families!

Everyone has a favourite dish (personally my first every Chicken Parmy was at a Fasta Pasta when I was a kid!) From the pastas to pizza, salads and schnitzels. Whatever takes your fancy, Fasta Pasta will have something to offer even the fussiest of kids. Better yet it really is hard to beat the value, with an adult lunch meal (5 choices on offer) setting you back $10.90 and kids eat free on Monday and Tuesday (with every main meal).

Outside of the kids eat free days, the kids meals at only $9.90 which include a drink and ice cream, make it a really good value outing we think. The South Terrace location offers some really unique features which are sure to make us head back again and again, including the food delivering robot! Yep you read that right, they have a robot which brings the food right to your table. Book me in. It can even talk and sing ‘Happy Birthday’. Incredible times we live in. Popular for parties and other group bookings, the robot is certainly one of those core memory moments your kids will remember forever.

Choose from indoor or atrium seating, all offering comfort and space for everyone. We love the atrium, which is fully enclosed and offers superb natural light as you watch the world go past on Pulteney Street. The kids can choose from a great range on the kids menu, which doubles as a colouring / activity sheet (we love a spot that caters to keeps the kids busy and off the devices), and there is even an option for the kids to make their own pasta dish!

For parking we found it super easy, stopping just at the top of Glen Osmond Road which is conveniently right next to Marshmallow Park playground. Better yet are the range of playgrounds on South Terrace, right across the road from the restaurant. Perfect for the kids to run off that big pasta lunch!

Great value, tasty food, friendly staff and right next to top class playgrounds. What more could you want we say!

The Original Pancake Kitchen /pancake-kitchen/ /pancake-kitchen/#respond Wed, 12 Oct 2022 01:35:00 +0000 /?p=53624 A South Australian icon for more than 55 years, the Pancake Kitchen always makes me nostalgic for my childhood. It was so exciting to head to that nook of Gilbert St & be allowed to eat pancakes for dinner! I can still smell the maple syrup & remember looking at the menu wondering who on earth would eat bacon on pancakes (adult me, that’s who). Does anyone else remember the jukebox out in the back room? The original Spotify!

It may have changed a bit since then, but The Original Pancake Kitchen is still a hit with kids & makes the perfect family dining spot. It is also now in THREE different locations across 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½. The original Gilbert St restaurant has had little pancake babies (pikelets?) & is now also found in Modbury & now inside the Marion Cultural Centre.

Of course, it goes without saying that the pancakes are amazing. There are so many different options to choose from including sweet & savory options in small, regular or tall stacks. If pancakes aren’t your thing, you can grab something from the all-day breakfast menu or is you need some meat on your plate, Pancake Kitchens also double as a Smokehouse restaurant too! And um, excuse me but there’s milkshakes for the kids and COCKTAILS for us adults. The kids AND adults really will be delighted.

Now that the Marion Pancake Kitchen is open too, we popped in there for dinner & were not disappointed! There are colouring sheets for the kids to keep them busy while you wait for your meals (which won’t be long, service was super speedy), friendly staff & a lovely casual atmosphere, with the Marion Library there onsite too!

And just in case you’re still not convinced – Kids Eat Free every Monday. Tuesday & Wednesday at all PK’s locations from 4 pm – 7 pm.

They also do birthday parties.

TGI Fridays – Marion & TTP /tgi-fridays-marion-ttp/ /tgi-fridays-marion-ttp/#respond Tue, 27 Sep 2022 09:50:32 +0000 /?p=96796 Full disclosure: this post is drool-inducing and may result in failed diets and sudden urges to get in your car and drive to the nearest TGI Fridays venue.

But in all honesty, we can’t think of a better place in 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ to shamelessly fill your face devouring a kilo of chicken wings than TGI Fridays. Here, we can loose ourselves in the cool, low-lit style and understated laid-back American vibe. Legend has it that ‘every day of the week feels like Friday’ at this quality restaurant and although coincidentally we were actually there on a Friday, we wholeheartedly agree. There promises to be something for everyone and the dining experience is everything you would expect from a group franchising more than 60 restaurants worldwide.

Our team recently ventured out for a meal at both 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ locations; Marion and Tea Tree Plaza and kinda’ wish we had a permanent table at both locations, you know, one with only our name on it! You’ll find each of their venues offer the kids an activity pack complete with stickers and crayons, just enough to keep them entertained while you spend a few minutes going over their extensive American style menu that will quite frankly, knock your socks off!

Grilling food since 1965, it’s safe to say, Fridays have had a lot of practise and while you can’t go wrong with any of the options, these guys are renown for their flame-grilled ribs and wings. We 100% recommend the bona fide taste of their signature glaze (made with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey) – a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy and a whole lotta’ deliciousness. Serving up hearty flavours and sizeable portions, demolishing a pimped up burger or chowing down on some more-ish Mozzarella Sticks is exactly how I imagine spending every Friday, or any day of the week for that matter.

The kids menu is fantastic, offering two child size portions; Stars (smaller serves, recommended for ages 1-4 years) and Stripes (standard kids serves, recommended for ages 5-12 years). Delighting both children and their parents, the options range from the faithful Chicken Nuggets to the most American of foods, the Hotdog. The importance of healthy eating is not forgotten either, with sides of Salad, Steamed Veggies or Sweet Potato Fries available. From Monday to Thursday, KIDS EAT FREE – a brilliant value add that we know our audience seek out and appreciate. Simply order a full priced adult meal and get a free kids meal (Minimum $25 spend). Not valid with any other offer.

Inside, the down-to-earth vibe is a modern interpretation of the classic American diner with scattered neon accents and exposed brick walls. Seating is a mix of muted brown booths, higher bar-style and traditional tables, as well as a bright and airy outdoor area. We loved the intimate nature of our booth, especially with younger kids. No one bat an eye lid when they crawled under the table to retrieve their “accidentally” dropped fries. Subtle much? The service was fantastic and ordering from the table using the QR code was a breeze. Or, if you’re old fashioned (like me), the staff are zealously friendly and will take your order with an enthusiastic smile.

MyFridays members can also take advantage of loads of special discounted promotions. It’s definitely worth a look. We loved the movie ticket offer for $1 with any $25 purchase (Marion only – and offer ends 31 October 2022). Not a member? You can sign up .

Before I leave you, let me touch on the dangerously tempting array of cocktails. If you’re keen for something a little fancier than a jug of coke, the happiest of hours (aka happy hour) are bloody brilliant. If $7 cocktails from 4-5 pm and $10 thereafter don’t guarantee a steady stream of loyal parents dying for an alcoholic beverage, I don’t know what will. Can I get an ‘Amen?’

It’s time to grab your fam-bam and pull up those elasticated pants (trust me) – you won’t regret it!

UPDATE (DECEMBER 2022) – TGI Fridays have just introduced a new Summer Menu and IT.IS.FABULOUS! Think delicious summer cocktails for us adults and fun summer sundaes for the kids. Their Summer Sundae is a fun beachy addition with vanilla ice cream, crunchy biscuit sand, blue heaven topping and gummy sharks – CUTE! They also have some great offers over summer:

✨ Mon to Thurs – With every full-price adult main meal, your little one can get a free meal with our Kids Eat Free offer

✨ Fri to Sun – They can enjoy a free limited-time Summer Sundae dessert with every full-price kids’ meal, available until 29 January

Alma Tavern /alma-tavern/ /alma-tavern/#respond Wed, 13 Apr 2022 06:54:00 +0000 /?p=135216 Famous in the Eastern suburbs, the Alma Tavern has been a staple for years, but did you know this beautifully renovated modern space offers plenty for families including KIDS EAT FREE on Monday! We called in for a family pub meal and checked out their extensive bright and on trend renovation and our bellies (and my wallet) were impressed.

Offering a number of well decorated seating areas surrounding the bar, plus a separate restaurant and enormous beer garden with fireplace and retractable roof, whatever space takes your fancy you really can’t go wrong. For us with under 5s, we chose the beer garden which allows the option of a number of booths (great to try and lock in those runaway toddlers) or seating around the 360 degree fire place (not the temperature we must clarify!). Watch the wood oven pizzas get made in the oven and check out the footy on the massive outdoor TV, on a nice day with the natural light beaming in, this really is a sensational spot for a feed.

The kids menu offers enough options to satisfy all the fussy toddlers out there, and you will find all the usual favourites here (hello nuggets and chips!). Well priced with a $16 kids meal deal serving up a meal, drink and dessert option for the under 12s. They offer the fantastic ‘Kid Eat Free’ deal with any adult meal purchase every Monday, which is music to our ears with the cost of living at the moment. They will be also launching a bottomless brunch option which will include bottomless milkshake and juice options for the kids! Brunch dining has also been added to the menu, with kids waffles to be a sure fire hit we expect.

You won’t find any playgrounds or arcade areas here, but what you will find is a high quality pub that welcomes families with open arms and allows a comfortable space for kids and parent alike to enjoy a high quality meal, and maybe even catch a game of footy on the big screen too. And if you’re looking for a pre or post meal play you’ll find some of our favourite Eastern suburbs playgrounds here
