It’s one of those places families keep coming back to because it’s great quality and always consistent. The kids will be excited, parents are happy, and no one feels like they’re in the wrong place with little people in tow. Whether it’s an after-school stop, a weekend outing or a casual family night out, St. Louis makes eating out with kids simple and fun.

They’ve recently introduced a new menu, including a section ‘Just for Kids’, and it’s so much more than a couple of scoops of ice cream. Hard to pick one favourite, both the Fairy Bread Brownie and the Mini Me Churros were stand outs for us. These desserts are colourful, playful and clearly designed with kids in mind, the kind of thing that feels special without being too over the top. It’s a great option for kids who love choosing something fun from the menu and for parents who appreciate a place that actually thinks about younger diners. It also doesn’t have to be a long dining experience, perfect in our opinion.

For the parents? Expect a sophisticated drinks menu (hello Biscoff Latte) and indulgent European desserts and gelato. Our favourite? The hot Classic Brookies, served to your table in a skillet. There’s also Croffles, Crepes, Churros, and light brunch options. The venues are licenced too.

You’ll find St. Louis stores right across 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ in eleven locations, so regardless of where you are, it’s going to be convenient. Find them in North 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, Glenelg, Hyde Park, Norwood, Gouger Street, Semaphore, Prospect, Elizabeth, Munno Para, Mawson Lakes and Tea Tree Plaza and also Brighton, a smaller gelato only stop. Each one has its own feel, but they all deliver the same friendly service and relaxed vibe that makes families feel welcome from the moment they walk in.

The beauty of St. Louis is that it doesn’t need to be a big occasion. It’s just as perfect for a quick cone, cup or take away coffee as it is for sitting down and taking time out. Whether you’re popping in for scoops, cones, coffee or making it a proper treat at the table with the kids, St Louis is one of those dependable 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ favourites that never disappoints. South Australian owned for the win too.

Payneham Tavern /payneham-tavern/ /payneham-tavern/#respond Fri, 20 Dec 2024 22:16:41 +0000 /?p=155916 Payneham Tavern is a fantastic, newly renovated family friendly restaurant that includes one of the best playrooms we have seen in a long time! A short distance from the city, the $4m rebuild has brought new life to this Payneham Road spot, which is ready and raring to go for a great Christmas season and beyond.

We do love a hospo venue with a playground that caters for families, but we will be the first to admit sometimes the sounds (screeching?) of a bunch of kids screaming in a confined room can be a tad overwhelming. It can be a lot, and it can genuinely impact the dining experience. Payneham Tavern’s design has put tremendous thought into ensuring everyone has an enjoyable experience, with a large alfresco dining area for families, complete with a fully fenced large playground. Fully weather proof, but designed to allow plenty of airflow and noise to escape, they have constructed a gorgeous family space that is comfortable, relaxing and allows parents to comfortably see their kids playing from a number of nearby tables. We took 2 under 5s to road test this one and for fear of sounding like a horrible parent, they were hardly sighted! The playground was such a hit, that for the first time in living memory the adults actually had a conversation.

Catering for not just families with a sports bar, large and spacious bistro as well as a beer garden, look out for event nights including regular Quiz nights (hosted by the talented 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ crew at ‘Funny Quiz’) and DJ events. For the meals, which is all important for our picky eaters, the totally renovated kitchen offers a bit more than the usual pub fare (don’t worry, the nugget fiends will still get there nuggs) which is nice to have a few extra options outside a parmy and chips. With kids meals coming in at $15 bucks also including a soft drink and ice cream, we found the options catered for our fussy crew nicely. They have clearly marked vegan, low dairy and low gluten options for the kids menu too, which we appreciated and made our job that much easier.

Every Sunday from 12-3pm is also family day, with a variety of activities to keep the kids entertained including;

  • Face Painting:ÌýTransform your child’s face into a superhero, princess, animal, or anything they can imagine!
  • Character Dress-Ups:ÌýMeet all your kids fave characters, from princesses and superheroes to friendly farm animals.
  • Animal Encounters:ÌýGet up close and personal with fascinating creatures like reptiles, birds, and small mammals.
  • Balloon Artists:ÌýWatch the balloon artists create all sorts of shapes and animals right before your eyes.

They have brought on a brand new team for the opening, who had three days of training to ensure the customer experience here is spot on. Overall, Payneham Tavern has delivered a high quality venue that has gone that extra yard to cater for families.

Zeea’s Eatery – Tony & Marks /zeeas-eatery-tony-marks/ /zeeas-eatery-tony-marks/#respond Fri, 10 May 2024 13:59:12 +0000 /?p=137238

Zeea’s Eatery, exclusive to the Tony & Marks retail experience, is basically the superhero of 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ dining spots for families. Picture this: you walk in with your squad of mini-humans, and instead of getting the side-eye from fellow diners, you’re greeted with sympathetic nods, quick, quality caffeine offerings and knowing smiles. Talk about seeking refuge in the comforting embrace of good fresh food and understanding company, with a side serve of epic kids offerings from breakfast to treats/snacks and of course lunch menu options.

Let’s talk about the menu – it’s like they’ve cracked the code to kid-friendly cuisine. They’ve got all the classics, from bacon and eggs to pancakes and toasties, guaranteed to make even the fussiest little critics nod in approval. We love the sensible sized milkshakes, babyccinos for little hands and kids pancakes. The kids portion sizes are perfect and keep the price really reasonable.

Team their locations (aside from Cavan) with the convenience of shopping fresh and fine produce and this place comes up a winner time and time again. You know the drill….. it’s Saturday morning, you’ve done the sports game, kids are starving and you need to tackle the grocery shop next? Zeea’s hits that scenario out of the park.

But the real MVP move? That designated play area at the Brickworks location. It’s like they knew we needed a break from refereeing sibling squabbles and negotiating with miniature dictators over broccoli consumption. So while we kick back and actually enjoy a hot meal for once, our little rascals can let loose in a space that’s basically kiddo heaven. So, cheers to Zeea’s Eatery – where tired parents find solace, kids find fun, and everyone leaves with full bellies and happy hearts.

High Street Cafe, Kensington /high-street-cafe-kensington/ /high-street-cafe-kensington/#respond Fri, 13 Oct 2023 22:09:56 +0000 /?p=92819 Picture this. You’ve been up most of the night with a teething baby and at 5 am, your 4-year-old decides it’s time to play. You feel so exhausted you wonder if it’s possible to fall asleep standing (the answer is no, FYI).

Cue a caffeine fix, because everything is just a bit (or a tonne) better with a great cup of coffee. The kids in tow will love so much, that meeting up with friends for a chinwag, will be a piece of cake. Sit back and relax – it’s the perfect pick-me-up!

Finding a cafe that does more than just tolerate mini customers but actively embraces them too, is such a breath of fresh air. This cosy cafe, while nicely decorated and extremely inviting, is located next to a long patch of green grass making the alfresco area the ideal spot for kids to play and run amok, albeit a little chilly in winter. The drawcard though, the one that makes kids want to return time and time again, is the variety of toys, blocks, books and outdoor games, including Quoits, Connect 4, and Checkers that the friendly staff set up outside. The outside area is at the end of a car park, adjacent to the Mary MacKillop College. During the day, it’s a very quiet space with minimal car movement. Closest to the car park, you’ll find tables and chairs set up, and then the 40-50 metres of large open space is opposite a dead-end road. Enough room for a game of “Chasey” or “What’s the Time Mr. Wolf.”

Along with great coffee from local roaster Altura Coffee, grumbling tummies are well catered for with a designated children’s menu offering some great snack options. Forget nuggets and chips or anything deep fried, this menu boasts childhood classics like fairy bread and toy soldiers with scrambled egg. Mums and dads will be pretty impressed with the seasonal menu also, from the all day breakfast options to Pork and Apple Sliders, there’s ample to choose from and every single dish sounds delicious. The Hot Roast Beef roll is a must – the basting and gravy is next level (trust me!). If you’re a sweet tooth, the selection of cakes, tarts and slices are mouth-wateringly appealing and you’ll be forgiven for letting temptation get the better of you. If you work close by, fancy something on the run or your toddler throws an epic tantrum before you even get a chance to sit down, take-away is available.

If you manage to get down there on a Saturday morning, you can enjoy live music from 11 am – 1 pm. Coffee just got a whole lot more entertaining and if I had to hazard a guess, I’d say the community atmosphere, connection and smiles are what adds to the vibe. Not only is this hidden gem kid-friendly, but we love that it’s also dog and bicycle-friendly too.

It’s hard not to fall in love with High Street Cafe!

White Picket Coffee House, Dulwich /white-picket-coffee-house-dulwich/ /white-picket-coffee-house-dulwich/#respond Fri, 21 Jul 2023 02:26:16 +0000 /?p=117561 We may have just found 91¹û¶³´«Ã½’s most charming, family friendly spot to eat, that caters to both parents and kids. White Picket Coffee House, on the Eastern city fringe, serves up some brilliant kid-friendly menu options in a spacious setting with a choice of indoor tables, enclosed verandah tables, or our favourite, the rear courtyard/ garden setting complete with a sweet little cottage style cubby house! I think the fact that the rear courtyard had every table filled while we were there really shows how much of a winner this place is!

The coffee here is top-notch. Each cup is brewed to perfection using quality beans, leaving you with that rich and satisfying taste we all crave. Plus, their breakfast, brunch, and lunch options are to die for! With initiatives like “Pasta Fridays”, it’s the perfect way to end the week. On top of that, their ready-made meals to collect for dinner or work lunches are a godsend, making busy weekdays a breeze.

Parents, you’ll be thrilled to know that they’ve got your little ones covered too. The kids’ hot chocolates are made to perfection – just the right temperature to keep those tiny taste buds happy. And speaking of happy tummies, the fish and chips were a definite hit, but the real crowd pleaser was the kids French toast! It was devoured within minutes by our little ones, with no crumbs to spare.

You can view the .

With a free parking lot at the back of the building and plenty of on-street parking, you won’t have to worry about finding a spot. It’s all about ease and comfort at White Picket Coffee House. An unexpected surprise worth mentioning too – the café is licensed! Yes, you heard that right. You can treat yourself to a selection of local and imported beer and wine while enjoying your meal.

The staff are an absolute delight, which in my opinion truly enhances the overall experience. Super friendly and professional, they make you feel right at home from the moment you step inside. Their warm hospitality is like catching up with old friends.

So, if you’re on the hunt for a coffee haven that serves up scrumptious meals, caters to kids’ in a quaint corner of the city, White Picket is where it’s at! You can visit this super family friendly venue with or with out the intention of adopting, and simply pay a small entry fee to meet / play with the cats. You will additionally enjoy all of the quirky theming, coffee, snacks and light meals. Our kids loved the cupcakes, the icing was to die for.

Kids are able to give the cats treats and assist the staff feeding the cats. There is plenty of opportunity to hand our a few pats and some much enjoyed attention too. We have to say, these are some very well cared for, happy animals, looked after by the most dedicated and doting staff.

Sassy’s Cat Cafe love hosting whimsical cat events and if you follow along with them on social media. you can keep up to date with every thing from cat yoga to cat meditation. Alma Tavern /alma-tavern/ /alma-tavern/#respond Wed, 13 Apr 2022 06:54:00 +0000 /?p=135216 Famous in the Eastern suburbs, the Alma Tavern has been a staple for years, but did you know this beautifully renovated modern space offers plenty for families including KIDS EAT FREE on Monday! We called in for a family pub meal and checked out their extensive bright and on trend renovation and our bellies (and my wallet) were impressed.

Offering a number of well decorated seating areas surrounding the bar, plus a separate restaurant and enormous beer garden with fireplace and retractable roof, whatever space takes your fancy you really can’t go wrong. For us with under 5s, we chose the beer garden which allows the option of a number of booths (great to try and lock in those runaway toddlers) or seating around the 360 degree fire place (not the temperature we must clarify!). Watch the wood oven pizzas get made in the oven and check out the footy on the massive outdoor TV, on a nice day with the natural light beaming in, this really is a sensational spot for a feed.

The kids menu offers enough options to satisfy all the fussy toddlers out there, and you will find all the usual favourites here (hello nuggets and chips!). Well priced with a $16 kids meal deal serving up a meal, drink and dessert option for the under 12s. They offer the fantastic ‘Kid Eat Free’ deal with any adult meal purchase every Monday, which is music to our ears with the cost of living at the moment. They will be also launching a bottomless brunch option which will include bottomless milkshake and juice options for the kids! Brunch dining has also been added to the menu, with kids waffles to be a sure fire hit we expect.

You won’t find any playgrounds or arcade areas here, but what you will find is a high quality pub that welcomes families with open arms and allows a comfortable space for kids and parent alike to enjoy a high quality meal, and maybe even catch a game of footy on the big screen too. And if you’re looking for a pre or post meal play you’ll find some of our favourite Eastern suburbs playgrounds here

Tower Hotel /tower-hotel/ /tower-hotel/#respond Mon, 09 Aug 2021 02:28:56 +0000 /?p=66697 A family friendly restaurant with a built in kids cinema? Shut up and take my money! The newly renovated Tower Hotel, out on Magill Road at Magill is a majestic old property that has been an icon in the area since around 1840! The renovations have done wonders, with a number of different areas within the precinct catering to pretty much everyone, with a great family area, spacious outdoor area that would be perfect in summer and sports and cocktail bars.

During our visit with the fam, we sat in the lovely family seating room adjacent to the kids cinema. Thats right it has its own cinema, complete with raised bench seating and projector, it was actually hard to get the kids back to the table to eat their food. Speaking of the food, the kids menu has everything you want here at a good price ($10 bucks which includes a small ice cream for dessert), but it would be remiss of us to not mention that the kids hotdog is about half a metre long. Credit to Mr 7 who gave it all he could, but it is good to know that your kids won’t leave here hungry.

For the parents (or in our case, the teens who can ‘no longer eat from the kids menu because they want to be adults….without the paying their way bit’) there is the usual pub fare which they do well, with plenty of variety to keep you coming back to try something new.

It is overall, just a beautiful and relaxing spot. Have a crack in the gaming room if it takes your fancy, but we will definitely be back in the warmer months to have a dinner in the outdoor areas (I mean the kids can sit in the cinema can’t they!) The milkshakes we grabbed weren’t on the menu in case your crew love a milkshake as much as ours, you can just ask and they will sort you out. A well priced, relaxing, spacious and beautifully renovated spot that caters really well for families. Definitely worth checking out!

Kokko – Korean Fried Chicken /kokko-korean-fried-chicken/ /kokko-korean-fried-chicken/#respond Fri, 13 Nov 2020 07:50:44 +0000 /?p=57193 We are going to be honest here and preface this with the fact we are huge lovers of fried chicken. Not really a shock, it is some of the best food going around. It is not a small statement then to say that we were absolutely blown away by the fabulously talented Julie Kim and her incredibly delicious authentic Korean fried chicken. Their website says it all, they limit to 100 serves per day to ensure the best handmade fried chicken at all times. How good is that!

So we know this is outstanding food for adults and perhaps the best fried chicken in town (find us better….honestly we can’t wait to go back), but how did the kids like it? The restaurant is boutique size, just off The Parade at Norwood and they have done a great job in designing a bright and enticing space ideal for families of all ages. With comfortable seating at different levels to cater for young ones right up to teens, it was impossible to not feel happy while waiting for our food.

The menu is simple, because frankly, if you do one thing spectacularly then focus on that. There are a number of flavours of their famous fried chicken to choose from (we got the boneless) and we will admit that the kids went the basic option, until they tried Dad’s Mayo Chicken, then next minute we had them begging Julie to add mayo to theirs. Of course she obliged with a smile! The service and warm welcome really did make the experience like stepping into a home for a family meal. It is well priced too and our party of 3 were fully fed with drinks for well under $50 bucks.

With any kids meal outing, they are always brutally honest if they didn’t like something, so for Mr 6 and often-picky Miss 13 I was very pleased when they spoke so enthusiastically about dinner. Mr 6 actually said it was ‘a really good dinner’, which is high praise from a 6 year old. Translates to 10 out of 10 in my book. Simple, awesome tasting food in a friendly and warm environment, what more can you ask for!
