For South Australian families, it’s also the perfect excuse to swap grey winter skies for tropical Queensland sunshine. From the moment we checked in with the kids, it felt like the little details had been thought through. We stayed in one of the family rooms, complete with a super comfy queen bed for the adults and king single bunk beds that our kids instantly claimed as their own. The bed was honestly one of the comfiest we’ve slept in, and after a big day exploring (or in our case, shopping up a storm at nearby Westfield Marion), everyone was more than happy to climb in for an early night. The kids were delighted to find colouring packs waiting in the room, while the gorgeous Appelles kids toiletries were a lovely touch that made them feel just as special as the grown-ups.

Then there’s the food… and if you know 91¹û¶³´«Ã½, you’ll know the Hurley Group rarely misses when it comes to great hospitality. Whether you’re fuelling up with breakfast before a busy day, grabbing a casual bite after exploring the city or settling in for a relaxed family dinner, there’s something for everyone. Swimming, sailing, stand up paddle boarding, fishing, diving, kayaking…… if you love the water, the ocean and the beach you’ll LOVE this park.

We recently stayed in one of their which are located in an elevated position at the back of the park with sunset views from your deck and close to all the park amenities including the brand new 9 hole mini golf course, playground, games room, kiosk and activities room where you’ll find FREE kids activities during the school holidays. The park also offers other 1 and 2 bedroom cabin options as well as a range of sites for camping and caravanning. It’s also pet friendly – so you can take the fur babies too!

It’s a very popular spot during summer and the school holidays and we loved watching our kids make new friends while cutting laps on the pedal karts! (many, many laps!) Bikes are available to hire (including one with a baby seat) or BYO to explore the Coast Park Path which is a great flat trail for riding, walking, scootering and is very pram friendly. There’s some great playgrounds within walking distance too. The recently upgraded Angas Neill Reserve, Bindarra Reserve are to the north and Bandon Reserve and Kingston Park Coastal Park to the south.

**UPDATED 2026**
Six years after our first stay we’re back at Grand Mirage and Samabe Villas in Nusa Dua, Bali we’re back….and this time I’ve got two kids with me (age 7 and 13) so we really gave the all inclusive experience a run for its money.

We spent 3 nights in each location, and both were fantastic but also very different in terms of family friendly facilities, room types, inclusions and price.

The Grand Mirage Nusa Dua

The Location

Set on the southern part of Bali in the Nusa Dua resort area the Grand Mirage is right on the beach, and if you’ve been to Bali before but always stayed in Seminyak, Kuta or Legian the first thing you should know is that Nusa Dua has white sand, much cleaner, nicer water and the beaches are much quieter. You’ll also find plenty of restaurants, shopping and spas within walking distance.

The Accommodation at Grand Mirage Nusa Dua

There are two parts to the accommodation here, the main resort and the Family Paradise wing. We stayed in a in Family Paradise. The layout of this room is ideal for families of up to 5 with it’s separate “kids room” complete with a set of bunks, trundle bed, day bed/couch, kids ensuite bathroom and TV. They have their own little area away from Mum and Dad, but still in the same room. It was clean, new and nice! The Family Wing has a range of studios and suites right up to a 3 bedroom villa with it’s own pool.

The Facilities at Grand Mirage Nusa Dua

Family friendly facilities is where The Grand Mirage, in particular the Family Paradise Wing absolutely nail it! Multiple swimming pools, water slides, a mini water park, a brand new lazy river, indoor and outdoor playground, rock climbing, trampoline, pool table, ping pong, i-lounge gaming area, bikes and a really well organised kids club with daily planned activities and friendly qualified staff. My kids aged 7 and 13 found something to do for every waking minute of the day. It really is a kids paradise, and while they play you can relax.

Why choose All Inclusive at Grand Mirage Nusa Dua?

All inclusive is an add on, not a requirement but if you’re really after a holiday where you can completely relax and enjoy yourself just as much as the kids it’s really worth it. It’s basically everything you’d normally plan and pay for on a Bali holiday – minus the mental load! One kid hungry at 5pm and the other one looking for second dinner at 9pm? No worries. With All inclusive you’ll get daily buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at your choice of the resort’s 7 restaurants and cafes. A la carte options at places like Grand Café, Ibu Kitchen and Jukung Grill and snacks between meal times to refuel after a busy pool session. Multiple restaurants and dining options mean picky eaters or fussy days don’t derail your day.

You’ll also get all your drinks (Mum and Dad drinks as well) a daily restock of your mini bar, ice cream cones and the kicker for us 24 hour ROOM SERVICE is included. Not having to worry about timing your meals, finding a restaurant or hangry kids is such a holiday bonus.

All inclusive also covers non motorised sports like kayaking, windsurfing or catamaran sailing down at the beach and even a free wildlife show.

Knowing that all of your food, drinks and activities are covered means you don’t spend the whole holiday counting rupiah and avoid the stress of the check out bill.

All inclusive guests each get a bracelet which you show at any of the restaurants, cafes and bars when ordering, and it also unlocks your door. No more carrying around (and no doubt losing) your key! I’ve not seen this before anywhere else, it’s a genius idea.

Add Ons

While non motorised water sports at the beach are included, we chose to pay for a day of action with the resorts fun and friendly water sports team. Banana boating, tubing, jetskiing and even paragliding for the super adventurous. Prices were really reasonable and allowed us to try everything at least once…some of them twice.

The Grand Mirage also has an onsite spa. The located in the main wing offers a wide range of treatments including hand and foot treatments, hair treatments and of course massage. We also tried the Aquamedic Pool. Water heated to 38 degrees with powerful jets to massage your feet, back and shoulders. A new spa experience that left us completely relaxed, recharged. Even the youngest of our family was treated to her own “petite massage” experience just for kids.

The Family Wing also offers a few special kids activities for a small fee. We tried a mermaid class and couldn’t resist the foam party.

Samabe Villas Nusa Dua

If the Grand Mirage is an all inclusive holiday for kids…….Samabe Villas is an all inclusive holiday for parents, especially if you have little kids under 5, or older kids older than about 12. This place is absolute Bali heaven on a clifftop.

The location of Samabe Villas

Perched on the cliffs of Nusa Dua Samabe Villas is spectacular to say the least. The grounds are huge and meticulously maintained. Think infinity pools with a view of the ocean, lying in hammocks, gorgeous lush gardens, cocktails on the beach and stunning dining areas.

One word…WOW! The accommodation at Samabe is nothing short of breath taking. Across the 8 hectares of the property there are 81 suites and villas. We stayed in an Ocean Front Family Suite which is an all out, no holds barred luxury stay. 2 huge bedrooms both with equally as huge ensuites. Separate living area, balcony with outdoor seating and uninterrupted views of the ocean. Spend your day floating in your own private pool, lazing in a hammock or enjoying a meal at the outdoor dining table. So peaceful, so quiet and so private.

The facilities at Samabe Villas

Samabe offers a relaxed but well-equipped family-friendly experience. Families can spend their days between the resorts ocean view infinity swimming pool and the stunning private beach, which is accessed via stairs or an inclinator and is ideal for swimming, sandcastles and non-motorised water activities like kayaking, snorkelling or stand up paddle boarding. The onsite Lumba-Lumba Kids Club is offers supervised daily activities for children aged three and up, including crafts, games, Balinese cultural activities as well as video games, a small playground and ball pit.

Why choose all inclusive at Samabe Villas?

From buffets to BBQs, afternoon tea in your private beach cabana, catamaran picnics and even cave dining, all inclusive dining at Samabe is a highlight. So, which one do you choose?

Both Grand Mirage and Samabe Villas are brilliant options for a Bali family holiday, but they deliver very different experiences. The right choice really depends on the kind of holiday your family is craving and your budget.

Samabe Villas sits high on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, which means popping out for a casual wander to the shops or a quick bargain massage isn’t quite as easy as it is at Grand Mirage. That said, the trade-off is pretty spectacular. The ocean views are breathtaking, and the entire resort feels calm, luxurious and beautifully slow-paced. If you’re travelling with a baby or toddler, or older kids who are content to swim, enjoy the beach, try some water sports or relax in a hammock, Samabe is an absolute dream. However, if your kids are high-energy, constantly on the move and need lots of stimulation, it may feel a little too quiet.

On the flip side, Grand Mirage is a standout for families with kids roughly aged 5 to 12 who love to be busy. If your children thrive on activity, noise, swimming, making new friends and being outdoors from morning to night, this resort is hard to beat. The kid-friendly facilities are impressive, and the location is incredibly convenient. It is right on the beach and also within walking distance to shops, restaurants and those irresistible Bali massages.

In short, Samabe is all about relaxation, space and luxury. Grand Mirage is about fun, energy and non-stop family action.

Neither is better. They are simply perfect for different kinds of families.

Talk about absolute beachfront!  Set right on the beach down at Kingston Park, if you can take your eyes off the view for a moment you will discover a fantastic family focussed holiday park.

With gokart hire, bike hire, a fab fenced playground, an arcade computer games room, miles of walking trails (Esplanade…hello!!!) and holiday programs for kids, you and your fam won’t want to leave.

Camping spots don’t get much more family friendly than Woodhouse Adventure Park! Most of you have probably spent a day there either as a kid or with your own family, sliding down the tube slides, tackling Challenge Hill, playing disc golf or taking on the Labryinth. But have you ever camped there? Make a weekend (or even longer!) of it and book to stay in your tent or caravan near one of the Base Camps. Belair National Park Holiday Park

This one is only 11kms from 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ and it set in the picturesque Belair National Park.

The kids will love the pool, disc golf and playground, with plenty of cabins, eco-tents and camping sites to choose from.
There’s plenty of trails and mountain bikes tracks suited to all ages and levels – the family could spend days exploring, looking for koalas, emus, kangaroos or the odd echidna.

Swimming, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, jet skiing, boating and fishing are all on offer a mere few steps from your cabin door!

Besides the lake activities, the kids will love the playground, pump track, bouncing pillow and the splash park! Accommodation is well and truly sorted here too with a range of cabins and camp sites, plenty with cracking views of the lake to boot.

If you’re hunting for a family holiday park experience that the kids will rave about before you’ve even unpacked the car, ticks every single kid-approved box. Located on the gorgeous Fleurieu Peninsula, our crew instantly found their happy place here. We rolled in, unpacked, and the kids had us exploring the park with them as soon as we could.

The epic water park was an instant obsession, with slides, sprayers and the Discovery branded tipping bucket that guarantees everyone gets soaked. Our modern Deluxe 2 Bedroom Cabin slept six and was just steps from the heated pool, which made “just a quick swim� a very regular occurrence (even in the rain). Then the kids realised there is a second heated pool. Two pools? That’s holiday gold.

The play options here are next level. The main playground is a solid 10/10. Big, modern and designed for all ages, with climbing equipment, loads of space and a full-size flying fox that stayed busy all day. The bouncing pillow was another non-negotiable favourite, and quickly became a central meeting point for many games with new friends.

Just when we thought we’d found everything, we stumbled across a second playground. A little older and a bit tucked away, but home to the sweetest blue cottage cubby house. Total hidden gem. There was also a basketball hoop, perfect to shoot some hoops. Throw in few park laps on a pedal kart and a quick game of cricket with the neighbours, and the kids were happily entertained from morning to night.

Discovery Parks – Goolwa really nails that relaxed holiday vibe. Kids love cruising around on bikes and scooters (helmets on, of course!), and parents love how safe and contained the park feels. There are often food vans on site, so dinner is easy, and if you’re more of a grill master, the well-maintained, covered BBQ facilities are just waiting for you to throw another shrimp (err… sausage) on the barbie. And… there was even a gin tasting during our stay. Consider us impressed!

As evening rolls in, it’s movie night, and it’s always worth checking in with staff about school holiday activities and special events. There’s often something extra fun happening.

Our cabin was spotless, stylish and perfectly set up for families, with two bunks, a queen bed, and all linen and towels supplied (no extra packing required). The powered sites looked just as well cared for, and the entire park was neat, welcoming and easy to relax in.

The Clare Valley is famous for its wine and for good reason. But beyond the cellar doors, this charming region is full of rolling hills, country vibes, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered. And with right in the heart of it all, it’s the perfect base to truly soak up everything this beautiful region has to offer.

And while the adults may be here for the riesling, the kids? They’ll think this adventure is entirely about them from the second you check in. There’s a bouncing pillow (yes, the adults tried it, very funny), plus the biggest pump track we’ve ever seen at a holiday park. Two pools, including a heated one, plus the basketball court, painted on hopscotch, and a big tub of sporting equipment (cricket sets, balls, racquets and more) provide the kids with even more opportunities to be active and outdoors. Everywhere you look, kids are running, jumping, riding and exploring and parents can actually relax a little knowing there’s so much to keep them entertained.

The splash park deserves a paragraph of its own. EPIC is the only word that does it justice. Two waterslides, a giant tipping bucket, a squirting kangaroo and koala, interactive jets and water play galore. If you’ve got aqua-loving kids (like me), this is their version of paradise.

The main camp kitchen is right near the pool and sports area, creating a central hub where families naturally gather. Travellers cook, chat, and share stories while the kids play nearby. There’s also plenty of grassy space for picnics, and if your crew wants a bit more adventure, you can hire e-bikes, pedal bikes or karts to explore the park and even hop on the Riesling Trail, a gorgeous way to see the region without moving the car.

We stayed in a Deluxe 2-Bedroom cabin – sleeps 4, which was perfect for families. Spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed, it had everything you could need: a fully equipped kitchen for cooking meals, all linen and towels supplied (so no hauling your own), an electric blanket on the main bed (hello, cosy nights!), and block-out double blinds for lazy mornings. The cabin was perfectly positioned between the playground and splash park, which meant the kids could dash from one activity to the next. For families or travellers on a budget, there’s also plenty of space for caravans and tents, as well as smaller cabins, making the park accessible and affordable for all kinds of visitors.

Despite the not-so-perfect weather, the kids didn’t care. They still loved every element of the park, from pools to splash park to bouncing pillow. When it rained, the Discovery Kids Activity Booklets from reception kept them happily occupied with puzzles and colouring while we sipped Clare Valley Shiraz and enjoyed wood-oven pizzas from Mr Micks, who parks his mobile pizza setup onsite on Friday evenings. A little rain never felt like a letdown here.

Roonka Adventure Park has a place for everyone. Traditional campers can pitch a tent under the stars, families can enjoy a comfy stay in the two-bedroom Lodge, and big groups can take over the bunkhouse rooms or even the whole site for a weekend of adventure. There are powered and unpowered sites for caravans and motorhomes, glamping bell tents set up and ready to go, and cozy bunkhouse rooms perfect for school groups, sports teams, or extended families. No matter where you stay, you will have access to camp kitchens, BBQs, hot showers, and all the facilities you need, plus the billabong, trails, and outdoor fun right on your doorstep. Adventure, comfort, and nature tick all the boxes.

We stayed in the Lodge, a gorgeous two-bedroom retreat that sleeps six. The master bedroom is calm and spacious, with reverse-cycle air conditioning, modern furnishings, a walk-in robe, and two single beds that can be pushed together. The second bedroom features two bunk beds, perfect for kids or teens. The bathroom is bright and modern, and the fully equipped kitchen makes meal prep a breeze. The open-plan living and dining area is ideal for family dinners or games night, with comfy couches, a flat-screen TV, and large windows that bring the outdoors in.

The Lodge’s expansive deck quickly became our favourite spot, whether we were sipping morning coffee, enjoying evening drinks, or just soaking up the view as the campsite came alive. As night falls, the stillness of the river, the calls of kookaburras, and star-filled skies make it impossible not to unwind.

An obvious highlight, especially in summer, is the water activities. The calm billabong at Roonka is perfect for kids learning to kayak or canoe. We really valued how safe it felt, making it ideal for younger kids and beginners. The gentle waters let them try new skills while feeling completely at ease. Life jackets and all the hire gear are ready to go, so you can focus on the important stuff, like having fun!

Speaking of fun, the riverslide is Fun with a capital F and great for the whole family. You have to try it at least once, no matter your age. Just do it! The double flying fox, zipping from one side of the billabong to the other, is a guaranteed hit. I’ll give you 100 dollars if your kids don’t purposely fall off, haha. And if you want to slow the pace a little, there are kayaks and canoes for hire from the boat shed which you can use to explore the peaceful backwaters of the Murray River. Three weeks later, we are still debating which was the favourite… kayaks, riverslide, or flying fox, and honestly, it is a debate that is not going away anytime soon.

Roonka is not just about getting wet. We spent a good hour at the playground with a picnic lunch, and the kids loved every minute. The Echidna Trail totally surprised us; they were glued to it, spotting birds and plants, and unfortunately no echidnas, which would have absolutely made my year. Next time, fingers crossed!

For a bit of adventure, the bouldering wall is perfect for budding rock climbers and adventurous spirits, while GAGA Ball adds fast-paced, high-energy fun for everyone. Orienteering and the Photo Hunt get the kids exploring the property using basic map-reading skills, spotting markers, and matching photos along the way. Wildlife is everywhere, and it is honestly one of the best bits. We saw so many kangaroos, and the walking trails are easy enough for little legs but still fun for bigger kids and adults. There is heaps of space to wander, explore, or just sit and enjoy the quiet, making it a brilliant mix of challenges, teamwork, and just plain fun.

Sometimes the simplest moments are the best. Watching the kids try something new, listening to the sounds of the river, or just soaking in the calm are memories that stick. Even when it is not summer, there is always something to do, see, or explore. iPads…? What’s an iPad?

If seemingly endless holiday park facilities and entertainment for the kids are top of your holiday park list, then is hands down South Australia’s best ever option for families. It’s kind of epic, and it’s very easy to see why anyone with kids would love staying here. This place is basically a full-blown family entertainment destination on the river, packed with things to do from sunrise to beautiful Riverland sunset. If you’re after a holiday where the kids are constantly on the go and you can keep up with them, this is the one. It books out fast on weekends and school holidays because it’s just that good. Wise advice, it’s never too early to start planning your visit.

The pool is next-level: a huge resort-style pool, heated spa, and even a waterfall you can stand under (one of our kids just lived here). Add in the water park with several waterslides and you’ve got hours of fun before you’ve even considered all of the other things!

Indoors, right next to the pool, you’ll find a fantastic tiny tots quiet play room with soft play equipment and even a big red Wiggles car to ride in which is just thoughtful and perfect for little ones who need a breather from the elements or the action. There’s also an indoor movie room and this park has a sensory room, giving families calm, comfortable spaces to unwind. Fitness important to you? Yep there’s even a gym for those who like to keep their fitness regime on track while away (can’t say we used it, but it looked clean and very modern and we appreciate its existence, honestly!) We chose to keep active by taking the short walk into the town centre.

The fun continues to be served up further across the park, with a tennis court, a cute playground, pedal karts, buggies and tandem bikes for hire. (We’ve really never laughed so hard and surprisingly didn’t mow any one down or end up in the drink riding tandem.) Get the whole crew involved on the massive jumping pillow, it makes for a fun family photo and you actually won’t believe how impressive the huge outdoor cinema set up is. For water lovers, canoe hire lets you explore the Murray at your own pace, paddling at sunrise or sunset is pure Riverland magic. Smaller kids are well placed in the front seat of a double canoe. Lastly, one of our favourite moments? A riverbank BBQ breakfast with the kids running around between bites and trying their luck with a lure and fishing line.

Accommodation-wise, there’s something for every family and every budget. Choose from waterfront villas, family cabins, ensuite sites, shady powered sites and spacious unpowered camping areas. Whether you’re after comfort or a traditional camping experience, everything feels clean, beautifully maintained and thoughtfully laid out. The camp kitchen is excellent too. It’s huge, well-equipped and complete with fridges so cooking and storing food is a breeze, even if you don’t have all of the fancy gear or room to pack it.

Don’t miss the kiosk, where you can grab a coffee, ice creams and a few basic supplies, as well as hire equipment for all your adventures around the park.

Be warned, this is one of those holidays where one night is never enough, you’ll want at least a few days to fit everything in.
