Grunthal Brew is the perfect venue that has it all, and the kids are not going to want to leave. So text the friends you don’t see often enough, book the birthday lunch for your self and get up to Grunthal.

Missing the yellow cow from the main street of Hahndorf? You’ll find it here, with the cute little Udder Delights Cheese Cellar tucked into this venue, where you can also enjoy great food, craft beer, wine, gin flights and a fun kids menu that can all be enjoyed in this super high quality. family-friendly space. Think umbrellas outdoors, a creek, expansive lawn, a cubby, a slack line for the kids to balance on and just room to explore.

When its cool, there is a delightful fireplace doing a great job of keeping the space warm and cosy, surrounded by couches. The main dining area, ā€˜The Great Hall’, includes tables, booths, bar tables, and also offers the ā€˜Grünthal Greenhouse’ for private functions. When it’s sunny out, there are shady trees and umbrellas for days!

The at Grünthal is definitely a big step up from standard brewery fare! There are a great range of small plates, pizzas, and specials on offer. Udder Delights cheeses are well represented, with a delicious cheese fondue, a ā€˜Too Cheesy’ deep dish pizza, and even the humble toastie is made with Truffle Cheddar. The pizza is next level. The real star of the menu for the kids was the dessert (of course) – an extra special sundae topped with Persian fairy floss.

They haven’t forgotten to cater for dietary options including vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free and vegan either!

For the grown ups, there is an extensive drinks menu including tea, coffee and iced drinks, wines, three varieties of Grünthal Gin, cocktails and mocktails, and of course the extensive and delicious Grünthal beer range, including eBeer – with a new brewing technology that you’ll love hearing about.

Grünthal makes it super easy to cater for groups with a ā€œFeed my Groupā€, ā€œFeed my Partyā€ and ā€œFeed my Childā€ selection of items from the main menu.

The kids loved exploring the fantastic lawns on the bank of the Onkaparinga River. There is seating and shade on the raised terrace, and the lawns are accessible by both a ramp and stairs. We can’t think of a better place to lay down a picnic rug and enjoy a sunny afternoon watching the kids play while we had an uninterrupted adult catch up and all of the tasty things!

Before you depart, be sure to choose some gin, beer or wine to take home, and of course some of the many cheeses and trimmings on offer.

The indoor dining area is accessible with plenty of space to manoeuvre around tables and park prams. The female toilets allow enough room to leave a pram outside the cubicle door if required, and the accessible toilet is very roomy and has a full size change table, nappy disposal unit, and grab rails.

Ingenuity Baby Base seats are available to seat your little ones at the table – just another extra touch that makes this family day out so much easier.

Book it in, every one will be happy here!

Pikes Beer Company, Clare Valley /pikes-beer-company-clare-valley/ /pikes-beer-company-clare-valley/#respond Sun, 30 Nov 2025 07:00:51 +0000 /?p=204622 Sure, the Clare Valley has a bit of a reputation for world-class wine (okay… it’s basically the whole personality). But who said this gorgeous region can’t also pour a cracking craft beer? proves there is more to the Clare than just wine, with a relaxed and family friendly brewery that feels completely at home among the vines.

Once we settled into the beer garden, it was easy to see why this place is such a winner for families. There’s plenty of open grassy space for the kids to run around, a few lawn games to keep them busy, highchairs available, plenty of seating for large groups, and a cute little fishpond. Meanwhile, the adults can kick back with a tasting paddle or a pint, soaking up the sun and enjoying a rare moment of calm while the kids entertain themselves.

Now, the food. Honestly, it was a bit of a revelation for a brewery. The fried chicken tenders disappeared so fast we barely remember seeing them hit the table, and the popcorn cauliflower was next-level good; crispy, full of flavour and that chilli, coriander and bang bang sauce was the kind you keep dipping into long after you’re ā€œdone.ā€ The PBC burger is apparently a local legend, and we get it… it’s juicy, messy, and exactly what a burger should be. The grilled American reuben sandwich hit all the right notes, pastrami, sauerkraut, pickles, swiss cheese, it’s basically a hug in sandwich form. The kids weren’t left out either. Our eight-year-old demolished the crumbed snapper like the food critic he is, and our six-year-old’s hotdog with chips (one of four solid kids options at $16 each) was so huge we genuinely didn’t think she’d get through it… but she proved us wrong.

Beer-wise, Pikes has something for everyone. We went for a tasting paddle so we could try a few of their beers, then Dad settled in with a pint of the IPA while Mum enjoyed a refreshing hard lemonade. There’s also a small wine list and non-alcoholic options, and the kids were happily with their fruit boxes.

The Tap Room itself is on the smaller side, with just a few tables inside, but it’s worth popping in, especially if the weather isn’t playing nice. You can sit and watch the brewers at work while enjoying your drink, which is a little bit of behind-the-scenes magic. There’s heaps of car parking too, which is a lifesaver because this place can get busy, and the venue is dog friendly, so your furry friends can come along for the fun.

If you’re heading to the Clare Valley, make sure Pikes Beer Company earns a spot on your itinerary. It’s one of those easy, genuinely enjoyable family stops where everyone finds something they like. Just make sure you book ahead. This place fills up fast, and for good reason.

Gawler River Brewing /gawler-river-brewing/ /gawler-river-brewing/#respond Sun, 08 Jun 2025 23:26:21 +0000 /?p=170379 We recently visited Gawler River Brewing and it’s safe to say this one’s gone straight onto our list of favourite family-friendly spots.

Just outside of Angle Vale, it’s close enough to be an easy-ish drive but still far enough to feel like you’ve escaped the suburbs for the afternoon. The vibe is relaxed, welcoming, and clearly loved by locals – despite the winter chill, the place was packed, which says a lot about how good it is. What really sets it apart for families is the enormous grassy area where you’ll often find a dozen or more kids kicking the footy, running around and making the most of the wide open space. There’s also a beautifully landscaped garden with little paths and a creek to explore, which our kids loved. It’s a space where they can play nearby while parents enjoy a drink and keep a close eye on things – we’ll cheers to that!

Even on a cold winter afternoon, it was comfortable thanks to the open fire and outdoor heaters scattered around the long tables on the patio. There’s also a lovely decked area with tables and umbrellas overlooking a little waterhole, perfect for a chilled arvo catch-up. GRB is also a great option for functions and events, easily hosting large groups at any given time. We even spotted a heart-shaped arch, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this place doubles as a wedding or engagement venue. You can really tell how much thought and love has gone into the setup – it’s warm, welcoming, and beautifully done.

Food-wise, the kids’ menu is super simple with nuggets and chips, but the build-your-own pizzas were a hit across the board. They’re tasty, well-priced, and great for both kids and adults who want something easy but satisfying. They’re also adding a 6-inch pizza just for kids soon, which is a great addition for those who like to have their own (and not share yours!). If you’re after something lighter or perfect for sharing, the grazing board is a great choice. It comes with a selection of dips, crackers, cheeses, antipasto items, and fresh fruit, ideal if you’re just in the mood to pick. There are also smaller snack-style dishes like bowls of chips, wedges, and arancini balls. On Friday nights, you’ll often find rotating specials including mini cob loaves, kransky rolls, baked potatoes, and loaded hotdogs, so there’s always something new to try.

If you’re into craft beer, you’re in for a treat with a great range on tap. While they don’t offer tasting paddles, the team is more than happy to let you try a beer or two before you commit to a pint. Worth noting too, the beer is some of the most affordable we’ve come across, with all pints just $11. There’s also a great value stamp card available. Pay $90 upfront for 10 beers and you’ll go into a monthly prize draw, which is a fun little bonus for regulars. If beer’s not your thing, there’s still plenty to enjoy. They offer a heap of seltzer flavours, made by adding Billson’s flavouring to an alcoholic soda base. You’ll find options like creaming soda, fruit tingle, grape bubblegum, passionfruit and more, alongside a solid selection of wines and spirits too. For the designated drivers or anyone skipping the booze, there’s coffee, milkshakes, and the usual suspects like soft drinks and juice.

Parents will be happy to know there’s loads of room for prams, high chairs on hand, a baby change table, and it’s super dog friendly so yep, the whole family is welcome (fur babies included). Our kids genuinely love coming here. Maybe it’s the freedom to explore, the fun of making new little mates, or maybe it’s the cookie bribes we shamelessly dish out before heading home (no judgment). Whatever the magic combo is, it works. Gawler River Brewing nails that rare mix of quality craft beer and a laid-back, family-friendly vibe where both kids and grown-ups can actually enjoy themselves.

Safe to say – we’ll be back. Probably more than once.

Jump Ship Brewing, Port Lincoln /jump-ship-brewing-port-lincoln/ /jump-ship-brewing-port-lincoln/#respond Thu, 26 Dec 2024 00:34:39 +0000 /?p=156036 When it comes to family outings, finding a spot that ticks all the boxes for both kids and adults can be a challenge. Luckily, in Port Lincoln nails it. Family-owned by Michelle, her husband, and their two boys, this incredible brewery and restaurant has transformed an old, deserted tile shop into a family (and dog) friendly setting that makes a comfortable hangout for all ages. It’s got the craft beer, the food, and most importantly, the vibe.

Craft beer lovers, prepare to be impressed. Jump Ship Brewing’s selection includes something for everyone. From a velvety milk stout to a hazy IPA (my personal fave), they’ve even managed to make a pale ale we actually enjoy – the Wanna Pale at 4.5% is fab! For those taking it easy, there’s a session ale and a heap of zero-alcohol options, like the fun and fizzy Mischief Brews Sodas, as well as good ol’ Bickford’s and juice boxes for the kids. Non-beer drinkers, don’t fret: their SA spirits range is equally impressive, featuring local gems like Coffin Bay Spirits, EP & West Coast Distilling Co. gins, plus a wine list that’ll make any vino lover smile. Basically, they’ve got everyone covered and for that, we say CHEERS!

Let’s talk about the food because, wow, this menu is next level. When it comes to brewery eats, we love something light and shareable, and Jump Ship’s tapas-style offerings deliver in spades. Worth noting too, it’s completely gluten free. Highlights include:

  • Pita Bread with Daily Dips: The presentation alone is enough to make you hesitate before digging in, but don’t hold back! Hummus + olive oil, beetroot, roasted beets + feta, and basil pesto with that scrumptious toast – it’s sensational.
  • Fried JalapeƱo Bites: As a sucker for spice, these were a must-try and definitely delivered.
  • Squid Tacos: Generously portioned with three per serve, these were a hit.
  • Prawn and Chorizo Flatbread: A tasty and satisfying combo.
  • Torn Kebab: Lovely flavours, worth a try!
  • Nachos: We chose beef and weren’t disappointed.

For the kids, the menu’s got options that’ll please even the pickiest eaters. Think Nachos (choose chicken, beef, jackfruit, or plain cheese), Crumbed Chicken and Chips, Calamari and Chips, or Tacos. Plus, they can colour on the back of the menu or write letters to Santa (if you’re visiting around Christmas time, like we did!). Bonus points to Jump Ship for actually having sharp pencils, a rare but much-appreciated touch.

The kids’ area at Jump Ship Brewing is a total winner! It’s thoughtfully designed with soft play, building blocks, the cutest little tea set, and a kids’ table and chairs. Located in a corner, the space keeps the little ones entertained and out of the way, but still within sight – just how we parents like it. As for the rest of the brewery, the airy, bright space is beautifully decorated with plenty of tables, wine barrels, and room to move, so you’ll never feel cramped. There’s plenty of highchairs and heaps of room for prams, plus the uni-sex bathrooms have baby change facilities. For the adults, there’s a dartboard and a pool table, perfect for a bit of friendly competition while catching up with friends or family.

Although Port Lincoln is a looooong way from home for us (it’s actually only a 50 minute flight from 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½), we’ll definitely be jumping ship again for this gem. We know you’ll love it too, so keep it on your radar when visiting the Eyre Peninsula.

Shapeshifter Brewing Co. /shapeshifter-brewing-co/ /shapeshifter-brewing-co/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2023 11:36:23 +0000 /?p=118099 We love a family friendly craft brewery and in 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½’s west, just off of Grange Road, is an absolute gem. Offering up to twelve (rotating) tasty brews on tap in a funky, partially industrial, modern, arty taproom, they’ve honestly got every one in the family covered from the kids to the dog.

Shapeshifter Brewing have only been in the Findon digs for a little under two years, however it’s possible you have seen their beers around prior this time when they were brewing out of Big Shed.

We absolutely encourage you to grab some family friends and park up here for a couple of hours. Leave the devices and distractions of home behind and dig into some quality time with a card game, board game or sit at at nearby table and let the kids play in the cutest new addition, a cubby house and corner with chalkboards and toys. (Best paired with a beer paddle).

Our visit made for such an easy catch up, no one was left with a messy house, no one had to shop or cater and the kids were happy as Larry playing retro arcade games, pinball, Jenga, Uno and obviously bombing around the cubby house.

The non beer lovers (who even are you?) there is a great range of SA wines and gins as well as a coffee machine, so you haven’t been forgotten about. AT the time of our visit I was mid way through Dry July – and was stoked when Ryan suggested a zero alcohol crafty! While it wasn’t on tap, it was South Australian and delicious.

Give Shapeshifter Brewing Co. a follow on or to keep up to date with rotating taps, food vans and acoustic music (on Sundays).

A few last things before we leave you to share this with your mates and all immediately book tables ha ha……

Your well behaved dogs are welcome here. They can even get a free treat from the bar and there’s a fancy water bowl dispenser for them (dogs thirst matters).

Highchairs are available for the little people who haven’t yet built their own core stability, and clean change facilities are also provided for these same bubbas.

Keep local businesses like this in mind this Fathers Day, there is a huge range of cool merch like beanies, socks and hoodies for sale here. They also offer a really reasonable flat rate delivery fee for online beer orders.

Hats off Shapeshifter, this ticks a lot more family friendly boxes than most breweries, and we see a few!

Hedonbar Brewing Company, Kadina /hedonbar-brewing-company-kadina/ /hedonbar-brewing-company-kadina/#respond Tue, 27 Jun 2023 01:55:52 +0000 /?p=116833 Two of our favourite things…The stunning Yorke Peninsula and a craft brewery that welcome families. Enter one of the newest venues on the scene, Hedonbar Brewing Company!

Now, we first noticed this talented husband and wife duo brewing up a little storm in 2022, popping up at local events across the Copper Coast. What you might not know is that they have very recently opened a huge new venue for their brewery / taproom and it is conveniently located at the Copper Coast Tourism Centre ‘s ‘Farm Shed’ in Kadina (a nudge over an hour and a half from 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½).

Open Friday’s 2pm – 7.30pm and Saturday + Sunday’s 12pm – 6.30pm. Our favourite family pick is Sunday’s for the live music each week. It’s worth noting that hours might vary during peak times or across public holidays, so now is a great time to jump over and follow them on to keep up to date with special events or altered trading.

The venue is industrial, relaxed and spacious with a choice to sit indoors or park up at an outdoor table in fine weather. Either way there is plenty of room to maneuver a pram, and if the kids have energy to burn, there is a large lawn adjacent the tap room, along with further family activities right next door at the Tourism Centre. mini golf or train ride any one?

You can settle in for a beer paddle with up to ten taps pouring at any one time, offering rotating seasonal ales, lagers and even special limited release beers. We loved the Wheat Middy (great if you are the driver) and the roasty-ness of the Stout, which was absolute perfection for our cool weather visit.

Not a beer drinker but being dragged along by a passionate craft beer enthusiast? Hedonbar Brewing have a small range of South Australian artisan gins, wines from Barossa Valley and of course some non-alcoholic options too.

So, you have quenched your thirst somewhat and now the responsible thing to do would be to put some nosh in your belly right? Honestly, your tastebuds will explode with the quality line up of excellent food vans these guys bring in each weekend. We ate from MFP Fire Foods on our visit and the flavours were unbelievable and such a great match with our beers.

Definitely one to put on your next Yorkes itinerary, call in and have a chat with Rayma and Troy!

The Suburban Brew /the-suburban-brew/ /the-suburban-brew/#respond Wed, 15 Feb 2023 10:45:19 +0000 /?p=105118 Day drinking becomes a difficult task when you have children, trust me. I know because I like beer, a lot. But I also like our kids, a lot. In fact, if I had to choose, I’d definitely pick our kids over beer. But, it shouldn’t have to be an either-or situation because the undeniable truth is, people like to conregate over drinks and guess what? Parents are people too.

Lo and behold, The Suburban Brew – a brewery catering to the needs of families, thank god!

Established as a business in 2017, the Glynde Brewery & Taproom is their newest venue to hit the craft beer revolution. Opening in December 2022, following the success of their first taproom in Goodwood, the family-friendly vibe is evident the moment you walk through the doors of this light-filled industrial warehouse. What sets this brewery apart is the dedicated Kids Zone. You’ll find plenty of toys and attractions to entertain the little ones including a chalkboard, an arcade style game, a wooden play kitchen and more. To top things off, we even heard there’s a cubby house coming, a wonderful addition for sure.

While the kids are occupied (boom – you’re a good parent), check out the beer that’s been brewed mere metres away from where you sit. Head to the bar where the over 18 crowd can choose from over 10 taps. My suggestion? Grab a tasting paddle. We love that there’s an alcohol-free beer for designated drivers or non-drinkers, plus the option of cider, wine and spirits for those who simply don’t like beer (yes, these people do exist). If you get a chance, try the Blue Skies, Green Grass; an East Coast IPA – it’s a personal fave!

Owner and brewer, Tony (a parent himself) has created a space where people come together. A space where it’s OK for your kid to act like a kid and not have to walk around on pins and needles. A laidback atmosphere where beer enthusiasts can happily sip a session ale (responsibly of course) with the kiddos and/or fur babies in tow. There is ample space to move about with picnic tables both indoors and outdoors for families to gather over a board game. Kids of all ages (including adults) can play corn hole right outside. Add to that, a pool table and a pinball machine – c’mon, could this place be more cool?

But wait, it gets better. The Suburban Brew run their own “Sunday Fundays” once a month. We were there on a recent Sunday Funday and were blown away by the amount of kids of all ages enjoying a choc top from the pop-up ice-cream van and… drumroll please… free face painting. If you’re looking for an afternoon well spent with some of your favourite tiny people, be sure to check their socials to find out exactly when their next one is! Speaking of events, there’s also trivia nights, pool comps, brewery tours and live music.

The Suburban Brew doesn’t have a menu or kitchen in-house but they do have a great variety of rotating food trucks to feed the whole crew on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. With a range of 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½’s top food trucks including ‘BBQ at Yours‘, ‘Smokey’s Deli’ and ‘The Hungry Llama’ just to name a few, you can pair good food with good beer. Other little things worth noting if you’re a parent eager to have a local brew in a family friendly environment are; there’s highchairs, room to park prams, a change table, plus nappies and baby wipes for those “oh no” moments.

Going out for a beer doesn’t have to mean finding a babysitter and we’ve got one thing to say to that – Cheers!

Smiling Samoyed Brewery, Myponga /smiling-samoyed-brewery-myponga/ /smiling-samoyed-brewery-myponga/#respond Thu, 22 Sep 2022 02:22:05 +0000 /?p=97278 Do you like beer?
Do you like pizza?
Do you like dogs?
Do you like great views?
Do you like amazing service?

If you answered YES to any of the above, then it is time to take a drive down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Smiling Samoyed Brewery at Myponga. It is situated right on the Myponga Reservoir and it is one of our favourite spots to hang out with the family while enjoying a great meal.

Smiling Samoyed Brewery is open 7 days a week and have their pizza oven firing everyday. So there’s no need to wait until a weekend, head down there anytime for a great meal. You’ll be greeted by the stars of the show – Kent and Hoppy, their two GORGEOUS white samoyed dogs who lap up the attention of all the guests.

There is an outdoor playground, perfect to keep the kids entertained while they wait for their food. It’s a decent sized playground too, definitely not an afterthought. Our kids loved playing “houses” on the playground and our three year old learnt how to slide down the fire pole – so much fun!

If it is too wet or too hot to be outside on the playground, don’t worry – the lovely Smiling Samoyed staff will happily fetch some colouring sheets and pencils to keep the kids entertained.

Onto the menu – as we mentioned, the wood oven is busy firing pizzas everyday with some delicious traditional pizzas available, along with some quirky options (kangaroo pizza, anyone?). The rest of the menus is impressive with smaller snacks such as arancini balls, onion rings and tempura cauliflower through to the DELICIOUS desserts. Our tip? Have the Dark Ale Brownie. YUM. Local produce shines throughout the extensive menu.

The drinks list is also extensive, with beer tasting paddles available to sample the Smiling Samoyed beers, along with local wines, spirits, juices and soft drinks. Seriously, settle in for an afternoon here, relax and try a bit of everything while the kids play. You won’t be disappointed!

Make a real day of it and leave time for a walk around the Myponga Reservoir before or after your visit to Smiling Samoyed Brewery. We can guarantee that you will leave with a full belly and a full heart after seeing the kids pat the dogs and have the BEST time on the playground.

Prancing Pony Brewery /prancing-pony-brewery/ /prancing-pony-brewery/#respond Wed, 13 Jul 2022 12:38:14 +0000 /?p=94034 Its hard to believe that Prancing Pony has only been around for 10 years because in such an incredibly short space of time, they have planted their flag on the local beer landscape so firmly that its hard to remember a time when they weren’t around! When the opportunity came to head up to their flagship brewery and restaurant with the fam to check out where the magic happens, we could not say yes quick enough. Located a stones throw off the Mt Barker turn off up the freeway, the spacious warehouse vibe with all the brewshed kit on display in all its magnificent splendour is right up our alley and Corinna and Frank have succeeded in that rare double….a superb family friendly venue but also a top spot to visit for an adult treat.

Where do we start. Lets kick off with the beer, because of course we are. 17 beers on tap. Count them. 17! To be fair we have probably had a crack at most of them, and are yet to find one we don’t like, which is saying something about their dedication to quality product in not just churning out random flavours for the sake of it. So settle in for a pint of your favourite (Pony Lager for us at the moment or maybe the Sunshine Ale in summer) or grab a paddle with a few of your faves or throw in an obscure flavour you want to try out. Obviously there are plenty of bottled or can packs to take home once you settle on your beer of choice.

So what are the kids doing while you are indulging in brewery heaven? We love so much about this place for the family. In fact our teens have listed it as one of their faves and cannot wait to go back. For us, it is the relaxed vibe, with good live music playing most weekends, with plenty of room to spread out on the large tables and have a crack at the colouring in and puzzles. Sit inside in winter and enjoy the sunshine filled outdoor beer garden when its a tad nicer. Either way you can’t go wrong. But you know we have missed the part the kids love the most….the food!

WIth half a dozen kids options each coming in at $10 bucks, your kids will love this as much as ours we are sure. Big serves and the usual pub options are on offer here, or the older kids can pick from the wider adult’s menu with some of the best pizzas and burgers you will ever wrap your gums around. We are convinced the southern fried chicken burger is filled with pixie dust because it is just absolutely magical and we could not recommend it high enough. Our tiny reviewers gave the hot dog 11 out of 10, plus the chicken nuggets were actual small pieces of chicken….much better than usual nugget quality.

Plenty to explore here too as you stroll around to explore the Brewshed with the kids like we did, with the huge brewery on full display with enormous reaction vessels providing a great opportunity to explain to the kids how things work, plus they look just bloody awesome! Tours are available too so if you are really keen to get behind the scenes, be sure to check those out. We loved the pinball, which was a top windown after a few beers and a big lunch, plus the little kids really got around the spattering of rocking horses located around the brewshed.

Overall, we just love the Pony and will be making it a regular without a shadow of a doubt.

Prancing Pony Brewery

Its hard to believe that Prancing Pony has only been around for 10 years because in such an incredibly short space of time, they have planted their flag on the local beer landscape so firmly that its hard to remember a time when they weren’t around!

Read all about this sensational spot here!

Swell Brewing Co.

Swell Brewing Co. down at McLaren Vale is one of those places you take the kids, where you breathe a huge sigh of relief when you realise that not only is it a sensational venue for all the adulting you need (all the beer barons on the KiA team give their products a huge thumbs up!), but they actually recognise the value in a high quality family friendly venue. The spacious grassed area is just the bees knees on a lazy Spring arvo, with plenty of room and lawn games for the kids to test out.

When you head inside, check out a beer paddle or two while the family tuck into a really well put togther menu. Burgers are top shelf (and we try a lot of burgers!) and even the pickiest of your offspring will enjoy expanding their pallette, with our mob recommending the chicken tenderloins and battered garfish. The kids are also well and truly looked after indoors, with plenty of colouring activities and table games to check out.

Oh if your kids love to pat every dog that comes within a 20m radius of them like ours, they will just adore inhouse pup Mikey Wright (a gorgeous bulldog named after the pro surfer). This is one of the best and gets top marks from us. Have a look at our full feature here for more pics and info, or email them at taphouse@swellbeer.com.au to make a booking.

The Bond Store

Bond Store is a relatively new spot over in Wallaroo on the Copper Coast of Yorkes. It’s a place that honestly, has it all and is pretty unexpected for a regional town. The premises is a huge multi level property, including the main Bond Store restaurant, distillery (downstairs) and microbrewery as well as two accommodation spaces. It’s hard to fully comprehend all that this place has to offer for you and your group on your trip.

The open kitchen and menu blew us away. Plus, open kitchen – nothing to hide – you HAVE to be brilliant. This kitchen has a talented multi cultural team that shines through brilliantly on the menu. The food is nothing short of brilliant, featuring quality, local produce craftfully prepared with a number of dishes cooked on the custom-made parrilla charcoal grill. Get the prawns. You can choose to share a selection of plates – tapas style, or if you wish, you can indulge in it all by yourself. On the ground floor you will find a large space for dining and their brewery bar, with their impressive stainless brewing tanks on display for customers to see. Kids will love seeing it, asking you 100 questions that you probably can’t answer and also watching the busy kitchen staff. So fun. No one is getting bored here, and if they do – the team will be more than happy to whip out some colouring in sheets.

Watsacowie Brewery

What is a cowie…..? Great question and you can find out the answers behind the name of this business + a bit of local knowledge when you visit this epic family friendly BELTER of a craft brewery. Located in Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula about two and a half hours from 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½, you’ll find your self surrounded by the wholesome goodness of many, many Yorke Peninsula activities and attractions that are great with kids and even better washed down with one of these beers.

You will love the casual, funky, relaxed open air feel of this ā€˜beer shed’ (Can we call it a beer shed?) With loads of indoor seating, a cosy fireplace and plenty of outdoor tables too. It feels like a bit of a hub for the community, but also a solid asset to local tourism. There’s no kitchen at this brewery, but check in with the , or social media accounts, as they often have the best of the local food trucks serving up top beer nosh. We fully lucked it with  on our visit and that sure kept the kids happy so as Dad (that’s me) could enjoy his exceptional (and well earned – because gaawd traveling with kids is more of an adventure than a holiday isn’t it…..) beer paddle.

Visit this one on a sunny spring day and its actual heaven on earth. Visit on a wet day and you’ll be delighted to find a fireplace doing a great job of keeping the space warm and cosy, surrounded by couches. The main dining area, ā€˜The Great Hall’, includes tables, booths, bar tables, and also offers the ā€˜Grünthal Greenhouse’ for private functions.

The menu at Grünthal is definitely a step up from standard brewery fare! There are a great range of small plates, pizzas, and specials on offer. Udder Delights cheeses are well represented, with a delicious cheese fondue, a ā€˜Too Cheesy’ deep dish pizza, and even the humble toastie is made with Truffle Cheddar. We enjoyed a pizza, fried chicken and mac and cheese for the little ones, and a delectable cheese board. The real star of the menu for the kids was the dessert (of course) – an extra special sundae topped with Persian fairy floss. For the adults, the beers speak for them selves…….

Forktree Brewing

You can see it now can’t you? Warm Summer evening sun setting over the gorgeous rolling hills of the southern Fleurieu, the kids enjoying the grassed area and playground, while you sit up high on the deck beer in hand. Sounds good doesn’t it. Located down at Carrickalinga, this fabulous family friendly spot has grown rapidly since their opening 3 years ago into a fantastic venue known for top notch hospitality and strong community spirit.

The selection of beers will keep the adults well and truly happy, whilst the kids will have an absolute ball. Whether it be in the sandpit, on the playground or trying out the range of lawn games, the family market will love it here. Shifty Lizard Micro Brewery

Ditch metro 91¹ū¶³“«Ć½ and the big craft brewery crowds with their massive schmancy venues and on fleek Gen Y FOH staff, (who probably wouldn’t know a mash conversion from a ferment tank, let alone how to engage with your kids over lunch, lets be honest) for a genuine grass roots type small batch micro brewery, distillery and taphouse. Shifty are serving up some of the tastiest brews and beer nosh getting around. Enter family lunch at Willunga. You guys know with kids it pays to check ahead that there will be something on the menu to keep them happy (pleased to report there was) and better still that there are some games and colouring and oh you know, a resident lizard to meet. Tick, tick, tick. These guys also have highchairs and baby change table in a very clean bathroom.

Not only was there a simple kids menu of nuggs and juice, the style of their ā€˜beer food’ would generally appeal to kids any way. Think extensive options for gourmet hot dogs, decedent loaded fries every way imaginable, wings, sides and more. Yum – come hungry the portion sizes are pretty epic and the prices are VERY fair. From a family friendly point of view, this place was comfortable and welcoming.

We totally get around their beer paddles, quality gin cocktails (non-beer drinkers sorted) and the food is top notch. Plus you get to just soak in the Willunga vibe, try out the Main Street shops and make day of it.
