Ugly Swan | Kids Detangling Hair Brush | Review /ugly-swan-scream-free-brushes/ /ugly-swan-scream-free-brushes/#respond Tue, 24 Feb 2026 09:56:00 +0000 /?p=67229 Shop online at (use code “kia” for 20% off at checkout)

have nailed the game changer of all hair brushes and genuinely, I am happy to tell you that the Kids in 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ team LOVE these seemingly magical kids detangling hair brushes. Fun fact, we are yet to meet any one who has tried them, who doesn’t like them. It’s kind of one of those ‘if you know, YOU KNOW’ stories.

We came across Ugly Swan at the Royal 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ Show a few years back and it’s fair to say that we have been dedicated advocates ever since. Mornings in our houses quite genuinely have one less complex layer to them, and heaven forbid if we can not find an Ugly Swan.

If you have kids with birds nest hair (or any hair) who carry on like absolute pork chops about having it brushed, these are a game changer for you. If your kids have sensory issues, these are your new go to brush. Maybe you are a dance Mum – these bad boi’s will whip up a smooth high pony or bun in zero time and they even make it easy for our kids to wait for it……do their own hair! Maybe Mamma, you are simply after a nice quality hair brush for your own hair right for YOU!

Read on if you can relate to any of that……

Ugly Swan hair brushes help to detangle both thick and thin hair with out discomfort, ripping through hair or causing pain and unnecessary hair damage. They are quality products made with a combination of both natural boar bristles and nylon pins. Oh and wet or dry? Great for both.

Speaking of wet hair, check out their range of for quick, easy, frizz free and painless hair drying. These microfibre hair towels can hold seven times their weight in water and dry five times faster than a regular towel. If after swimming lesson hair drying is a pain in your bathers – you need a couple of these, they’re excellent. their Wet Scream-FreeĀ® Hair Brush is also a great addition for any swimmers out there, or kids who particularly hate having their wet hair brushed and also great for brushing through conditioner in the shower without breaking your hair. I love this one for myself, which is why we’ve included this brush in our bundle.

Ugly Swan have Scream Free detangling brushes that are suitable for short and long hair – these are not just for girls, you will absolutely find a brush for every one in the family, and the great thing? This is a 100% South Australian business. I’ll click to that.

Choose from a range of trendy colours and designs. We chose our favourite Ugly Swan products for a special KiA bundle for excellent value, and suggest replacing them every twelve months depending how much use they get. You will know your brushes are ready to be replaced when the little balls start to disappear from the nylon bristles. One of our less used brushes is two years old and still going strong.
Pro tip, it pays to keep your brushes clean, something we all forget to do at times.

This year we’ve also added the Ugly Swan Hairvenlyā„¢ Knot Nits Detangle & Deter Spray to our special bundle. Perfect for busy families, this spray is a game-changer for families, tackling tough tangles while helping to deter nits, so you can keep little heads feeling fresh and worry-free every day.

If you haven’t picked up what we’re putting down. We are BIG FANS of the Ugly Swan range of hair products for our kids. They have legit saved our before school morning routine and what used to be at least half an hour of tears and tantrums getting two ponytails done, is now a non issue. Our kids from as young as 2 brush their own hair in just a few strokes. A solid 10/10 from us.

Trilby’s Chocolates, South Australia /trilbys-chocolates-south-australia/ /trilbys-chocolates-south-australia/#respond Mon, 23 Feb 2026 03:59:42 +0000 /?p=211904 has quietly (and deliciously) opened its doors at Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale, taking up residence in the old Woodstock cellar door, and honestly, it’s exactly what this region has been missing. Founded by master chocolate maker Max Collett, this is a standalone chocolate destination that just happens to sit in one of the most beautiful pockets of the Fleurieu. It’s an easy, family-friendly stop to tack on after animal feeding onsite or pre or post relaxed lunch on the lawns, but the real star here is the chocolate itself. Until now, there has been no where in the region to enjoy truly exceptional small-batch artisan chocolate in an experience like this.

Max’s skill, knowledge and passion are immediately obvious the moment you step inside. This is true bean to bar chocolate making, with every step of the process carefully crafted on site. The cacao beans are thoughtfully sourced for both flavour and ethics, then transformed into beautifully balanced chocolates that showcase depth, texture and aroma. The scents alone are worth the visit, rich, warm and comforting. Simply pop into the chocolate door (can we call it that?) and you’ll be welcomed with genuinely personal service.

Max loves sharing his process, explaining flavour profiles, techniques and tasting tips in a way that feels relaxed, generous and never rushed. And then there’s the packaging, beautifully custom designed and seriously aesthetic. If aesthetics were a competition, these guys just blew it out of the water.

Set against a gorgeous McLaren Vale backdrop, Trilby’s Chocolates feel special without being intimidating. I guarantee you it is a place you’ll want to bring visiting friends, grandparents, kids (yes, they’re very welcome) and out-of-towners who want a true South Australian food experience. You can also , which is dangerous knowledge once you’ve tasted what’s on offer. Do yourself a favour and give them a follow on socials too. This is a high-quality, proudly South Australian product made with intention and an experience that’s only just beginning. Now, with Easter and Mother’s Day around the corner you are well and truly sorted… you’re welcome

What a fabulous unique celebration of small things, done well. Very well.

School Sports Vouchers /school-sports-vouchers/ /school-sports-vouchers/#respond Sat, 31 Jan 2026 03:31:17 +0000 /?p=139056 The South Australian Government School Sports Voucher program was expanded again in 2026 to include 2 x $100 vouchers per child, per calendar year to cover the costs for sport, active recreation and music fees.

The vouchers are available to children living in South Australia in Reception to Year 9.

The good news is that in 2027 the age will increase to 18 so that children aged 5-18 will be able to access 2 x $100 for extra curricular activities.

The aim is to increase the number of children participating in physical activity by helping to reduce cost as a barrier and it’s a fantastic initiative to get kids into a range of activities. There is bound to be an activity to suit your little dancer, soccer star or musician!

Here’s the important info:

  • Voucher Value: Each eligible child can receive two $100 vouchers per calendar year, totaling $200.
  • Eligibility: Children residing in South Australia, from Reception to Year 9 (typically aged 5 to 15 years), are eligible for the program.
  • Expanded Coverage: Starting 1 January 2026, the vouchers can be used for a broader range of activities, including:
    • Sports
    • Dance
    • Swimming lessons
    • Scouts and Guides
    • Music lessons
    • Active recreation activities
  • Usage Flexibility: Families have the option to:
    • Apply both vouchers to a single provider for a $200 discount.
    • Split the vouchers between two different providers, each offering a $100 discount.
  • Redemption Process: Typically, providers apply the voucher discount at the time of registration. However, some may require full payment upfront, with the discount reimbursed once the provider receives funds from the program.

Program Impact

The program has seen substantial growth

  • In 2023, 88,749 vouchers were claimed, saving families nearly $9 million.
  • In 2024, the inclusion of Scouts and Guides led to 96,212 vouchers claimed, totaling over $9.5 million in savings.
  • In 2025, over 196,000 vouchers were claimed.

If you haven’t claimed your Sports Vouchers yet what are you waiting for?! Visit the to find a provider and apply for your vouchers.

Sleep like anything BUT a baby on an Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress /origin-hybrid-plus-mattress-review/ /origin-hybrid-plus-mattress-review/#respond Thu, 01 Jan 2026 10:36:00 +0000 /?p=93703 All she wanted for her birthday was a ā€˜big girls bed’

Because we are so happy with her big sister’s Origin Mattress, we went straight for that again and this time chose the newest model the . Honestly, it’s a dream. 29cm high and made from multiple premium layers that combine plush comfort with solid ergonomic support working together to create the comfiest sleep ever.

The removable and washable pillowtop cover is made from silky-soft TENCELā„¢ fabric, which feels amazing to lie on. It’s breathable, hypoallergenic, machine-washable, and dust-mite resistant. As a parent of kids with eczema, I know the nightly struggle of keeping them cool and comfortable. Origin’s breathable, hypoallergenic materials make a big difference, helping reduce irritation so they can sleep (and I can too!)

One of the standout features is the dual-firmness comfort layer. You can flip the mattress to choose between Medium-Firm or Firm, making it easy to adjust as your child grows.

Then we get into the dream team of mattress components.
The natural wool and plush AirSoftā„¢ fibres to keep her temperature just right all year round.
Graphite foam draws away heat so she doesn’t wake up sweaty.
The HexaGridā„¢ Ortho Layer adds support exactly where she needs it, especially for growing backs and joints.
Then add precision pocket springs that flex and move with her body while keeping the bed nice and stable. No bouncing around when she wiggles or rolls over or when we need to sneak out after the 80th bedtime story finally results in sleep!

Add all of these things together and she getting her best night’s sleep, and so are we!

To complete her new big girl setup, we paired the mattress with the Origin Upholstered Bed Frame. It looks beautiful in her room, and the soft, padded headboard is perfect for reading or bedtime chats. The slatted base is strong and supportive.

The mattress and bed frame arrived quickly, straight to our front door and we put it together in no time. Literally a few minutes, no tools needed! It’s sturdy, stylish and built to last.

Once the bed was made the mattress was easy to unbox, unroll and took around 30 hours to fully decompress and be ready to sleep on.

That first night, she climbed into her new bed and stretched from one side to the other with the biggest grin. “This bed feels like sleeping on a cloud!”

Now, every night, she hops into her big girls bed and sleeps like anything but a baby!

We love FREE SHIPPING
We also love the FIFTEEN YEAR WARRANTY
And we really love the 120 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (If you try it and don’t like it they’ll come and pick it up and donate it to the Australian Salvation Army)

The Origin Hybrid Mattress and Upholstered Bed Frame is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size)

Inchargebox Review /inchargebox-review/ /inchargebox-review/#respond Tue, 23 Dec 2025 07:44:03 +0000 /?p=126508 Honestly, what family doesn’t need help with their digital wellbeing? Enter We have had our eyes on this product for a while and in the lead up to the summer holidays, we jumped at the opportunity to give a couple of different sized Inchargebox’s a go.

What is it exactly? Well it’s a great quality, powered coated, lockable, steel tech storage box. It’s stylish and it obviously has has capability to charge up to ten devices at any one time (depending on the size etc that you select). It comes in some beautiful colours, or simply opt for unicorn white. (Scroll down for photos.)

Now we get it, all families will have different rules and boundaries when it comes to tech use and screen time limits, and if you are any thing like us, some times our own rules are not consistently enforced. Especially in school holidays. Gaahhhh, that’s fine, we are not here to tell you how to parent, or to preach. Do what works for you. One thing we do manage to pull off in our family is no devices in the bedroom overnight, and this godsend of a box is helping support that expectation by providing a clearly defined place where the devices should be after dinner. We haven’t needed to lock the box, however it’s great to know that it’s an option.

We are loving the centralised charging point for every one / every thing. Tech clutter be gone. I don’t know about you, but kids seem to move chargers around like nobody’s business here and that’s been completely eliminated too. If your device needs charging, it goes in the box, end of story. So yeah, the reduction in benchtop clutter is sparking massive joy.

So what can you put in you ask? Well you can charge any thing that plugs in to a USB style port. We have been putting the phones, iPads, my apple watch, charging headphones and even the tv remote (not that it needs charging). People also use it for gaming controllers or consoles.

A few last things….. Inchargebox is designed and created in Melbourne – love an Aussie brand. It’s compatible with all electronic devices, Australian standard tested and certified and the charging is FAST – Qualcom, with the latest updated USB ports.

Thanks Inchargebox for the opportunity to road test this system. It’s a solid five star review from us, and just in the nick of time with summer school holidays on our doorstep. We also feel like this would be brilliant to implement at the start of the new school year. New year, new habits and all that. Maybe your kids even got new devices or a phone for Christmas. I can assure you – this box is going to be helpful for setting tech boundaries that work.

Check out all of the info and purchase online

Give the gift of experience and make some memories /adelaide-experience-gifts/ /adelaide-experience-gifts/#respond Tue, 25 Nov 2025 23:56:00 +0000 https://kidsinadelaide.wpengine.com/?p=14736 I remember a few years ago, once the kids were sound asleep, I sat down with a wine in hand & put a Christmas movie on to wrap their Christmas presents. When I saw the sheer amount of gifts I had bought for them over the year (to ā€œput away for Christmasā€) I was disgusted with myself. base bikes Review /base-bikes-review/ /base-bikes-review/#respond Wed, 19 Nov 2025 07:05:29 +0000 /?p=152813 Choosing a bike for your kids can be tough. With so many options and so many price points, plus throw in balance bikes and training wheels and sizing and it can all feel a tad overwhelming. The KiA family have kids of all ages and we were so lucky to try out some of the base bike range, an 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ based family business offering a range of bikes catering for bike riders aged 2 to 8 years old.

base bikes 16 inch model

The 16 inch base bike is primed for kids moving off a balance bike and into their pedal bike era. Our just turned 4 year old had become a bit of a whiz on his balance bike, so we decided to try moving him straight from a balance to a pedal bike with no training wheels. There is no right or wrong option here and every kid is different (and we might even end up trying training wheels if needed)

The base bike 16 inch option comes in two colours currently, a green and an orange, and the first thing you will notice is how light it is. Low to the ground and seemingly longer than the usual bikes we have had for this age group. And geez doesn’t it just look good! We liked how there was no foot brake, which forces kids to get used to the hand brake option, which on these bikes is perfectly sized for tiny hands.

Our little tester got the hang of the hand brakes super fast which was absolutely fantastic to see. The pedals can also be easily taken off if you want to transition it as a balance bike (we did this for a while to allow him to get used to the brakes first and to get used to the new bike size)

base bikes 20 inch model

Perfect for kids aged 5.5 to 8 years who are ready to take their bike riding to the next level is the 20′ base bike.

It’s ultra light weight (it’s only 8.5kgs) makes this bike is super easy to handle and smooth to ride, meaning less fatigue and more time out riding! High-quality front and rear Tektro V-brakes the 7-speed Shimano gears are built for small hands – this bike is a great next step for kids who are ready to take their bike riding to the next level. Miss 6 here is loving learning how to use the gears, it’s a big kids bike for kids who aren’t quite big kids yet.

Once again this next size up will grow with your child with fully adjustable seat and handlebars and this size is available in light blue and tangerine.

Another thing we loved was the ease of set up. 10 minutes is all it takes to get riding straight out of the box, and no pesky fiddling with the brakes installation like on other bike brands we have fought with over the years. This one is ready to go in no time.

91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ owned and operated, fabulous quality and with loads of features designed just for kids, base bikes are an absolute 10/10 winner for us!

There’s lots of helpful information on the base bikes website to help you choose the best bike for your child. To find out more and shop online (with super speedy delivery) visit

We received two base bikes free of charge for the purposes of this review however as for all reviews from Kids in 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ the above is honest and in our own words
